  1. I know that the specific HD that had problems was the one that was used in the MacBooks. That alone is enough for me not to use a seagate especially after seeing that their other drives fail as well.

As for maxtor, I've never had a problem with them

    :iam:

But its a Mac... :p lol

We have Dells in our office and out of the 20 high performance XPS's we bought, 15 of them had failed raid configurations within 2 years directly relating to Maxtor.

But everyone has different experiences as well, I've been running 5 Seagate HD's in my computers at home for years, 1 is on my server that is on 24/7 and been that way for 5 years now running strong, the other ones run 24/7 as well, but not as old as the server drives yet.

  2. I thought about buying one until I saw that Seagate makes it, DO NOT BUY A SEAGATE HARD DRIVE!

Seagate made the HD for the MacBooks that all had problems with crashing. I worked at Apple for a short time and everyone I worked with that had a macbook had their drive crash at some random time, mine happened to be 1 year and 4 months. Another girl that worked there had hers go out after 4 months. Luckily for me, I had leopard 2 weeks prior and got everything backed up.

Strange... I've had bad problems with Maxtor, but wonderful experiences with Seagate... And the Seagates are the only ones that have a 5 year warranty as opposed to the 3 years through the other manufactures.

  3. I think its a common problem with LGT's :)

The "fix" that I have found is to put the seat all the way down, front and back, for about a week and then you can put it back however you normally use it and it will stay away for a little while. It always comes back, but it helps to have a break from it sometimes.

  4. Why the hell did I wait until friggin' cold hit to seriously ponder doing this.

I didn't quite have the time to read all the pages, but here are some questions

    -moisture in teh exhaust?

-any gasses at all still being passed into the muffler? I mean, are they still at work or just worthless for the most part

-what's the consensus on the # of washers in relation to teh aw3someness of the sound

Couldn't I just stick a screwdriver in several places under the mufflers :D j/k

I can answer a few of these pretty easily from my opinion and experience.

-Moisture, I havent had any problems with it, no rusting, no problems at all... And I've seen many cars that have had water coming out of the mufflers before, and they dont have haugzaust... No problems thus far.

    - Gasses into the muffler, yes... just depends on how many washers you put on there. If you have 15 like the poster a little bit ago, I kinda doubt the mufflers are even useful at that point, but with 2 or 3 washers, it still passes gas into the muffler and it works out pretty well.

    - 2 or 3 washers for me... I have 2 on right now and people comment on my awesome exhaust all the time. Its not too loud as to be annoying when your rolling down the highway and still loud enough to get a really nice rumble.

  5. Even better - check out: http://www.fit-pc.com/new/

    R.

That looks to be more of a smoothwall PC solution rather than for a carputer. The actual PC itself is way too slow, only 256MB ram sucks, and the fact that it has 2 lan adapters...

That EEe PC or whatever is a perfect solution though and I may someday upgrade to that... But for now i'll have to roll with my M10000. :)

  6. so.. we did it.. my friend and I last weekend sat in my car with a rigged up interface device and we were able to interface the computer directly to the car. We could override the interior light dim, pull info center data (all be it still raw data so far) check air bag on/off status and override the airbag light all from a serial connection to a PC.

We want to draw up some boards for everyone.. I think he may post more detail on this later.. would any of yall be interested in this? We will publish everything you need for free but we want to have a bunch of boards.. maybe 10.. drawn up so that we can cut our costs. All you would really pay for is the cost of producing the board itself..

The basic project is an info center wire harness to serial interface and software that will address the data and then software to pull said data into your roadrunner skin pages.

YES!!! I want! How much are you looking at for the cost? You rock! How soon can we get this? :)

  7. I'm looking to make a new skin for RR cause the standard one has a few things that I dont need/want (TV, Radio, Sat Radio, Rip). What do you think of the look so far? I'm by no means a graphics artist, just playing around for now.

Anyone have suggestions on good clean looking skins for RR that are already made? These are the things I'm looking to really have on there, nothing more for now.

  8. I've been very interested in the data center part of it all... While I hate the thought of loosing the data center with temp and gas milage, etc... I'm also debating on the route of trying to figure out all the data that is sent to the data center and somehow trying to feed it into the carputer... Not exactly sure how yet though. I am a computer programmer though, and I have some friends that might be willing to help, so I hope maybe that will help a bit. lol

The last option is to just move the info center down to the ash tray, but I'd need the relocation bracket which I dont have yet... lol Guess I'll see what I can work out :S erp...

But I've been following the carputer stuff for a while and I have some ideas on how to check things out, just never had the ability/opportunity thus far.

  9. Thats cool... I'm really excited to get a carputer in... I've been wanting to get one for ages now, but just never found a decent deal that I could buy at the time. So this is pretty sweet.

Now I guess its a matter of finding the bezel to modify (kinda wanna keep my stocker just in case). I'm wanting to get GPS, sirius/xm/hd radio, OBDII, etc eventually... But for now getting just the basics is great.

  10. I've looked at the price of the screen alone and it goes for 299, so I'm thinking that this is a great deal... And I might be able to cut some off the price cause it looks like this guy is within driving distance... Hrmm indeed... I'm probably picking it up asap... lol, even though I know I should hold off though cause gas is getting pricy, but hey... A killer deal is a killer deal right?
  11. Quick question... If I can buy this setup:

    Case: Morex 3688

Motherboard: VIA EPIA M1000 Mini ITX Form Factor

    Ram: 512 MB

    Hard Drive: 80 GB

    CD-RW/DVD-ROM: Panasonic Slot Load

Power Supply: MIATX Car Power Supply

Operating System: Windows XP Home with CD

    Monitor: Lilliput 629GL-70NP/C/T

For $350 shipped... Think thats a good deal? I'm pretty sure I'm sold on it already... I havent seen a full setup like that for such a good price... But just making sure that ya'll think its a fair price before I plunge... :)

    Thanks

  12. ^^ Excellent :) I just signed up... Not sure if they'll actually send it out though, it didnt give me a confirmation email or anything, they just said thank you... hrmm... Guess we shall see :)
  13. Not to get in your business and all salvi, just tryin to look out for you... But if your going to sell a lot of parts and such, have you talked with the mods about becoming a vendor on here? Just a thought.

I would actually encourage that for you honestly, the carputer community on here could definately use someone who is closely tied in with carputer things on here, not just on MP3car.com

Other than that, I'm still keeping a close watch on this thread for when I finally do get the funds to build my carputer. It still looks like my best option :)

  14. ARGH! so my part arrives that I've been waiting on since the 9th and its wrong! and they wont take it back or fix it. I'm just SOL.. I give up.. I have 2 Xenarc 700 TSV LCD screens (just the screen and power supply) would anyone be interested in something like that? I'm thinking about throwing them up on ebay or something

How much you want for a screen and the PS? Probably out of my price range, but it doesnt hurt to ask ;) lol

  15. i tried this this on my 2.5i weekend.... sounds pretty good... love the sound of starting the car... cost all but 3 bucks... used 2 washers per hole...couldnt remove gasket though... no matter how much pb blaster i put on it...for all that are unsure about the washer for 2.5i.. it's the same... 3/8in id washers... thanks hogmeat

FYI, wait about a month or so and the gasket will come loose and make a hissing sound like a reed or something. Then they come off really easy. :)
