Quite interesting. Today I got a letter from Subaru explaining chemicals used in the deicer area weaken the windshield and make it more prone to crack. This is exactly where the crack in my windshield originated. Has anyone seen this and had luck getting reimbursed? I didn't take closeup pictures from the outside to prove this. I wonder if I'll have to fight this again and eventually be told they take no responsibility for the damage...

Add me to the new car/cracked windshield club. I'm new to Subaru and new to cracked windshields. I heard something hit the car. Didn't see any damage and thought no big deal. Next morning, huge crack running up from the bottom. I had about 1400 miles and owned the car for 4 weeks at that point. I've been hit by rocks that make noise like that all the time in other cars. Never a cracked windshield. One of my cars did sustain a star in the past, but no crack. No star here though.
