I don’t know what you mean by WD. They make many different versions. Ssd or mechanical? Anything WD blue is low quality. Seagate makes a better mechanical drive but not any SSD’s

It’s not so much to do with the memory chips themselves but the quality of the controller, board and cache. These things run super hot and the boards manufactured for use in SanDisk, PNY and WD are low quality. We all know Samsung EVO’s are the top tier in SSD’s, but other options are just as good but sadly SanDisk, PNY and WD fall short in that order. I have researched this and there are discussions on many forums about quality. I am not going to get into the details of it because you can easily find the information as well. I also base my experience on real life data. I have replaced many SanDisk and PNY drives under warranty that I’m no longer purchasing them. WD are hit or miss. Crucial is better made and as I stated before from use and their warranty SP make good disks that last a long time. Why do they last? Because they are not the fastest out there, but that also means the chips are not overdriven and the heat is less making them last longer. As you know all SSD’s have a finite life span but overheating the chips makes them die prematurely.

Depends on your budget and what you play. The 10th gen 6 core i5 with a 6gb 1660 super is a super good mid level machine. It’ll play everything you throw at it. Specially with a NVMe SSD and at least 16gb of ram. A lot of people swear by AMD and the RYZEN processor but to me it’s the same old AMD that overheats with time and it’s value does not hold up while not being any better performance wise. I just built an all MSi rig and all the hardware is very nice. You can look at partpicker.com to get an idea on prices and what’s available out there. You can also get a used video card for cheaper as everyone wants the latest and greatest. For gaming Nvidia is where is at for the graphics card.

Please don’t use PNY, SanDisk nor WD SSD’s The recommendation was not based on saving a buck, but on the bang for the buck. I have more failed Samsung drives on my desk that I have SP or Crucial drives. On average I swap out 10 drives per week for SSD’s. All the gaming machines I built I only use NVMe’s and regular SATA for all others.

You can plug in your pc to the big screen. I just build them and fix them and see the trends. I actually don’t play any games so WTF do I know! But I do know hardware. Fulton SP makes decent SSD hard drives.

As kids grow older their perception of technology changes. Not for all of them, but I would say probably half. The biggest game changer is the Discord service. It brings game playing to a different interactive level. Hard to do it on the xbox with its limited support and non existent on the PS5. I do think you can fully use it on the Wii though.

You get what you pay for is for sure the right terminology. Not enough cooling for a massive graphics card. Heat is the enemy of all modern consoles. PC’s as well but you can building them to run super cool. Also running games at 144hz makes the games look amazing. Not bashing the consoles, but they are more limited although more affordable.

I did say more versatile. But you can still game for a few years if you bet some decent hardware. And after gaming it can be used for other things. Windows 10 has really matured over the years. It is true that it’s not perfect but you will not get a virus from gaming. You can also set parental controls through a free Microsoft account so that only you can het to the pr0n. Where they excel is at multiple monitors setup and being able to watch tutorials while playing or even streaming your game or recording it for future viewing. If you want to do that with your console you still need a pc for that. As your kid gets older he may it may not want one, but chances are you will get one. I run a service where kids get all their hardware that they can afford and I help them build it so that they learn about PC’s in general. It’s amazing that it runs 50/50 male/female and funny enough the girls usually buy the better hardware with less eye candy. I take pride in building the PC with them and teach them something useful. It’s a rewarding thing to do for me while still getting my paid.

Also a dedicated gaming computer is so much more versatile me thinks. But whatever
