  1. Hey all,

Looking to purchase a 2019 or newer legacy just want to be aware of any known issues/TSB? What should I be looking for at the dealership, any packages to recommend? I am going with the H4 option but want to ensure the car doesn't have any major issues like transmission, engine servicing, electrical problems etc. If there's any vehicles that are super reliable please feel free to advise and ill look into those as well. Currently the owner of an 03 OB Sedan that's dying on me slowly :(

    All answers appreciated!

Look for a 3.6r Edition.. Best Engine in my opinion.. No major issues with the 19' or 20's..

  2. I’m having an issue with my 2015 Legacy where the touch screen for the stereo freezes completely. None of the buttons on the steering wheel work and nothing on the touch screen works. I can’t even adjust the volume or turn the radio off. The only thing that works is shutting the ignition off and restarting the car - something I do not want to do at (for example) highway speed.

I found this old thread: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/head-unit-replacement-250350.html?t=250350

That thread mentions Subaru TSB 15-188-15R, which seems only tangentially applicable when I Google it.

I found a video on YouTube showing how to enter the diagnostic mode on the head unit. The diagnostic mode shows NG for both USB ports, even when my phone is plugged into the USB port and playing through that.

The issue seems to have something to do with having my phone plugged into the USB port when I first start the car. If I plug it in afterwards, I don’t seem to have the issue as much, though it DOES sometimes happen if I connect my phone via Bluetooth instead.

I bought the car used in 2019; it’s my third Legacy. This problem started roughly when I had a new roll connector installed by a mechanic because my horn didn't work and I needed the repair to pass Pennsylvania safety inspection when I moved there from another state. I don’t think it’s related, but given that the roll connector has something to do with the stereo controls on the steering wheel as well, it could be related somehow.

Is there a newer TSB on the head unit? Is this something to do with the NG diagnostic on the USB ports? Is it something to do with the new roll connector?

    Thanks!

I have a 15' as well haven't had the freezing issue but never use rhe USB Ports with my phone. Do you have a newer phone? I know the 15' Infotainment system is definitely out dated to keep up with Newer Cell technology it just could be that issue. Only thing I could think about the steering controls is that your mechanic didn't get the plugs secured when he swapped out the roll connector.. Keep us updated..

  3. I've driven our Legacy 2.5 on I-70 from Green River (UT) across Colorado (both directions) several times without any problems, but I wasn't towing anything, either. If you're really concerned, though, I-40 from California to Texas considerably less challenging. Both are great scenic and cultural drives.
Thank You.. I'm actually going to Morrison Colorado in August for a Car Show and Plan to Travel I-15 from Cali, Nevada, Utah then to I-70.. My co worker said it was kinda rough..

  4. I'm posting this because in my past Google searches I found relatively little information on the subject. So for those of you interested in towing with your Legacy, it can do it. Last year I pulled a loaded U-Haul 4x8 trailer halfway across the country and it was a breeze. Size wise it fit the car well. This year I'm heading back the other direction but couldn't get a 4x8, all they had was a 5x8 within a days drive. It's not ideal as that extra foot in height makes it sit a bit above the car but there was no other choice. It ended up working out as the 5x8 is stuffed and there's no way everything would have fit in the smaller trailer. The car definitely sits a bit more squat though.

I've driven through the Rockies with both trailers and had no issues up or down. The 3.6 does well climbing the mountains and merging onto the freeway with a full load. Plus I'm still averaging over 20 MPG across 1800+ miles. Key safety points are properly loading the trailer and not driving too fast.

Mods on the car include an OEM 20mm rear sway bar, OEM CVT cooler, U-Haul trailer hitch and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires. Aside from the hitch I had everything installed after picking up the car from the dealer and long before I ever considered towing. But I'm glad I have them, particularly the transmission cooler.

Now queue up everyone saying to just rent a U-Haul truck and trailer the car. Also queue up everyone claiming my transmission will be found dead along side the road somewhere. All I'll bother saying about either is if everyone online was as smart as they claim the world's problems would be solved overnight. Often life isn't about doing something in an ideal way with limitless funds on tap. Sometimes you just have to do what needs to be done. So if you need to tow with your Legacy it can be done safely and economically.

Thats Great so you said you traveled across the Rockies.. Di you happen to Drive the I-70 in Colorado? I'm planning a trip from San Diego to Morrison in August and I've heard I-70 is pretty rough in Colorado from the Utah Side..

  5. Well after 6yrs ridin on Airrex setup decided to install Whiteline Rear Lower Control Arms and Moog Toe Links to dial in the perfect alignment.. Was able to lower my Rear pressure to get a better ride as well.. My shop was able to set everything at stock specs. I only run 8.5 Wide Rims I might go 9" Wide but don't want aggressive Camber the way the price of tires are going up like everything else in the world...[emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]20220407_104011.thumb.jpg.31894b9fc61611b186b2215d5184afd0.jpg

  6. Just curious where your from and how much your Subaru Dealership Service Department charges per hour.. I was kinda shocked the other day when I took my GF 22' Crosstrek in for Warranty Service and asked my Service Rep how much per hour they are charging because I need to replace the wiper hose because mouse chewed it and it's not covered under warranty.. He told me there rate is 170.00 Per Hour now...[emoji2962][emoji2962][emoji51][emoji51] I told him I'll replace the line myself.. He knows how I take care of my Legacy he said yeah he would have to charge me that 1hr rate...

  7. Well my horn hasn't worked in over a year but wasn't to worried because I had my air horn. I was pretty sure itvwas my Clock Spring because the horn would work in certain positions then one day just stopped. So the other day I was getting a oil change at the dealer and asked parts if they had a Clock Spring luckily they had one in stock which tells me they have issues with them. Well after the replacement Horn worked as advertised, but I lost my Digital readout from my Damd Steering Wheel and Paddle Shifters.. So today decided to tear into it to find the problem. Wiring was all over the place so removed the zip ties and inspected the wiring and I discovered a Broken Ground Wire..[emoji2962] So repaired the Ground and routed the wiring made it cleaner and now everything works 4.0..[emoji41][emoji41][emoji41] Sorry for the long post..20220226_091805.thumb.jpg.b747c0cc7c17327e0785e1e4bf8b5fcd.jpg

  8. My dad decided to upgrade his horn on his Legacy as he thought it was not loud enough. After he almost hit a car, he understood that the driver didn't hear my dad's horn. Honestly, I think that all the Subaru cars have terrible horns. Sometimes even I don't hear it despite being in the car.
Best ones to buy are the Supertones.. Either Red or Yellows in my opinion..

  9. My wife got a 2018 Premium recently with black seats, but prefers the Sport trim interior (we couldn't find a Sport in the limited time that we had). I figured I could just swap the seat covers, but none of the Subaru parts sites allow me to select a "Sport" trim. Could someone help me find the part number for those seat cushions? Thank you!
If you can find a Sport Model Legacy grab the VIN Number then ask the Parts Department at the Dealership..

  10. I was cleaning my Engine bay and noticed this sensor bolted to the Drivers Wheel Well area under the Brake Resevoir.. Does anyone know what type of Sensor or Filter this is because I noticed about a 1/8 inch of Bare Wire.. All the wires go directly into the main wire harness.. Any help would be appreciated..20220104_152359.thumb.jpg.682c629c7b88999acd46a5855acdaa36.jpg
