  1. There are a bunch of reasons for higher fuel consumption in cold weather:

    -Denser air to push

    -Colder engine to warm up

    -Tire resistance

    -Slippage on icy surfaces

    -Plowing snow

    -Oil thicker (0w20 not much!)

-Grease slower to thin (try riding a bike in -20)

-Fuel blends (eg. more ethanol = less BTU )

As I agree with most of what you said, this Legacy has had the biggest difference in mileage of cold vs warm more so than any other vehicle I've owned, and I've owned quite a few vehicles. I think a lot has to do with the transmission fluid and cvt itself.

  2. Probably has something to do with winter blend gas as well

You know this was my first thoughts as well and their is definitely a difference in MPG on the two different blends of fuel. With that being said, the CVT in these cars does not like cold weather, it could be the middle of winter but if we get a random week where say the weather is above 50 degrees, my mpg jumps right back up to summer levels even though you know the gas is still the winter blend.

  3. 189k

    2016 Premium.

    Bought new, December 30, 2015.

Nice! And I thought I drove a lot, my daily commute is about 50 miles each way. I did save some miles while my Legacy sat at the dealer for 2 months waiting on a new head unit over the summer. Gave me a chance to have a nice extended test drive in a brand new Ascent for a couple thousand miles.

  4. I've had my 2015 since new, I commute from PA to MD for work with it about 90 miles or so a day. I'm currently sitting at 104k miles, I've had one wheel bearing replaced under warranty and had the head unit replaced under extended Subaru warranty for display failure. Other than that, gas, oil changes and tire rotations. They are not exciting cars by any means but the do what there were made to do fairly well. Only real gripe is the fact that the more miles the car gets, the worse the gas mileage seems to get. I used to be able to average 34ish MPG, now 30-31 is about as good as it gets.
  5. A final follow up on the head unit. 2nd dealer confirmed the head unit was bad as soon as they looked at it, so my car sat at the dealer since Memorial day weekend waiting on the new head unit. I didn't mind as they gave me a brand new Ascent as my loaner and it saved about 2700 miles on my car over the last couple of months. So I am still under 100k miles!! They called last evening saying it was done, picked up it and there is a huge difference in the quality of the display. It's all about the quality of dealer!
  6. That's more than fair, since it's way out of warranty. I'd bet that SOA is gearing up to give you a new head unit at no cost or at some ridiculously low cost. Going to another dealer for another opinion isn't a big deal, in the grand scheme of things...

I agree, I have no problem getting a second opinion, but the car isn’t out of warranty. I purchased the 6yr/100k mike gold plus extended warranty when I purchased the car. The first dealer had no problem having me purchase a new head unit to fix the issue, but when I mentioned I have the extended warranty then it became “normal” operation.

  7. It is just total crap that so many people have HU issues on the subbies. Also there is that issue where Sirius categories will not propagate. Was that issue finally fixed.

I couldn't take all the issues anymore and moved on. I feel bad seeing all the same constant failures. People bought the marque expecting a carefree ownership. I have no complaint with my current purchase, not one and the forums aren't loaded with people having issues.

I will give subbie one thing, it was my experience that if you got SOA involved things moved quicker and often got fixed. Dealers on the other hand are willing to give out the working as expected for broken parts.

I see my 97 OB Limited driving around the town. Darn guy wrecked the front of it!! It still has the rust above the wheel well, you know the one and the place that existed on subbies of that vintage. I wonder if he knows that I swapped a 2.2 into that engine bay? :) I wonder if he cares?

It's really a shame, I've put 96,000 miles on this car in 4 years with minimal issues. One wheel bearing, the gas cap cover freezing shut, and now the radio. Just got off the phone with SOA, I have to take it to a second dealer now before they will or won't do anything.

  8. First off, I have already read on this forum and on the internet at large about Subaru oil consumption issue.

That being said, my low oil level light came on today. I went straight to the dealership.

It seems my car burnt 1.4 litres of oil (approx 1.5 quarts), for a span of about 7300km (approx 4500 miles).

Dealer says I must burn more than 1 litre ever 6000KM for repairs to be covered under warranty.

What do you guys think? I will follow up on this forum for fellow users, regardless of the outcome.

    Thanks,

    PS: 2015 2.5i with approx 75 000KM (45 000 miles)

What brand oil are you using? I would get the low oil light at about 3000-3500miles every oil changes using the recommended Mobil 1, I finally switch to Napa, (which is really Valvoline) and haven't had the low oil light come in in the last 55k miles plus.

  9. Hi all. Purchased a 2015 Legacy 2.5i Premium a couple weeks ago. Does anyone have vent shades installed on their Legacy? I tried searching on here as well as google and can't find any yet. I don't really care for the Subaru ones with the chrome on them. I'm looking for the in channel shades which IMO look much better than the stick on frame shades. Thanks.
