Or maybe coat them in something like corrosionX?

Yep, they stiffen up the front pretty good. It feels smoother too.

Has anyone tried the group n front strut mounts that fit our cars? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EKBAFY0/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1OSUZQA1GBPUB&colid=26A1RG5QVOYFM&psc=0

It doesn’t seem lower but maybe it is. They looked fine when I installed them on the struts but I went to fine tune them this morning and thought they didn’t look right. So you think I should pull them off and replace them? If so with what? New OEM, KYB?

They didn’t look like that before install. They looked normal I guess. No bulging. Here is a pic of the old ones...

Do these top hats look normal? Brand new Monroe installed last week with my Konis. I can’t remember if the OEM ones looked like this. Thoughts? They just looking like they’re really bulging to me and I don’t know if that’s normal or not.

Finally prebuilt my front Konis after buying them a year ago. Let hope things go right tomorrow or Sunday and I can be riding on Konis come Monday!

So I happen to have one single extra Koni front strut insert that I must have purchased in my haste to find a pair. If anybody wants one single insert PM. I'll sell it for a decent deal.

Hard for me to believe that the fluid don't need to be change. I'm still new to the whole AWD/CVT thing.
Thanks
Understandable. If you read through this whole thread you will see that many of the problems associated with the CVT have to do with a bad bearing design in the 10-12 model years and was correct for the model years following.
-
The CVT is much easier on fluid than most automatic and manual gearboxes. In previous posts in this thread you can see that one member contacted sellers with high mileage CVTs many of whom had no problems in 200,000+ miles and never had changed the CVT fluid. Some elect to change the fluid anyway but there is no concrete evidence that this is necessary unless you tow or are experiencing problems with your CVT.

I have 60k on my 2013 Legacy.
I just talk to my local Subaru dealership. They service front and rear differential and they do not flush or change the fluid in the transmission since it's CVT. Is this correct?
Correct. The CVT is examined to ensure that there are no leaks and if none are found then you are good to go.

This makes me nervous. In the coming months I was planning on buying 2014 2.5 Premium with 50k miles from a friend and now I'm second guessing whether I should or not. Damn.
-
Update: 92k miles, getting progressively more jerky, mainly in stop/go traffic and coasting/breaking. Haven't really noticed any issues when accelerating. I baby this car, 90% highway miles. I will probably get the ECU/TCU program updates and see if that helps. CVT fluid was drained/filled at about 70k.
Was there any jerkiness before you had the CVT drained and filled?
-
I'm beginning to wonder if it's best not to change the fluid in these things.
That's almost what I was thinking.
-
2014 36K, no CVT issues.
2015 20K, no CVT issues.
Neighbors 12 or 13, over 200K, no cvt issues.
Do you know if your neighbors have done any fluid changes on the cvt?
-
Here are some.
The first two are errors but the other ones are good. At one point there was one with over 400,000 miles.
-
I'm sad to say that at 118,000 miles the CVT was just diagnosed with a bad bearing. It started making noise a few days ago and I suspected it was a bearing noise. I took it in for a fluid change and they advised against the service due to the bad bearing. I did previously have the fluid changed at 75,000 miles.
I was quoted $8,000 installed for new and $3,000 installed for used with 40,000 miles. I'm disappointed this trans didn't go further especially since the majority of miles are highway miles. I will be trading the car in as it isn't worth putting that kind of money into it considering the amount of miles I put on every year.
Now I need to decide whether I want to stay with Subaru or look at something else.
I do like my wife's Outback but now my confidence in the CVT longevity is shaken. I'm glad she only puts 12,000 miles a year on her car.
Man that sucks. Did they say what bearing it was? This is really the first I've heard of any problems with the 2013-2014 CVTs.
Hope things go well for you in whatever you choose though.

So my wife and I welcomed our first child into the world a month ago. It has been a crazy few weeks but overall has been an amazing and life changing event. I know some people don’t like to bombarded by baby photos from new parents so I will keep it to a minimum. I know I’m not super active on here but I generally spend at least a little time on this forum everyday and you all feel like good friends so I thought I would share.
