  1. Wow- my dealer wanted $7000 for a new transmission. which suit? I'd like to find out more? I got my used transmission from http://www.amuap.com $999, $800 to install plus fluids- around another $100, at a local transmission shop.
  2. the torque converter is what goes first in the CVT. abrupt stalls are the torque converter not getting out of lock up. My torque converter went at 105,000. new one was around $1800 I think- only lasted 11 months, 23,000 miles. needed a new tranny. $7,000 from dealer. I got a used tranny and had a local place install it for under $2,000. I wouldn't bother getting the torque converter replaced. I would just put a used tranny with low miles in it.
  3. repair warranties are 12,000 miles. preprinted on your receipt
  4. My torque converter only lasted 11 months- 23,000 miles. I bought a used tranny and had it put in. maybe the metal filings from the first torque converter got into the tranny.
  5. Torque converter is bad Service Bulletin # 16-90-13 Design Change to Lock-Up Type Torque Converter Torque Converter Bulletin Description: This bulletin announces the availability of a countermeasure torque converter assembly to address a customer concern of very low engine RPM when coming to a stop. The condition is similar to coming to a stop in a manual transmission equipped vehicle without depressing the clutch pedal. Thrust washer wear inside the torque converter torque converter can cause restriction of the oil passage used to bleed off lock-up clutch application pressure. The result is either a delayed (momentary low engine rpm) or no lock-up pressure release. The thrust washer has been changed from a solid bushing-type to a needle bearing type.
  6. sounds like mine did- quick- get a 100,000 mile warranty and have the tranny replaced.
  7. 2010 Legacy. at 118,000 I had the torque converter replaced. it lasted less than a year and my Tranny went- Dealer wanted $7400 to replace- just crazy. I just purchased a used transmission and had a local shop put it in. about $2200 total- The torque converter was $1800. less than a year ago. I was shocked the fine print on the bottom of the Subaru receipt is 12 months 12,000 miles for warranty. I should have just put a used tranny in then. Subaru might offer something, but it just isn't worth putting a new one in and Subaru only warntees their repairs for 12,000 miles. I got the tranny from UM used auto parts. I couldn't believe they offered a 3 year unlimited mile warranty on the used tranny. you might want to try them and call a local shop to see what they want to put one in. They have to add new fluids also- about $200 http://www.aimuap.com
  8. I assume you mean the torque converter needs to be replaced: I did get subaru to pay a portion. call them prior to the work being done. 1-800-subaru 3 “Service Bulletin # 16-90-13 Design Change to Lock-Up Type Torque Converter Torque Converter Bulletin Description: This bulletin announces the availability of a countermeasure torque converter assembly to address a customer concern of very low engine RPM when coming to a stop. 9. 1800- 2000 is for the torque converter. did you get an extended waranty? maybe get on first- definitely call subaru
  10. that price is ridiculous. go somewhere else $1800-$2000 at the subaru dealer. call subaru also to see if they will kick up something towards it.
  11. sounds like the torque converter to me. How many miles? maybe you can get it replaced under warranty. It will get worse until it stalls every time you stop Service Bulletin # 16-90-13 Design Change to Lock-Up Type Torque Converter Torque Converter Bulletin Description: This bulletin announces the availability of a countermeasure torque converter assembly to address a customer concern of very low engine RPM when coming to a stop. 12. I would bring it to the dealer and call Subaru. a new torque converter is probably what you need, not the entire transmission. do you have 100,000 mile extended warranty? should be $1800 for the repair from the dealer. Subaru might kick up some. 2010-2012 CVT torque converters are replaced with one with a different valve in it. 2013 are ok I think Service Bulletin # 16-90-13 Design Change to Lock-Up Type Torque Converter Torque Converter Bulletin Description: This bulletin announces the availability of a countermeasure torque converter assembly to address a customer concern of very low engine RPM when coming to a stop. 13. $1800-$1900 for a torque converter replacement, not $8000. Where did you come up with that? complain to Subaru. maybe your issues will be covered.
  14. Got the torque converter replaced in NJ. Subaru said they would reimburse me $500. I just checked, on sams club auto, I can get %15 off repairs at another nearby dealer. 1 800 subaru 3 is subaru wordwide. call them. I wrote them a letter telling them I am disappointed they didn't fix it in its entirety or at least half. My sister is in Rhode Island and had a $1900 quote a year ago. Haven't gotten my reimbursement yet (it's been only a week and a half). This should be a recall. call other dealers to see what the torque converter replacement would be. the part was over $600.
