  1. I'm a dummy so bear with me. When you say the LEDs are reversed, what's that mean. Also another clue. The map lights came on faintly this morning when I opened the door but quickly faded.
  2. I did this mod years ago and it went fine, except on of my map buttons broke. I replaced the map light assembly and plugged everything back in, but now the map lights don't come on with the door when I open the door. They work independently when I push each button. Any ideas what I might have disturbed to undo my mod?
  3. Lifehacker has this article today about adding an aux-in for $3.00. Is it really as simple as identifying the right pin connections in our radios and soldering a stereo jack to the board? http://lifehacker.com/5987818/easily-add-an-auxiliary-port-to-an-old-car-stereo-for-about-3
  4. Lucky you. Autolumination.com sent me a defective array and wouldn't take responsibility for it. They put the onus on me, as if I caused the damaged. I returned the defective array along with an extra light I hadn't ordered (they included it in the original order by their mistake) but still had to pay most of the cost for a new light. They generally have good products but I wasn't very happy with autolumination.com service.
  5. Sorry for the delay, but I actually made the trip through Enigma a few weeks ago. There is absolutely nothing there, which is odd because it is a four-lane state road leading to Waycross. My idea now is to open up a tourist trap with all kinds of t-shirts and other knick knacks.
  6. I've got a 2005 silver 2.5 Ltd. and was doing some driving today. What's the east/west connector? The downtown connector is the only connector I know of.
  7. Not much happening around the Macon area. We pick up the back roads from Macon for trips to St. Simons. One of these days, I'd like to head further down 75 to Tifton, then cut across 82. This passes through Enigma, GA. I just want to say that I've been there.
  8. Just use the existing photos and substitute crimp connectors (Radio Shack, Home Depot) for the soldering. Rather than solder or attach the diodes directly to the contacts, I added another 3-inch piece of shielded wire to the end of the diodes, then just threaded the bare end of the wires underneath the contacts where they meet the plastic housing.

  10. I wouldn't be too concerned about a straight up return, although I returned a dome light that was too large. When I sent it back, they claimed it was damaged and wouldn't give me full credit to another bulb. They also sent an extra map light that I didn't order and I sent that back with the dome light. They still wouldn't give me the benefit of the doubt that the dome light may have been defective.
  11. I tried soldering the diodes directly to the contacts and screwed up one of the map light buttons. In the end, I just soldered a short piece of wire on the other end of the diodes and just tucked the stripped wire end under the copper contacts (remember to disconnect the 20 amp fuse before doing anything). It works fine except for the one switch not staying "clicked" if you go to use the map light when the door is closed. I fee stupid for screwing up the map light switch, but at least to replace the whole assembly isn't too terrible: $87 from the dealer.
  12. MARTA is a POS. I ride it every day, parking my Legacy Wagon at the North Springs station and taking the train to Five Points. Doing so saves about a gallon of gas per day, lessens some of the stress and cuts my risk of a wreck by 50%. I just wish there was a quick alternative from my house in Roswell. Safety is not so much an issue during peak hours as is reliability. The system is badly broken down due to mismanagement and lousy employees.
  13. Well, the 36 array didn't fit, so I sent it back in exchange for the 25 SMT array. I don't hear anything, so when I inquire, they said the array I sent back was damaged and implied that I did the damage. The best they'd do is split the difference with me. Sucks. Watch yourself with these people.
  14. Yeah, especially in Georgia where it seems everyone's in a hurry. Years ago when I commuted to school (and the speed limit on New Jersey highways was still 55 mph) I would cruise at 45 mph to save gas. Crazy, but it worked. Today, I can't seem to do less than 65 - 70. What drives me nuts is seeing people in trucks and SUVs barreling down GA 400 in the morning doing at least 80.
  15. 42 mpg? How do you do that? I cruise at 65 on the highway and the best I can do is 34.
  16. Love to come out to the meets. No performance mods done at this point. I've done the few hacks found on the forum that are great. It's just a matter of money and priorities. I'll probably do a few more cosmetic things and lust over an intake/exhaust upgrade for a while. Let me know about an upcoming meet.
  17. TRS: Do you think the 36 array fixture above the SMT array for $10 bucks less is worth it?
  18. Did this mod a few weeks ago and love it. It did take me two tries, however. The first time, I just could not get the diodes soldered correctly and also wound up damaging one of the map light switches. It still lights but the button doesn't click into the "on" position and stay there. I also blew the 20 amp fuse. The next try, all I did was solder wire onto both ends of the diodes and wedged the wires' exposed ends between the terminals and switches. I wonder if I can get a new switch, or will I have to buy a whole new map light assembly?
  19. Has anyone seen the iPod connection in the new Audi TT? Talk about sweet. There's a small compartment in the glove box with an iPod plug at the back wall, so all you have to do is shove the unit in and control it from the stock radio. Wouldn't that be nice?
  20. Oh, and I asked about voiding the warranty. The service manager at the dealer (Subaru of Gwinnett - Atlanta) said the only thing he'd consider as grounds for voiding the warranty is any ECU programming.
  21. Have to give it up to centerpunch. Did this mod over the weekend and the hardest part was arching my back under the dash. I enquired about reprogramming at the dealership Saturday morning when I brought the car in for scheduled maintenance and they weren't aware of any procedure. So I drove home and Bob's your uncle.
  22. I think I answered my own question this morning about just getting fresh air from outside. Turned on the auto climate control, set the dials to 65 and turned the AC button off. Setting the dials to 65 seemed to do the trick. It felt as though I was getting fresh as opposed to refrigerated air.
  23. What about just getting fresh air through the vents with no heating or cooling? There are times when it's cool enough to go A/C-free but cracking the windows open isn't an option to keep the cabin temperature at a comfortable level. I tried manually adjusting the system but all I got was warm air through the dash vents.
