  1. I think you’re right. I put the ‘97 unit and everything seems to work well
  2. I'm chasing the normal HVAC control gremlins in the '98 GT (directional controls stick on dash only) and would like to install the control unit from out old '97, but I notice most places list units for '95- '97 and then for '98- '99 with no interchangeability between those years. Everything looks identical between the earlier and later control unit so I wonder what the change was.
  3. Since both of my remaining 2nd gens are now driven by my sons, I was happy to drive both of them this weekend. Rescued the '98 GT from where it's been sitting at college for the past month by swapping out the passenger's side brake caliper from the one from our '97 GT (RIP). Drove it home so I can see where on the radiator the small amounts of steam I see are coming from.
  4. That stinks!. I love the woodgrain center vent panel I got from Ebay ($27 not too bad). I didn't have to disassemble it or anything but it didn't seem brittle. I have experienced the same thing on my old '88 Nissan truck when it was around 16- 147 years old. I removed the plastic around the center vents and it began to bust up like that.
  5. Installed a new Pioneer double DIN head unit in the '97 GT today. It now has a 21st century sound system (and it's about to go to my 17 year old son who will appreciate that :-) ). I also found where someone had disconnected the subwoofer connections in the dash for some reason that that now works too.
  6. Got my package from Superbright LED's today so I'll be doing my 3rd dash cluster LED upgrade on the '97 GT when the temp outside isn't 100 degrees. My son selected blue since it is going to be his ride (and he likes the blue LED's on his brother's '98 GT). At least we'll be able to see the dash lights now.
  7. Actually the brake pedal does have a plastic grommet that contacts the plunger on the brake light switch. We found that out when the grommet disintegrated one night driving home in the '97 GT and the brake lights were still on after we got out of the car at home.
  8. Those snowflakes look so nicer on a second gen! I've got 5 of them stacked up in he garage waiting to go on my wagon. I just need the money for a new set of 16" tires. I was thinking of getting once just slighter bigger in diameter than the 14's for less chance of rubbing , speedometer error, etc...
  9. I've never had a third gen (although my parents have their 2000 Outback that just turned 60K miles that I might end up with someday), although they are nice looking. I think 2nd gens have more character. I would like to populate our entire family with them (3 already, but that isn't enough).
  10. Since the wagon is down with a bad alternator, I drove the '97 GT on the 110 mile weekly round trip to the office today. Since I replaced the ECU it has been running great! I actually really love the car and enjoyed having the sunroof opened up in 80 degree weather on the ride home. Thinking of maybe fixing this one up and giving my son the wagon to drive instead. Love them both though... just need more 2nd gens in the family!
  11. That's a nice find for sure! Hanging on to your 2nd gen or are you going to part with it?
  12. That's a sweet wagon! I bought a set of GT rims for my wagon. Can't quite afford new tires for them until I wear out the 14's on the car now, but can't wait to put them on.
  13. Continued to chase around my idle issues on the '97 GT to no avail. My son returned home from college for Easter so I was happy to see the '98 GT is treating him well. Saw an ad for a red '99 GT wagon that I would love to have.
  14. I found the source of my P0106 code today. I apparently had knocked the vacuum line that goes to the MAP (on the passenger's side inner fender). I noticed to short piece of hose that attaches to the engine was very hard, so I replaced it along with a couple of other vacuum lines. Code hasn't been back yet but we'll drive it around some more tomorrow and see.
  15. It sounds like the exact same starter issue we had with the '98 GT as soon as we bought it. Not a single issue with the rebuilt Denso starter since we put it in.
  16. I was just looking at the pics of all of the 2nd gen Legacies you've had. I just bought one identical to the White '98 GT (so far I'm loving it and only 94K miles on it). I recall one of your first EJ22D builds when I joined here 3- 4 years ago- was that the car you installed it in?
  17. I think if this were 30 years ago a guy driving a wagon would look like a nerd. Since yesterdays wagons= today's minivans, wagons today are less common and far more cool. This is the first wagon I owned for my personal use ( We used to have a 1st gen wagon as our family car before it was outgrown and replaced by a minivan) and I love it and being seen in it.
  18. I got that my 12 year old son's best friend (he's really a nice kid) when he first saw my wagon after I got it "that's a soccer mom car"
  19. I'd go for either (and am considering a second one)- but I like the look of the wagons better than the sedan. Also there's a strange sense of cool for a guy to drive a wagon.
