  1. If I disconnect the XM, the sound goes away (you mean as if I was trying to "play" the silent CD as a regular cd in the changer, right?) b/c if the silent CD is selected in the changer, and playing, and the XM is disconnected there is no interference. However - is the aux-in designed to have the silent cd in a certain slot in the changer (1 thru 6)?

These may be dumb questions but i just cant figure this thing out - and im so jealous that everyone else has "crystal clear" success....

  2. Hey Guys - hearing all of everyone's success with Jazzy's board is really making me frustrated. I am still having interference problems since installing my Aux-In board to my XM Commander.

Would anyone in the NH/MA area be willing to help me re-install this to make sure everything was done correctly? I am realllly illiterate when it comes to audio install work, it would be a HUGE help and Id be willing to pick up some beers or whatever to compensate for your time and efforts.

Let me know if anyone is willing to help out! I live in Exeter, NH...but def. willing to travel to you...

  3. Hey Guys -

Unfortunately I am still having issues with my aux-in using my XM Commander. I had an audio install place do it, but they have fiddled around with it so much that they said they are going to have to start charging me additional labor costs to keep pulling it apart and figuring out whats going on, since its technically "not their product", which they did disclaim in the beginning.

So - my questions to any of you is, is there anyone in the southern new hampshire area, seacoast, northshore massachusetts, etc. (I live in Exeter, NH) to possibly come help me some afternoon/evening to pull this thing apart and see if we can re-install it and figure out what is causing the buzzing and continuous hiss from my xm radio??? I would REALLY appreciate it....I just do not trust myself enough to attempt it by myself! I would not mind driving to whomever either....

If anyone is interested - please PM me and we can discuss it further. I just want to get the most out of this great feature.

    Thanks for your help.

    Joe

  4. Joe, it sounds like something is not right in the hookup. I have no such background sounds.

Now, that being said, can you explain your set up a little bit more. Are you running an iPod through the line in? Do you have another device connected to the mini-jack?

Remember that this will allow bleed through if you are listening to AM or FM. e.g. If I play my iPod, and set the radio to AM, I can hear both. Are you getting background noise bleeding though. Without understanding what is connected to the input(s) and what you are listening to, I'm just guessing. Do you have a schematic of "as-installed" that you can scan and put up for someone to look at.

All I have to say is mine is very clean. The sound quality is superb. I've even played MP3's off my Garmin Nuvi via the mini-jack and it sounds fine too.

My primary hookup is an XM Commander. The sound I am hearing does not happen when my IPod is connected. The sound is def. not something coming through AM/FM. The audio place says it's gotta be linked to the battery or "power" connection b/c the IPOD doesnt do it.....? I know there are GLI's connected to get rid of any alternator noise as well.

I did not install the unit so not sure on the scematic of this install, however they said they followed everything from Jazzy's install manual. I probably can get them to sketch something out for me or put something together in a word document and email it.?

  5. Okay - When I first got this installed I had some issues with the alternator buzzing, however was fixed through adding a GLI in the right spot. Since that buzzing has been resolved, I now here another sound, which I believe was being masked by the buzzing from the beginning.

The sound resembles a continuous skipping hiss, almost as if the speakers are picking up the sound of the cd-laser scanning the silent cd.....not sure but just speaking my thoughts on this. You can only start to hear it when the volume gets above 10 or 11 and is really evident when XM is on talk stations or some station that there is some vocal or musical down-time.

The audio-install place that did this for me has been super helpful in resolving this issue and have tried everything they can, to the extent where if they spend more extensive time they will have to charge me. However, they have spent a lot of "free" time on this already and are too unaware of the board to identify if it is that or something else.

So, my questions to you are:

    1) should I try creating a new silent cd? if so, how do i do that?

    2) have you heard of this noise happening with anyone else?

    3) could it be a possibility that my board has some sort of problem with it?

Would appreciate any sort of insight/help with this, as I am bummed out that I have heard such great reviews from everyone and mine is working less than the perfect everyone else has. Also, I know people on this board are very meticulous and keen, as am I, so I am sure that I am not just picking up on something that others just dont.

    Thanks.....

    Joe

  6. Here are some pictures of my completed XM/Aux-In install. Had a custom radio shop do it....and once they figured out the interference problem I was having (think they had the GLI connecting through the wrong line), it works VERY nice!

Thanks for all the help along the way to doing this from everyone....

  7. That buzzing is probably from the XM Commander's power supply. You may need a GLI to eliminate it.

Went there today and they ended up putting in a GLI, and it didn't help. It still makes the buzzing. It does not buzz when the car is on, but not running? They think it is the "computer" or whatever for the Commander (not the unit, but what everything connects to).

They are going to swap that out on Friday and see what happens....

  8. Just got mine installed over the weekend. I originally was going to go with the XM Roady XT in the cubby, however it really didn't fit well and there would have been WAY too much customization (i.e. hacking of the interior) and I didn't want to go that route. SO.... I decided to go with the XM Commander in the cubby and they brought the female end into the glove box so you can disconnect the XM line out and put it into an Ipod or whatever....(I'll post pictures).

However - Whenever the Line-in is going into the XM radio, there is a constant buzzing sound?? I thought this was only supposed to happen with an Ipod when charging?? Also, when I unplug the XM and put the line-in into my Ipod (not being charged) there is NO buzzing...just crystal clear sound as intended?

My thoughts was that the male-female connection from XM is not completely "in", however I am not sure. I had a custom car audio place install this whole thing, so I am bringing it back to them tomorrow morning to get it looked at....

    Any thoughts????

    Thanks!

    Joe

  9. just got my Aux-in board in the mail today....just as everyone says...."speeeedy delivery".

stephenahood - on saturday i will be getting my xm roady xt customly installed into my cubby (w/ it still being able to be closed), along with the AUX-In being installed as well.....

I will post pictures, etc. likely on sunday or saturday night!

    JC

  10. Jazzy - really appreciate your help clarifying the best options for me. Based on your answers, If I choose the PRO-KIT, that will not only connect to the Roady, but enable me to disconnect the line-out, connect it to Ipod and charge it at the same time? or will the charger be something I purchase (just making the Pro-Kit eliminate the noise that will be associated with it while "charging".)?

Think this should be the end of my "Aux-In for Dummies" posting...

    Thanks again,

    Joe

  11. Okay - just got my Roady XT and am ready to bring it in to the audio shop and show them this board and see what they can do.

However - the more I go back and read this thread and hear about questions like uncled (dave) posts, the more "un-knowledgable" I feel about this aux-in board. Example: the first reason I became interested in this is like most, I wanted to get the best sound quality out of my XM radio as I could (FM mod just isnt good enough). Now, I have been reading and hearing that there is background noise associate with this, its better to use a line out versus the headphone jack that comes with it. I will 90% of the time be utilizing this for my xm radio, however there will be times when I want to hook up my Ipod and listen to that.

So basically, whats the best option for me with this board with not having to deal with background noises and making changes to the board itself. I want to be able to bring this to the install place and tell them exactly what I want/need without them having to do "guesswork" b/c they are unfamiliar with this board.

Let me know your thoughts - thanks!

    Joe

  12. The FM modulator on my Roady2 is what drove me to start this whole project, so yea - it makes a huge difference.

I will admitt that I have been doing some skipping around on this thread, however it is a tid-bit long... anyways, whats the latest on the "New Gen" board that works without a silent CD? any new developments....

I am really close to getting my Roady XT and want to make sure it gets done right...meaning I def. want that aux. input. when the shop installs it. So, if it means another month until the new gen, I will wait......but if you're unsure, I will probably go ahead and buy your current version.

    Joe

  13. Jazzy -

Is the sound quality in this board that much better than just utilizing the FM Modulator with most XM RADIOS?

I am looking to get a custom install done of the Roady XT in my cubby, but do not want the lousy sound quality of the wireless FM Modulator. Is this the item I am looking for to complete this stealthy and worthy install??

    THanks
