  1. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has successfully used getting upset as a way out of a ticket.
  2. I've never understood those who get upset with the police when they get pulled over. Getting upset isn't going to help you out and can make matters worse.
  3. Doesn't Subaru have a commercial which states x% of their cars are still on the road after y number of years?
  4. This is what I find puzzling. My 05 was affected by this issue and the previous owner had it repaired under the recall. Under my ownership the problem returned and Subaru covered half the cost of a new ECU. I'm surprised, given the seriousness of a brake failure, Subaru hasn't offered to assist the OP in this issue given they did so for my ECU issue (which I do not consider nearly as serious as the brake issue). Puzzling.
  5. I think we all understand vehicles will wear out and parts will eventually fail. However, in this instance, the manufacturer has issued three recalls for the system in question. A recall is a recognition there is a known problem that needs to be corrected. That is the difference between wears out and design issue.
  6. The specific issue you're referring to is not the specific issue I am referring to. Hence the irrelevant comment.
  7. Irrelevant. I was referring to one specific issue. I'd almost guarantee if the brakes failed and he was involved in a serious accident Subaru would be named in a lawsuit.
  8. They can claim whatever they like but that won't make it so. If an attorney were to get involved I bet their position would change. I think the pictures posted by covertrussian provide ample evidence the recall fix is insufficient to address the problem.
  9. My concern is for all the non car guys who aren't reading enthusiast forums. This is a very dangerous issue and was deemed enough so that multiple recalls were issued for it. If the corrective action is insufficient then people's lives are at risk or serious injury / death.
  10. In this instance the manufacturer has acknowledged a problem and as a result has issued several recalls.
  11. Any cost we would provide would merely be a shot in the dark and completely meaningless to your situation. I don't mean to sound harsh but there are too many factors for us to provide any helpful number. The best bet is, as you already plan to do, is contact an insurance agent. What I can say is I've been a very satisfied customer of State Farm.
  12. IMO replace the manifold and save yourself some headache. Every time I attempted to use JB Weld, two part epoxy, super glue, what-have-you it fails. Usually at the worst possible time.
  13. My dash doesn't show any signs of waviness. I believe it's the original dash.
  14. I think it we'll find ourselves in a cycle. As more of this technology is deployed more people will pay less attention. It's my opinion there are people who feel more confident about texting and driving when they have technology like Eyesight in their vehicle.
  15. As someone who works in the computer security field self driving vehicles worry me. Damn! You beat me to it!
  16. I agree with this 100%. One only needs to look at the second post in this thread for an example.
  17. Thanks for posting. That's a much different gauge / center console display compared to my Outback XT.
  18. Also make sure the delay between the two presses is not too long. Otherwise the second press will only unlock the already unlocked drivers side door.
  19. Any chance you I could ask you to post a picture of this gauge? My car has the instantaneous MPG reading but it's digital...one of the display options on the center console where temperature and average MPG can be found. As someone else mentioned this used to be found on BMW's vehicle. I had it on a few of the BMW's I own. The idea being you could see the increased fuel consumption and adjust to lower it. As you said it's primarily useless. In fact it seemed to do just the opposite. As I managed my fuel consumption I discovered I was obtaining slightly worse fuel economy than just driving the vehicle. I gave up on using it long ago (I think BMW did away with it...at least my current BMW doesn't have it).
  20. Were the wires cut but the rubber accordion covers were not? I inspected mine and everything looks good. Just want to ensure the possibility doesn't exist the wires are being damaged and I'm not noticing it.
