  1. Ok i thought this what my issue but im having no luck. Here is my issue.

    No matter what.

The air bag light is on in the cluster

The airbag light says off for the passenger

and the passenger belt chimes and the light also blinks while chimming like it always does.

I could not locate this so called tpm plug yet. Here are so pics

Nvm. Tapatalk blows ******* shit when ever i try to uplaod. **** you Tapatalk get your shit together.

I bought my 08 Legacy yesterday, and have this light on too. Light wasn't on yesterday that I noticed, but now it is (notably cold today.)

Went to the autozone for their OBD-II, before googling up this thread. Clearly nothing came of the OBD scan.

-->My question is, how superficial is this light?

--Is it merely a red light wasting some watts, or is it going to affect my airbags in an accident?

How many different solutions could I perform before truly fixing the light? This seems like it should become a write-up thread somehow, on each of the ways the light can be set off, the

There are widespread occurrences of this problem- http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2006/subaru/legacy/10512662.aspx

Lastly, from the article, what FAULT may this be? --- Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with AIR BAGS . THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT. IN COLD WEATHER, IT DOES NOT WORK, "GENERATING AN AIRBAG FAULT." THE PROBLEM IS POOR SOLDER IN PART #84621AG41A. OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. ----> http://car-and-safety.com/subaru-legacy-safety/subaru-legacy-2006.htm

Ok..guys....search the forum for air bag light. It's got something to do I with a compactor inside of your overhead box (where sunroof switch is) having a crapy soldering job done. You need to sure up the solder some more.

  2. no you do not have to take bumper off to take grill off. I have 2005 though I do not think it is much different than mine.

If I take out the 4 push pin's and undo the four clips on the top of the grill, when I pull on the grill lightly.. the bumper is pulling with it. That tells me that either a piece of the grill is under the bumper or they are attached somehow that isn't visible without bumper removal.

This screw (one on each side) is what seems to be preventing me from taking off my bumper which I have tried 100 different ways to get it out but i can't get a small enough tool in there to undo the dang thing...it's bugging the CRAP out of me.

  3. 1.okay, first you remove the front grille. this is done by taking off the 2 pop-its, pushing on the little tabs, and finangling the grill until the lower clips come off. (no pics of this)

    2. remove the bumper by taking off all the popits under the car connected to the bumper, and the 1 in each wheel well that you can find by pulling back the fender liner. i was pleased that these pop-its were MUCH easier to remove than my WRX's. (no pics of this either.)

    3. here's the front of the car with the grill off.

Is this an 08' ?? Because I am trying to remove my front bumper and I can't do it without (what looks like) having to remove both fenders which means taking apart the front end of my side skirts.. which is a total pain in the @$$

  4. It's fairly easy. Just remove the front grill, and the 8ish pop-its from underneath. You may need to remove the lower driving lights if you want to pull the whole thing off, otherwise you can just lower it to the ground carefully.

I guess I should have been more specific. My bad. I have a 2008. There's more than 8 pins and I have to remove the bumper to take the grill out. Also it looks like I have to take my FENDERS off to take my bumper off! UGH!

  5. 3 out of the 4 subarus I've owned have had this same problem.

In all 3 it was the harness under the passenger or drivers side. It was caused by either my Mag Light or a plastic soda bottle. If you're a clean freak then it's probably something else.

I'm a clean freak. I condition my leather regularly and I am in a car wash club so I get a full detail every week or more for less than $1 a day. That being said I'm the second owner. Just bought it last week. Nothing on the carfax but that doesn't always mean it's accident free although it looks good. Other than that I am waiting for that lovely tax stuff to come in to have a subaru dealer inspect it top to bottom so I know what I need to fix lol

  6. I'm been getting the airbag light 80% of the time in the past couple months. This weekend I took the overhead panel apart and soldered the little board back together. No light this morning on the way to work!

Edit: I snapped a few pictures while fixing mine, for anyone who worries this repair is beyond them.

    1. Remove the map light cover (pry on the sides with your finger nails)

    2. Remove the two philips screws holding the panel to the roof.

    3. Remove the panel (it has 3 prongs that hold it against the headliner on the front edge)

    7. Re-solder any other components you feel like. I did D1, R1 (the 511 guy), and all the resistors on the other side.

    8. Put back together!

You don't need much experience soldering to take care of this, I've only done it a few times myself. Let the iron heat up, melt a decent amount of solder onto the tip, shake/tap to remove the excess, and then place the tip against the joint you want to fix. Once the board heats up enough the solder will flow down. I basically filled the corners with a nice little dot of solder on each one.

Second edit: I'm sorry if that last picture is sideways, Photobucket shows it straight and then upside down if I use the "rotate" function. Meh.

Any fixes for the dash airbag light yet?
