  1. I only run 93 octane. I started with the 91 map because I've read that the some have knock with the OTS maps. It was definitely faster, but I won't be running the stage 1 ots again. The car's just under 135k, I bought at 125k, and has never been modified. Logs from the Cobb stock map are attached. I didn't get as good of pulls, and didn't get up to 6500 rpm, but it the only knock shown is at peddle lift off. I had the live monitor showing knock sum, and when cold, it was recording knock when in neutral coming to a stop. As far as logging parameters, are there any extra I should be logging, or any I can remove? datalog6.csv datalog8.csv
  2. I just installed my Cobb AP v2 yesterday, did a couple of logs today, which are attached. That's kind of a lot of knock at high load right? Stage 1, 91 octane map, car is stock. I'm gonna install the Cobb Stock Mode map and do some more logs...and probably think about who I should get an e-tune from. datalog2.csv datalog3.csv
  3. I tried searching, but couldn't really find a definite answer. How long does it take to do the initial install and flash? Car is an 06 LGT, bone stock. I have an AP v2, with the latest firmware and 5MT maps.
  4. If you guys want a good instantaneous heater, install a boiler, and rig up one of these bad boys. They're good enough for hospitals, military bases, and universities.
  5. My college did it for scheduling reasons. Somewhere between the 1st and 2nd midterms, we had fall break, which was a Monday and Tuesday. For Thanksgiving, we were off Weds-Friday. The fall break was, I assumed, just to balance once the time off for Thanksgiving, since classes were M/W/F or T/Th. In the spring, we just had one week long break.
  6. I got a quote from IAG Performance for new tires, and he recommended new rear bushings at the same time since mine are pretty rusted - very frequent issue on these cars apparently. He said it can take anywhere from 2-4 hours to remove the seized bushings, depending on how smoothly the torching and hammering goes.
  7. If it makes you feel any better, one of my best friends started dating a girl when she was 17, about to go into her senior year of high school, and he was 22, with another year or so of college. They're still together now, about 3 years later, and a pretty good couple. Her parents love him, she's a real sweetheart, and he's treats her very well - he took her on a nice, ~10 day tropical vacation this past winter.
  8. Yup. I'm planning on picking up an STI uncatted UP, and getting a tune. No downpipe/stage 2+ tunes are in my plans for the next few years. I'm not sure what to do about the turbo. I'm taking Supraru's word (he's got 3000+ posts over at rs25.com, and definitely knows his stuff) that it's in great shape...I haven't inspected it myself yet since I've only had the car for a few weeks. But this forum has me paranoid it's gonna take a dump into my engine at any moment. I may pick up a boring DD in a few years and start modding the LGT, so I'm considering going for a VF52 or 16G now, for room for more power in the future. Or I may just go with a new/barely used VF40 or VF46. Or maybe just start inspecting the turbo every 1 or 2 oil changes?
  9. 127.5k on mine. Bought at 125k miles from Supraru on here. He had one of the nicest swapped 2.5RS coupes over at rs25.com until he sold it, and is a tech at a subaru dealer. The original owner brought the car in around 124k and it was diagnosed with head gasket failure, so they decided to trade in on a new car. Supraru bought and repaired it. Car is stock and appears to have never been modified. Cylinder walls look great, and he seafoamed the pistons and replaced the piston rings. And according to him "I should probably add that I checked the turbo as well. Exhaust housing was bone dry and there was next to zero shaft play. Felt like a new factory turbo shaft to me and no damage to fins." Valves were lapped/new gaskets. Unfortunately don't have records from 1st owner, so I don't know if it's the original turbo, but this car was obviously well taken care of. I changed the oil at 125.9k, and it hasn't burned any yet. I'll be checking the easier to access banjo bolt at my next oil change, and will be sending an oil sample into Blackstone. Has a little steering wheel vibration from 60-70 mph, but otherwise feels great.
  10. My 2001 2.5RS coupe is for sale over at rs25.com: Link
  11. Thanks. I've been driving my 5-speed 2.5 RS for about 8 years (got it a couple months before turning 17), and, while I do drive kind of fast, I don't launch/stoplight race. I like feeling the power once I'm in gear, but I don't rush my shifts...I get more satisfaction out of a smooth shift than I do a fast one.
  12. I'm likely picking up an 05 LGT unlimited this weekend. Single owner, 91k miles, had all the major dealer services, including the 90k mile service with new turbo. The seller said his wife mostly drives the car (true or not, who knows) so it hopefully hasn't been beaten on. It's all stock, and I plan on stage 2 power. UP/Catted DP, possibly upgraded TMIC, and probably have the tuning done by IAG Performance. Clutch hasn't been done yet, so it would probably be coming due for replacement soon anyway. Is there any way to test 5th gear? It sounds like these are all sudden failures without any warning noises, so I'm guessing the answer's no. When/if 5th gear does go, is it safe to limp home or to the shop in 1st-4th? Or should one just pull over and get towed? Edit - And before anybody makes jokes about "to ensure max transmission life, don't drive your car," I'm aware that buying a high mileage turbocharged Subaru can open a can of worms, but I've really taken a liking to these cars (especially after 8 years of driving my underpowered 2.5RS), and am willing to pay to play.
