  1. 50/50 on Kimi following that order because he hasn't had a win in ~130 races but he also knows that could seriously jack up Seb's season. If I had to pick a side, I'd say he'd move over. I was disappointed the first round of Q3 when Hammy took provisional pole but got overly excited according to my fiance when Seb bested that and then Kimi went even faster. I can't imagine how the Tifosi took that and how nuts they'd be tomorrow if they finish like that.
  2. As goofy as the Halo looks, Leclerc would be dead without it. They showed a closeup of the car on the side of the track (maybe about 2/3 through the race) where the announcers were saying the Halo had a big tire mark on it but that was the paint rubbed/worn off. If you look closely at it, I'm pretty sure it was cracked, severely, in a couple spots.
  3. I was disappointed at that Q3 finish although it'll make the start interesting. Kimi was almost owed pole after his Q1 and Q2 runs but that could just be my bias.
  4. https://wtf1.com/post/force-india-could-lose-all-2018-championship-points-to-continue-in-f1/ I guess Stroll & Co. only bought the assets, not the name. If true, they'll need a new team name which resets them back to zero points. Harsh. It's not a motorsport.com article so I can't say how accurate that is but still, that's a scary proposition.
  5. And refuelling. And not having mandatory 2 compound use.
  6. Yeah, I don't see them keeping Hulk as #1. I doubt he's happy about that.
  7. I think Ricciardo flattening Vettel for that one year had to do with their abilities to adapt to a drastic power unit change... it took Vettel longer to adapt than Ricciardo. Ferrari bringing up Leclerc over Kimi doesn't do anything to help their constructor's championship points which is really all that *should* matter as far as the team's concerned. I think the team is only protecting a driver's chances to win a WDC is so that #1 driver stays to win the most points they can (Lewis or Vettel) and the team is trying to find a competitive but not too competitive #2 driver to win as many points as he can without compromising the #1's chances of WDC. If that's the case, Ferrari and Mercedes are right where they should be... just that Bottas has more time left in the sport than Kimi. Bringing up Leclerc versus signing someone else helps keep Vettel there but it does nothing to help the constructors championship for at least a year or two, unless Leclerc is a prodigy like Vettel was when he bumped from STR to RBR.
  8. Max has made quite a few rookie mistakes (possibly due to ego) and needs to learn when to be aggressive and when to play the long game. I don't think anyone disagrees that Ric is one of the best passers on the grid so I don't see how he'd be second fiddle to Max for at least a couple years. Read an article on Jalop the other day about how Ric had the longest stint at or with a RB affiliated team, 7 years, so he's lived out his entire RB contract. I think Horner's comment has to do with him being salty he couldn't get Ric to stay. Horner had a much different attitude when Vettel left and Vettel exercised his "I'm in a shit car" contract clause, not living out the last day of the contract without issue like Ric did.
  9. Saw something about Alonso abandoning F1 altogether to hunt for his Indy 500 win and then McLaren letting Vandoorne go just due to performance. That leaves two holes at McLaren with a better engine... perhaps Ocon or Perez could end up there. It also bums me out about Williams... even a few years ago when it was Massa and Bottas, they weren't bad. I think they've had a harder fall from grace than McLaren with their Honda debacle the last couple years. I know in the long run it makes sense for Ferrari to bring up Leclerc but I want to see Kimi there just one more year... he's been a model of consistency during this middle part of the year with 4-5 consecutive podiums.
  10. Holy shit. Lance Stroll's dad, Lawrence, bought Force India. I guess we know where Lance is going this Silly Season...
  11. That corner is where I sat in 2004... it was pretty close to where Ralph hit the wall after Webber's Jag spewed oil everywhere. You FELT that car hit the wall in the stands. I was probably 20 or so rows up.
  12. I heard F1 V10s at Indy and yeah, I can agree with that borderline unpleasant. I remember hearing something about BAR Honda having idle problems at Indy 2004 and upping their idle to 9,000rpm. I was like "From what?????"
  13. I've only been to Mid Ohio once and it was one of the last years ALMS was there. The Corvettes in Thunder Alley were something else. Loved it.
  14. That's the press conference I was alluding to... I saw a different video though but same thing.
  15. Agreed with it being a simple first lap racing incident... Kimi "had room" if you force him to take an extremely inside line. Mercedes flying off the handle thinking Ferrari is targeting them is, in Vettel's words, "silly." Vettel said it himself that he'd struggle to be that accurate or precise with a hit, implying it's hard to take someone out like that without damaging your own car. It's not worth the risk.
  16. Without a doubt, those last 8 or 10 laps we're the best laps so far this season. Hell of a drive from Hammy but Vettel had a flier start again. I was surprised with Kimi's reaction to the penalty during the post race interview. Tons and tons of passing.
  17. Not F1 related but WEC... I think there's a rule saying the hybrid cars in WEC need to be electric only when in the pit lane so I guess Toyota was close to the end of the pit lane here when they fired up the gas engine. "Lemme fire up satan here to compensate for being an electric only weiner for a bit" Man, this really makes me want to see a WEC race [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho-dyfI0hAM]Hybrid Endurance Race Car Switching From Electric to Gas Engine Sound - YouTube[/ame]
  18. This circuit seems boring. I watched qualifying but because of the red flag, I missed the results (last 4 min) because the DVR stopped recording at the hour mark.
  19. Max is way over Danny from what I've heard... if Danny's new contract doesn't start with a 3 or 4, I doubt he'd stay.
  20. The Ferrari guys are making close to 50 each, aren't they? I imagine Lewis is up there too... Danny's worth damn near that much as well.
  21. On methanol back then, no? I wasn't into motorsports that long ago... I was still Tonka truck and t-balling.
