  1. Sad to hear the Stinger is tight in the rear. That means the shorter Genesis G70 will be worse...I was holding out hope the manual 2.0t would be a contender. Although I suspect anything RWD will require a winter AWD beater as our recent move put us at the bottom of a steep hill to get out of the neighborhood... I’ve got three cars now, would be fun to convince the wife I need a fourth, lol.

All my DDs have been manual. The last three have been AWD so I’m kinda hooked on that combo.

To be honest if I do go RWD it would probably be an SS. If I stick with AWD that leaves me with: last gen TL SH-AWD 6MT, ‘12 LGT, last gen 535ix 6MT. I considered the Golf AllTrak 6MT with APR+ but I suspect that will be too tight for rear legroom and probably too slow. The current STi is too small as my legs hit the steering wheel (which is odd since I fit in my bugeye), maybe the next gen will remedy that... Luckily I have no intentions of replacing the LGT anytime soon!

I'm 6'2" 240lbs and I fit behind myself in my Stinger no problem. Head room is close, but not touching, and I have knee room to spare. Less room than the 5thGen LGT but that's no surprize. The center position is not a good place to hangout, but the two outboard seats are comfy.

I guess it depends how the driver likes to sit... knees up or legs straight.

Also, if you get in the back seat with the ignition off and the easy access drivers seat enabled, the drivers seat would be all the back on its rails. This can be reduced or disabled entirely if trash-compacting rear passengers is a concern [emoji849]

Getting in and out of the backseat is the real headache. Literally... your lucky if you don't wack your head, due to the low swooping roofline.

The G80 Sport is one half size bigger and same drivetrain. The Stinger is right in between the G70 and G80 in wheelbase length.

  2. There is no "Sport+." Modes are Comfort (default), Eco, Sport, Smart (switches between programming of all three modes depending on driving style), and Custom (you can manually set programming of Eco, Comfort, and Sport for individual parameters, e.g. engine/trans, steering, suspension, etc.).

Manual mode in Eco and Comfort is really just for selecting a gear if the TCU gets it wrong. It's going to reset in around a minute no matter what. In Sport, it will hold it, unless you get to redline, and then it will shift. Supposedly the 2019s will just bounce off the limiter, making it a true manual mode on those. Honestly, if it's in Sport, even on the autocross course, it's not a huge issue. On the road, it's usually in the right gear. The programming is actually quite good. When I was autocrossing, I'd shift into first at the line and then up to second soon after the start, and it might shift up to third at some point, but I don't think I was losing too much due to the wide power band.

Yeah, I asked about the car going into neutral automatically on one of the forums before I realized what was happening, and the collective answer was "huh?" [emoji38] I actually brought it into the dealer and it sat there for a week while they tried to replicate the issue. I thought it only occurred on sunny days when the car was hot, because I hadn't had it happen on any overcast days, so they kept on trying to reproduce it to no avail. Finally, the service writer suggested I drive the car to see if it only happened after the engine warmed up. I got in the car to leave and it happened right away, so the service writer and the tech came over, and we finally figured out it was bouncing out of gear. The Kia regional factory tech was at the dealer for an unrelated issue, so he went out to a random car on the lot and was able to reproduce the issue. Not sure if a revised part is coming, or if they are going to compensate with better user education, but they are at least aware of the design flaw now.

Which stinger forum, if any, do you frequent?

I've not had the shifter issue but I don't think I ever let it bounce back without my hand on it.

I'm waiting to get my front catch can back from Tork motorsports... they put the drain in a place that made it impossible to install and they are reworking it, but they have maybe the worst customer service and communication on the planet, so no idea how many months that'll take...

Screen mesh in the side aero vents to keep rocks out is something I did to keep if from cloying up or the paint getting chipped.

Rear hatch rattle is the only issue I've had, but that was fixed easy enough.

Eibach swaybar going in in a couple weeks!

  3. Thanks, If you go with the GT model, not the GT1 or GT2 you can get it in Panthera Gray which is like a charcoal gray. Looks pretty nice.

I was looking for a GT1 in blue but couldn't find any nearby so I ended up in a GT2. I figure I'll learn to like the extra features. HUD, cooled seats, power side bolsters, LSD, and low beams that turn with the steering.

I also liked how the ivory interior had a two tone to break things up. Most were black black black. Nothing but black.

    Congrats!

Welcome to the club! We can't get the ivory interior in Canada. Looks good. Black or Red nappa leather here.

  4. Dammit! I knew I should have been more specific about my statement. On a stock (mostly) Legacy, as on my mostly stock Forester, the lockdown will make a very noticeable difference. But like on my GT with the suspension upgrades and much wider wheels and tires, the improvement isn't as readily apparent because it is all stiffened up already, but there is still improvement.
Maybe you didn't notice a difference because the rubber bushing in your car's steering shaft isn't broken in yet 🤣🤣🤣
  5. You could park it anywhere you want. Curbs wouldn't make a bit a difference. You can park it like an A-hole but at the end of the day people would still admire it eventhough subconsciously they'd think you're a prick.

    You'll be "that guy's [emoji38]

I actually mentioned that to my wife lol. My only concern is I wouldnt be able to park the thing anywhere !
Becks... Isn't that how everyone in Ontario parks anyway? [emoji3]
  6. embed little metal tabs in the pu, then tighten the mesh with those. Like the metal tabs on those folders for kids that you fold to hold the sheets. its the way i did mine.. once the mesh is positioned i just glued all the metal tabs down. sorry i could only get pics monday
    Genius.

Brass split pins glued down then fix the mesh to those.

  7. Mine vents for longish periods of time. There's a long mild hill on my way to work that I go up in fifth with partial throttle and maybe ~3psi of boost, and I can hear it venting the whole time. I would be concerned that a minute or two of running rich would be too long. The vent between shifts would be only a second.
That sounds like you need to increase the preload on your BPV. It should only open when there is a significant pressure difference between the turbo compressor outlet and the manifold after the throttle plate. That shouldn't happen ever during steady throttle like cruising on the highway.

Your compressor is making boost and you are dumping it to atmo. Could be fouling plugs.

  8. Installed Prothane 16-1610 Diff Bushing Insert Kit on the Fozz today. Now I'm gonna order one for the GT. Took about 1 hour and was fairly simple. Only cost about $22 so it's a no brainer mod, but I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. Thanks for the suggestion guys! Noticed a little difference in throttle response and a little quicker hookup from the rear when I jump on the throttle, but with the slushbox 4eat, I'm sure it's not as solid feeling as it would be with a manual. Less drivetrain lash for sure though.

FYI do a little scouting of the situation on the LGT first. A couple things to note:

    1. The spare tire tub will piss you off royally. It's impossible to get a socket on the studs because its in the way, so torquing to spec is a problem unless you have open end adaptor for a torque wrench.

    2. One or both (don't remember) of the front ones are solid on the Legacy vs the Fozz so it's not needed there. Don't remember the details but you'll figure it out.

Anyway... It's mildly more complicated just because of the tire tub.

  9. As mentioned above we got a bunch more snow over night so I couldn't resist taking the Leggy out to take a few pics in the sun.. :)

    WhKyRe4.jpg

As I was doing it I heard the sound of heavy equipment moving.... looked down the street and saw a city snow plow truck coming along....they plow right along the curb and fill our driveway with huge balls of frozen snow every year.....Hmmmm.... an idea!! I stepped out about 5 feet from the curb a put my camera up to shoot a pic of him making a mess of the driveway....sure enough he moved out to the middle of the road (Where the cars actually drive) and went by leaving my nicely shoveled driveway nice and clear..... doubt if he wanted a picture of his city truck running down a citizen ;)

    Ag0RJmJ.jpg

That probably saved me another couple of hours of digging :)

And what do you think is going to go down the next time he goes by your driveway when you aren't standing there?
