Ordered StopTech SS line, pics up once I get them in. BIG Shouts to KNSBrakes.com for super fast shipping on a Friday evening. Also ordered some cheapo tires for now to get my 09 WRX wheels - Nankang Noble NS-20.

conventional oil is the way to go. Screw Mobil1. There is a reason 99.999% of Subaru owners do not use it. It burns, breaks down quick and lowers male testosterone. Stuff is bad news. I know you have to listen to your builder but do your hw.
There are different blends of Mobil 1 - so which blend are you referring to? All my reading thus far indicates Mobil 1 EP is for turbocharged cars, this is across various sites - bobistheoilguy.com for one... Mobil 1 EP is also Dexos1 approved. Amsoil is a ton of money, read bad things on QS, and Penzoil, and Royal Purple.
My OCI's will be on the 3500 miles mark if not sooner, I think so long as you have a consistent OCI, you're fine. I hate getting sucked into interwebz knowledge - this is a freshly built motor, maybe others failed because they tried to switch over as seals were already starting to give up and leaks were already present. I trust the who built my motor, who has 2 STi's, LGT and FXT.
-
So, he already broke in the engine for you?
According to the above, you were using full sythn and hadn't changed your oil yet. . .
It's not too late to put some conventional in there and follow the steps -
My fault, after retreading he (my builder) did steps 1-6..
I guess 7-8 are on me with the OCI's recommended... Correct I am using full syn which my builder assures me with all his builds he has 0 issues. I'm not truly convinced that Mobil 1 is bad unless you're against syn for break-in?
I will let the car do the 100 miles on the Mobil 1 EP then do a little more research - I don't want conventional oil in my newly built motor, I was told to use syn all the way for a newly built motor.

Here, dude, read this:
That's an awesome page!
Steps 1-8 was handled by my builder, but the OCI recommendation per the article I will follow though. Thank you good sir.

Cant wait to chill again but actually see your car move!
It was moving on Sunday bro, very smooth and nicely too might I add. Can't wait to take it in for the headlights and gauges but I need brake doh safety before style

Also check this: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Files/Mobil_1_Product_Guide.pdf
Seems like higher the weight goes the more zinc/phos is in the oil.

No. Shit.
Same day, literally.
Also, NO MOBIL 1, EVER! Not enough zinc, and it WILL kill your turbocharger!
Full synth should NOT be used for break-in. Your rings need to be seated properly, so you should use some high-mileage blend or non-synthetic. Change it now!
Get out imagine that - us both buying leggies on the same day.
As for the oil, I believe the Extended Protection blend is high mileage, the OCI for this oil is 15,000 miles not that I'd ever do that type of OCI. There are different blends of Mobil 1, are you certain that the gold top doesn't have enough zinc?
My reading tells me a car using regular oil shouldn't be switched to syn but if it's you start out with syn you have to keep using syn - am I misunderstanding something? Lol I spent 2 weeks reading about oil from bobistheoilguy.com thought I had it...
My builder also recommends Mobil 1 or Quaker State - he has a Forester XT, 2 STi's, and his wife had a LGT.
-
I got mine in 08/2012, too! What day?
No kiddin' lol - I believe it was 8/23/12, it was a Thursday when I got paid.
-
100, 500, 1000, and then 3000/whatever OCI.
Did you put in any break-in additive? What are you using for oil?
See I'm anal like that and wanted to do something like that but was told 500, 500, 1000, then 1500..
I'll do the 100, 500, 1000, then so on... I haven't used any break-in additive. I used Mobil 1 EP Gold Top (Fully synthetic) with Mobil 1 EP Gold Top Filter - my readings indicate this oil is good for turbocharged motors, it's also Dexos1 approved or rated whatever that means lol...
-
I want to say that most folks do the first oil change well before 500 miles on a new build...
Oh ok.. Thanks for the suggestion.
-
Drove the car home yesterday - all I can say is WOW, car feels 10x times stronger then when I got the car in 8/2012. I've put on 6.1 miles on the new motor, so I got another 1494 miles before I do any fun stuff... Will do OCI's at 500 a piece then maybe 2500 to 3000 a piece..
Any thoughts or recommendations?

Just got the pics from my builder - I believe the heads are done and has been put onto the new block, pics will go up tomorrow.

did you decide on tires yet and are you going to beef up the trans with the valve body mod, trans bushing and cooler? glad to see more modded legacys on long island
I'm gonna run the Falken Ziex ZE-612's, transmission will have to be next spring/summer I'm sorta broke from all this lol, valve body I should be able to do, and I already have the diff (trans) bushings (ClimberD) waiting to be installed just need the trans cooler. I'm from Queens :-)

Going back with a VF40, or going bigger? You got the deletes -- You gonna up the powah?
I'll break the car in with the VF40 while I'm getting a VF46 rebuilt and upgrade it's compressor wheel to a billet one from xsboostturbochagers.com, once turbo is done I'll install it with my up/down pipes, SPT exhaust, cobb SF intake that I'll be purchasing soon, along with the tgv deletes..Oh and cobb ebcs.
Been in talks with Cryo about tuning - hopefully I can get 285awhp from this setup.
