  1. As far as your cam seals leaking, make sure you've got a new PCV valve in there. My seals started leaking at 95k miles and I was told it was probably because the PCV was plugged up. Might as well replace that if you haven't, since you're doing so much other stuff.
  2. Not sure if you're looking for someone to do this work, but I've heard good things about this place if you are: http://quantum-performance.com All Subarus pictured on their homepage. They're a couple hours from Madison near Port Washington, but if you need the job done right, you might have to look around.
  3. Sorry you had such a bad experience. With your car, you were just set up to fail. With an owner who didn't change the timing belt and have it break, who knows what happened after that, not to mention "the kid" you bought it from?
  4. I just saw this thread, and it stood out that you're in Madison. I'm in Waukesha, and in the four years I've owned my Legacy (not a GT, but a 6-speed anyway), I've never seen a GT on the roads anywhere, not even on a recent 2200 mile road trip (and most I've seen are automatics). The GT is a rare beast, as we know. Nice car.
  5. Did you keep the BRZ tires (215/45 R17) or are those the 17s that the Legacy uses; 215/50 R17?
  6. Could you post some pics? I'd like to see what the car looks like with BRZ rims. One owner had done the same, but left the BRZ stock tires on them, and they looked small on the car.
  7. Good luck finding a fifth-gen manual. I looked far and wide for about 5 months before I finally found one. After 2012, they only were available in the stripped base models. I wanted one with a sunroof and heated seats, and they are pretty rare. For 2015, as you probably know, they are unavailable. Fourth-gen cars are getting pretty high in mileage, so it's unlikely that stepping into a high-mileage, six-year-old car is much of an option. That said, my 2003 Legacy GT got to 180k miles on the original clutch. I'm hoping my 2011 can go just as far! (but I know that was probably a fluke).
  8. I just picked up a used graphite gray 2011 Legacy Premium 6MT with 36k miles after months of looking for one with a MT that wasn't stripped of all options. This one has moonroof and all-weather package. I'm impressed I was able to squeeze out 34 mpg on the highway on my 200-mile trip home. That's the most I've ever gotten out of any of my previous Subarus. This one replaces : 2003 Legacy GT 5MT (bought at 19k miles; sold at 180k miles, original clutch too) 1995 Impreza coupe 5MT (bought at 45k miles; sold at 120k miles) 1987 GL-10 turbo wagon 4AT with selectable 4WD (bought at 64k miles; sold at 120k miles. Early Subaru turbos were kind of shitty, and my experience with this particular car should have blackened my opinion of Subaru, but I stuck with it. I drove it to Alaska from Wisconsin, so that may have had something to do with the sentimental attachment) I am: 42, married, two kids and I work as a marketing copy editor. I have not modified the car at all yet, and I doubt I would do much more than maybe rims and the stereo, as that's pretty much all I did to the previous cars. I am disappointed that Subaru cheaped out on the iPod interface on this 2011 and only included an aux. input, vs. a USB. That's probably my first order of business. Next would be the homely 16-in. rims.
