havent looked into it really.. I have a forester for the winter that I happened to be driving to prep for the winter, so its just been sitting.. Chances are its bearing noise- or maybe too much play in wrist pins.. Havent gotten into it at all. This cars been through 2 turbos since I got it- chances are theres been some metal through it.. Even tho when the 2nd went it was out or warranty and I did it- I removed oil pan-oil cooler and everything, but you never really know till you open it up.. I am convinced that this engine has had every major or minor thing wrong with it that these get.
Ringlands are going- verified with scope
Im guessing valves are too tight- have that misfire everyone searches for then does head job
Turbo(s)- I can verify the banjo bolt was nasty when I replaced the last one- suprised Subaru even put a filtered one back in there after the first one
Oil pick-up- verified had small crack in it when I removed oil pan- swapped it at that time

That's a good call. By the time you're done fiddling around with that one, you might as well get the peace of mind of a new OEM unit.
all depends on funds and power goals..
I went the build a SB route- just cause I thought I had more time and I get good prices through my shop- then she started to get alot of piston slap/knock on cold mornings..
-
that scoring looks pretty bad- if the cylinder walls are also scored- you may be better off getting new case halves- or a block from subi- depends what your power goals are.. between parts and labor- re-using the old block may be more than getting a SB shipped to your door
-
just my 2 cents on the brake rubber issues- I put a reman caliper on my right front after it locked up on me before last winter- car sits alot in winter- the caliper that was replaced locked up solid after sitting for a few weeks at a time- the lower slide pin was stuck- I removed the rubbers and havent had any issues since- just used a little more grease to stop any rattles, seems to be fine almost a year later

RooTBeer, you're right, I'm surprised I didn't think of that sooner. Was this what you had in mind?

All good ideas. I'll work on the gauge pods and cubby pods. If anyone wants to work on a design feel free
pm NRW or sigmafour for some reason I thought they had something in the works awhile back.. not sure what happened
-
vent gauge pods are sold on here used for between 60-80$, they used to be sold for $80 new- would have to dig up emails to find the kid again. but they get sold almost instantly here
-
gauge pods- vent on top dash- vent on dash between cluster and door panel- a-pillars- cubby pods-
dare I say Double Din??
I would put deposits down on some sort of vent pod and Double Din- Im sure Im not alone

I had a wrx that ran that exact time.. I cant imagine the raw off the line power you get outta that beast.. and seem to be starting quite a trend

I don't mean to contribute to threadjacking, but aren't these reasons, why the EJ20 guys run fuel rails and lines? I think it was cyl #3 back then, correct me if Im wrong, that would lean out with higher than factory boost?
-
hmmm.. interested.. and semi local.. pm me for details on this thing

I have one that sounds like it coming from my vent gauge cluster. but it ony happens when I'm moving. And the faster the car travels the louder it gets. Definitely coming front the front left of the dash. Any suggestions?
I think this was covered in another thread, but Im not sure. If you remove the drivers side panel cover, there is a plastic clip holding the dash that people have had to do some "mods" to tighten the dash and stop the noise.
It happens on mine sometimes, was worse before I took some stuff off to install boost gauge, now I dont hear it as much

well with jeeps if it isnt leaking, its because its already leaked out.. Ive owned my fair share..
