  1. Well, I finally got around to checking this out tonight. I have no idea if I fixed anything, but we'll see over the next couple days. It was getting pretty bad, happening frequently, but oddly, the horn trick NEVER failed.

Pulled the airbag cover off again today and the wire bundle for the controls was sharply bent and pressing against the back of the airbags. Possibly a kink in the wiring was causing it. I re-set the wires so they wouldn't be pinched and had a better arc and tested everything. Seemed to be working fine so far, so I'll keep driving and hope that it took care of the problem. If the problem persists, I'll check the wiring more carefully where it was pinched. I didn't want to pull any of the sheathing yet though. I'll try to remember to update.

  2. If it was a wire in the wheel that might be loose, the horn might have done it. If it's a wire between the radio and the harness, the horn should have no effect since the horn and the controls both run through roll connectors. I think it might have been a wire in the wheel itself. Which is odd, but who knows. I've disassembled the car enough to know what I have to do if it ever happens again. :)
  3. Actually this is caused by a loose connection, actually wires just BARELY touching. The resistance is higher at the mute, then volume, so if you have a loose connection (but still touching) what will happen is you will lose mute, then volume, then seek, and last mode, as the connection loosens.

This happened to me, and caused me to change the directions to make the connection more secure on the radio side.

you may never have trouble again, and I wouldn't worry about it if it works fine for several days in a row.

I know what you mean, about not having them, I still don't know why they don't offer this as an option... :iam:

How do you explain honking the horn and then having everything work. It was literally immediately after honking the horn that it began working. I think I tapped the airbag cover shortly before they stopped working. If it happens again, I might be more likely to pull the airbag first and check for loose connections on the wheel itself.

  4. I had my first weird issue with the controls tonight. I picked up the car from the dealer after it sitting there for a week while they fixed the radiator fan issue.

Jumped in and turned up the volume with the controls. About 5 miles later down the road, volume wouldn't go up, and mute didn't work, but every other button did. :icon_conf

So it wasn't a loose wire issue. Turned the radio off and back on, and the volume up started working, but not the mute button. Turned the car off and back on, no change. Finally, honking the horn made everything work again. No further issues since. A little strange.

BTW ... I still absolutely LOVE my steering wheel controls! Took me about a week to get used to them, but now I can't imagine NOT having them. :)

Thanks to Trabbic for figuring this one out.

  5. Ok, got a few to add.

Thursday evening about 5:30 pm on Bush Lake Road in Bloomington, just south of Bush Lake. ABP LGT Sedan crested the hill by the intersection just south of Bush Lake - I was heading toward the other direction, didn't even have time to wave.

Tonight about 6:30? pm on Weaver Lake Road in Maple Grove heading west, right in front of Applebees. Beautiful Garnet Red LGT Sedan. ;) I have heard a rumor that you might work at Medica in Plymouth.

    Anyone?

  6. Acutally I saw the mysterious ABP sedan on Prarie Center Drive at 7:45 am headed toward 212. Perhaps there are other Leggies in the EP area that we aren't aware of Pillboy. Couldn't see exactly who was in the vehicle, but it was definitely a man. I just assumed it was you! :iam:

I may have seen the same vehicle about 5 weeks ago. I saw an ABP Sedan on Baker ... that's VERY close to where you were describing. Also driven by a man.

    ???

  7. I don't know Kimmi saw, but it wasn't me. I took it to Bloomington Subaru Tuesday afternoon about 5:30 and it was there until Wednesday night when I came home about 10:00. They installed splash guards and removed the door ding the car acquired while it was on there lot. They didn't fix my rear door weather stripping...ordered the part. I think the door glass is out of adjustment, so I may just have a body shop look at it on my own dime. Brady...no badges gone yet...at least by me. I had to go out to the garage and look..."Subaru", "Legacy", and "GT"...is there supposed to be a "2.5"? Car was delivered to the dealer March of '05...was there a running change in badging?

Crazy! Yeah, I bought my Legacy in March of '05 with a September '04 build date. My car had badges that said "SUBARU", "LEGACY" and "2.5 GT" on the back.

    Interesting if they changed it.

  8. Yes, it was great meeting everyone! I know we all felt a difference in temp from when we got there and when we left. Did anyone else notice the 8-10 degree difference reported on the car's outside temp reading?!

So our next meet has to be warmer out so we can actually take a little more time to see what's been done to cars. Maybe a picnic in a couple months. :)

  9. At lunch today, got Coffee at the Caribou on Old Shakopee and France. As I walk out to my car, there is another Red LGT Sedan parked next to mine and a very attractive brunette admiring my freshly washed car!

She's not a member, but she loves her '05 GRP LGT LTD 5EAT. I invited her to the site, but I don't think from our conversation that she'll join. But I do at least hope to see her around again.

  10. I saw another OBXT (white) today, on Tonkawood Rd. in Minnetonka. It appeared to be brand new (it had those cardboard dealer plate thingies). I'm starting to think it's not worth reporting XT's here, since there are probably a lot of non-enthusiasts driving them. I'll still report the '05+ OB sedans though, since they are a rare breed.

I almost never see LGT's. I haven't seen one on the road for three months.

Same here. I did actually see a White LGT heading north on 494 near Hwy 55 this morning though about 7:15 am. First one I'd seen in a while.

  11. So you are saying having tinted windows or rims isn't being modded.

I wouldn't call tint a "mod" so much. Too many fat old men and old women tint the hell out of their car simply for the anti-sauna effect. I don't think twice if I see a car with or without tint. It means nothing to me.

Wheels I would call a real mod, but it's not something required to be on the car for it to be modded. My point is that what most people around here do for mods don't stick out too much. DP, UP, maybe exhaust, AP. Things that are owned by real enthusiasts, but not necessarily visual mods. Don't see too many Legacies with Body Kits and Windshield Banners. Every time I see an LGT, I wonder if they're on the site. LGT enthusiasts don't fit a stereotype of the average Sport Compact mold.

Actually, the first thing I look for as a hint is disabled DRLs. Then other little bits. It's not the big stuff that gives away an enthusiast, but the little things. :)

  12. I haven't been seen yet. I have seen a couple white ones and a red one and a silver one. none looked modified so I doubt they are here. All in the schaumburg area. Oh yeah and one at my work regal blue just like mine. kind of pisses me off. haven't seen that color yet other then the guy at my work. oh well i got the spoiler and they don't

    What?!

That is the goofiest logic I've heard in a while. I think that many of us LGT owners would fall into the category of "subtle" mods, or mod our cars to be real sleepers. You wouldn't know from looking at my car that it's modded unless you knew enough about the car to notice the blacked out headlights. That's it. Nothing else on the exterior is a giveaway. I am partially debadged but will almost certainly leave "LEGACY" on the trunk still because every time I see an A4 that is fully debadged (and other cars) it sticks out like a sore thumb to me that the owner is some kind of enthusiast. To me, leaving some badging on makes it look more stock. :D

Furthermore, as noted in this very thread, you just never know. I spotted Kimmi GT a month or two ago and figured she wasn't a member because in 4 miles of driving next to each other, she never seemed to notice my car. Turns out she was just in her own world at the time being Friday afternoon and all. I wouldn't have known her car was modded if I didn't see here that she has an AP. Only other clue on her car is a "Boxer Powered" license plate frame. I wouldn't call that cosmetically modified.
