  1. On the 16 pin navi screen connector (i90), where do pin 4 & 5 go?

    well on a '08 it's called i119 (16-pin) and i120 (20-pin).

pin 4 (br Y) goes to backup light system (basically an input so the system knows you're in reverse, not really needed unless you have a camera)

pin 5 (GY) goes to ignition ... I think i took the signal from the clock connector i59 pin-8

If you like, I can send you a better scan of my drawing .. pm me your email address

  2. Just installed a cheap ebay reverse camera and ran the wiring to the screen. Got the camera that had the video cable that also had the extra signal wire built in so that the reverse signal could also be run at the same time. It Works!

How much would you charge to do the same on my car

Never really thought about anything like that. I can definitely help by giving you all the information you need. Most of my help came from AkumaMax and SVX so they'd be the guys to hit up for a true plug and play setup cos mine really isnt unless you wanna do a bit of wire stripping and soldering or use wire taps.

Hopefully, my wiring diagram will help someone in the future. Still working on putting it on autocad

  3. Got a bug up my ass today and installed it all this evening. Once I got going, I just kept going and about 4 hrs later, I was driving around the neighborhood! Turns out the player had the '06 nav DVD in there, so happy ... but I'd want to get the latest version eventually.

No pics of the install process; sorry, but I'll take a couple pics of the areas i think were important when I get back to it to install the reverse camera (I've coiled up the signal wire and tucked it up for now).

Notes from install that could hopefully help someone in the future...

Tagged most of the wires on each end with a label maker so I didn't have to keep going back to my diagram unless I really had to; this really helped things go smoothly as I could easily look at any wire end and know exactly what it was and where it went without having to re-trace it back to the connector.

Right now, its all hardwired to each respective point that needed to be tapped into; exception is I used a 4-place connector from Radioshack in the wire run to the cluster ... just in case i had to pull the harness off if it didnt work the first time around. It also made twisting the two data wires together easier.

All the terminations were done by carefully stripping about a half inch of the wire, and then twisting on, and soldering the new wires. Only issue with this method was I couldn't use shrink tube; good quality electrical tape did the trick! First time was a charm and everything worked flawlessly thanks to the diagram I had made before I started by combining all the information I had collected from Akuma and SVX ... you guys rock!

Getting the cluster out was a ROYAL P.I.T.A!!! I've done my share of p.i.t.a. installs so it didn't phaze me there lol ... a long extension with a screwdriver bit and a ton of cussing worked on the two lower screws.

The 20-pin navi connector to i88 wires were easy with .040 female connectors on each end snapping into place in the empty locations as needed.

Mounted the GPS antenna in the stock location behind the cluster by bolting on a metal braket I had lying around and sticking on the magnetic antenna.

Four bolts and flipped the driver seat back and had ample room to work. Mounted the DVD player using one stock mount on the inside and about a 5 inch length of 1" wide flat steel stock on the other side to make a bracket I didn't get with the kit (clearance hole on one end, and a threaded hole on the other and a slight step up bend); pics really would help here lol.

Main changes/cleaning up I'd do as I get time would be to put a 6-place Radioshack connector on the wires going to the radio harness and a single connector that goes to the ignition signal on the clock connector. Then, the harness would be truly removable and easy to integrate into another car in the future ... just not with stock connectors, but Radioshack is never far away!

When I get the time, I'll put my wiring diagram on AutoCAD so it'll help future nut-jobs like us!

  4. Was able to route the harness from under the driver seat to the center console tonight. Need to make a braket for one side of the dvd player to mount. Then ill start looking into mounting everything and making the final connections. Small steps... may do some taps (peel back and solder the wires in place, no taps or cuts) into the radio harness and use a 6place radioshask connector for those signals and a 4-pin connector for the i10 signals. It'll be kinda plug and play for mine but not directly plug and play for another car, lol ... or if I feel like waiting a few days once I get everthing mounted/routed i'll get the radio forward/reverse harness from svx and the i10 forward/reverse if its also available ... whered you guys get your i10 connectors?
  5. hopefully, will get some time to work on it tonight. It's the wife's daily and she gets home from work late every day and I just can't seem to get a time to work on the damn thing. She's not working tonight, but she's working the weekend, so I'm not gonna be able to do anything this weekend either! I may run the part of the harness that I have built tonight, so that the rest would be smaller connections I can do when I get small windows of opportunity ... she can't drive my car; Manual V8 Camaro
  6. Started crimping ends and made the required 16-pin and 20-pin sockets to plug into the NAVI screen. I just left about 6" of wire on each terminal wire so I can now start laying everything out and connecting the dots! The only wire I need to go looking for is the reverse signal (do I even need it?) ... however, I plan to install a reverse camera on the Molex connector too if I feel froggy, so I'll need it anyways.

Also, am getting the correct NAVI antenna sent from the seller on Amazon and will get a shipping ticket to send the wrong item they sent me first.

  7. Thanks for the awesome reply.

As far as the radio plugs, the 14-pi radio plug uses a large pins (.070?) while all the others seem to use the standard smaller pins (.040?). I did get the antenna from E-bay and the connector was slightly different. Mine looks exactly like your pics while the unit that was sent through Amazon had two extra tabs that I had to grind down to fit ... I will be submitting feedback 'cos it was a misrepresentation.

Also yeah, from all the wiring diagrams I've gone over, I've only been able to find the IGNITION connection from the clock connector ... and I've got the required wire, so lucky!!!

  8. Lol I'm such a nerd. I've got.it all laid out so I can take my time and do the harness off the car. I'll have to tap into the i10 connector and radio harness, and find a reverse signal; which i'll use standard electronics connectors from radioshack so i can easily unplug if i ever want to take it off, but everything else should be plug and play OEM style!

Is the OP connector plugged in somewhere or is it just hanging out secured? Seems like that's the way to go to avoid having to tap into too many harnesses. Also where/what's the i88 connector?

  10. Thanks. I'll try using the sat harness on the screen and see if it turns on ... although I think I did plug it in like you said and the screen didn't come on ... it was hot and humid outside, so I really was not concentrating. Hope the stuff actually works, else I'm gonna have to argue with the seller...
  11. Gonna start putting stuff together for my oem NAV setup ... decided to keep going until its either installed or someone bites and buys it ... lol. When I get everything installed for the final time, I'm no longer looking to sell haha.

This is gonna be a slow process 'cos I'm juggling between work/home/other car projects...

    Here's what I'm starting with
