I think it was purely an aesthetic decision. The Legacy is more conservative than the WRX/STI, and is designed for an older crowd, the scoop reflects that.

I think the GS unit will likely be the full width of the splitter, meaning that the whole section in the red box above will be directly over the IC. You can only do so much with the space available.

 

I'm really excited to see what GS comes up with and what results people can get out of it, but at the end of the day I'm concerned with how small our actual hood scoop is compared to the STI/WRX. It seems like that's the ultimate limiting factor.

Aren't the intake manifolds the same on the LGT and 08+ WRX?

 

That was my point, and why they are designing the 08+WRX/LGT fitment, because it is different from the STI manifold.

^Isn't that the whole point of the 08+WRX/LGT fitment (intake manifold)? GS seems to have made it pretty clear that they intend for it to work with the sti, as well as 08wrx/lgt flange compressor outlets, much like the process west by switching silicone hoses.

I was under the impression that it would bolt right in mechanically, and that these were only electrical/wiring differences. Thanks for the info!

 

I'm nowhere close to exceeding the capacity of my vlsd, so I'm not too concerned at the moment, but like to know my options. I'm currently just planning on swapping in the sti helical front lsd once my clutch starts slipping badly.

^Why will the sti center diff not fit in the specb 6mt?

I think I'm going to put my entire build on hold for this. Better than paying for a dyno tune on an inferior tmic, since I don't want to go fmic, not yet anyway.

 

I'll just do what I always do and fiddle with brakes and suspension on my slow car until then.

I'm a long time road rider, but been getting back into MTB the last year or so. Kinda curious what pedals most of you guys are using, platforms, or clip-ins?

 

I've only used platforms on the MTB but am very used to clip-ins on the road, any advice?

Nice! That should be a pretty comfy setup.

Whenever I see an LGT with a CAI and CBE and no other power mods I get suspicious about how much the owner knows about/is able to take care of his car.

I remember reading somewhere that the newer sti's have the same MC as the vdc legacies, and that only the booster was different, as opposed to the '04-'07 sti's 1-1/16" MC.

 

Not sure if that's correct, but if it is then the vdc people may want to just swap the sti booster for a better pedal feel, not having to deal with the different sized fittings on the MC.

You need more line pressure to decrease the clutch pack wear during shifts, which a VB will do. I would also think the driveability of that tune wouldn't be the best.

If the SS zip ties look clean I'd choose that option. I've never seen the zip ties you're talking about.

^It is a great mod, but don't forget, although the bore of the sti mc is larger, the sti bb also helps as well.

This guy used oak for the crossbars and poplar to create rails. Pretty sweet idea.

Wow, that's actually way cooler than I was expecting. It's gotta be more work to keep the wood nice, but that's a pretty cool unique look. It really suits the style of that 325.

Wood? What type of wood?

Not a Legacy, but here's my wagon roof rack. The only thing that bothers me is that 48" crossbars are longer than necessary, but there isn't a shorter option. The bars poke a little from the railgrabs.

 

A hack saw should fix that. Nice wagon!

The I.D. of the VDC lines is the same. The flares on the lines are double flares.

 

Installing on a VDC car doesn't seem too hard. Just get two adapter fittings, shorten a line, and re-flare the end. Everything else should be the same.

I've been wanting to swap in the lgt rack. Let us know what your impressions are when it's done.
