I got the same problem everyone else had on my 2008 Legacy. After trying everything from smacking the dash, shutting the car off and on, reseating fuses and the rest, I decided to disconnect the battery to reset the computer (a step several posts said didn't work). I left the battery disconnected for 2 hours. After reconnecting the battery, all systems are GO !!!!
