  1. Just installed a set of the 65W H7s bought from suvlights.com (they were about $40 before tax and shipping). I have noticed that they are brighter and a higher color temperature than the stock H7s and my previous European Silverstars. For me, I think they offer more bang for the buck than the Silverstars -- with those, I really didn't notice a difference over the stock H7s.
  2. Santa Ramen is famous for their long lines...and running out of noodle if you get there too late....It is supposed to be VERY GOOD...but like I said every time I get there it is either a 1 hr wait or noodles ran out. I would definitely take you up on the offer if I am going to be in the area again.

Santa Ramen is very good. About as close as you can get to real Japanese ramen on this side of the Pacific. It's a hole in the wall with a menu that focuses just on ramen. And the lines are very long.

If Santa is closed or too crowded, Himawari on 2nd ave is not too bad. A little more fancy decor, broader menu but the ramen (actually more the noodles) are not as good.

There's also another place that opened up near Suruki market on 4th that seems to be getting some foot traffic -- but I haven't had the chance to eat there.

I suspected it had to be a fellow LGT.com member too. This is actually my first time being spotted after having owner my LGT for almost two years!

Very nice pics! It gives me some idea of what I would like to get when it's time to upgrade the wheels. What brand and size tire do you have on those 18s?

So you also did a suspension mod as well?

  4. The only thing I noticed is that there is some loss in volume output. It still plays LOUD when you want it too, but it is less loud at a specific volume (20 for example) than it used to be.

How are you getting your audio signal from your iPod? Are you simply going off the headphone jack (couldn't tell from your photo). The line-out audio from the dock connector on the bottom is of higher quality and higher level and is the source you really should be using. The iTrip, IIRC, get's it's audio from the headphone jack.

  5. I wonder if everyone with a ground loop problem is running their audio signal wires next to power wires? That would explain a lot of humming or/and engine noise coming though the speakers. If signal and power wires have to intersect, it must be at a 90 degree angle. Never run the two types of wires in parallel.

No ground loop problem with my setup even though I ran the audio cable along the power line. And I am charging my iPod using the accessory outlet in the cubby.

  6. Also where's everyone putting their cables? When I find a small mini-jack I was going to try to find a place to put it inside the center consol.

I ran a single 6' cable from the back of the HU, down the under the ashtray, along the shift selector and under the center box. I drilled a hole in the storage compartment, cut a small hole in the mat and ran the cord up that way. I also zip-tied the cable along the power cable that runs under the center box.

  7. Yes, I have my iPod connected to a Belkin Auto Kit which is plugged into the 12V outlet in the storage cubby. I simply drilled a hole through the bottom of the cubby, cut a hole in the carpet and ran the mini-jack cable up to the Auto Kit. I also zip-tied the cable to existing cables under the center console box.

I prefer this set up because it allows me to store both the iPod, Auto Kit and cables out of sight in the cubby.

  8. Just installed the Aux-in this afternoon. All I can say is AWESOME! Clean, CD-quality sound flowing through my Legacy GT. No noise, no FM limited dynamic range, no ground loop.

Just a few comments from the installation:

I managed to get that over torqued screw with the subwoofer ground off the bracket. It took several tries and I nearly stripped the screw, but I managed to get it out. For those who might have the same problem, I found that removing all the screws except the problematic one and then rocking the bracket around that screw helped.

I was worried about leaving the board floating, but after putting it all together, I felt that between the tension of the ribbon cable and the mini-stereo jack, there was enough strain relief.

I covered the front of the headunit with painter's tape to prevent scratches. That made it a lot easier to work with since I could turn the HU on it's face to access the rear screws.

A 6' mini headphone jack cord was enough to route all the way from the headunit to the center storage console under the armrest.

Following Craig's advice, I applied medical cloth tape to the plastic parts on the center console to minimize rubbing and squeaking.

  9. IThere was a ground wire connected to one of the bracket screws on my radio. The screw would not come out, I ended up stripping it. I just clipped the wire and then connected it to a different bracket screw upon reinstallation. Not being able to remove that screw meant I had to bend the bracket to clear the top cover on the radio. Not a show stopper, just a speedbump along the way.

Oh-oh. I think I might have that problem too. I noticed that ground wire too back when I installed my FM modulator, but I was able to work around it. I tried removing it then and remember that the screw wouldn't budge.

I'm not sure why some vehicles have it and others don't.

  10. Got home yesterday and mine had arrived.

Very nice job with the whole packaging and instructions. I was pleasantly surprised at the effort you put into making this happen. Thanks again!

I'll probably install the board this weekend. I'm also going to be ditching my FM modulator. Will let you know how it goes!
