  1. The changed the resistor on the solenoid to trick it into thinking TCU is calling for more line pressure ?

Also, do these mods in anyway increase the hp or torque holding ability ?

My VB was supposed to be installed 23rd, but if your mod becomes available before than, then I am up for going through you method.

  2. I don't think anyone who already has a IPT VB mod, will post here just to say, no they wont do it again. So I have a feeling you'll get mostly and only the ones that are willing.

But I figured you are looking for interest before investing time and money. BTW, if nothing you are doing the whole community a great service simply by enlightening us as to what IPT service is really worth.

I just got my VB done, and its not even installed. However given that it was a 1 day turn around, it seems its a simple modification or they have it down pat after all these years.

One final question with your goals of the quicker shifting, does it in any way increase the power/torque threshold on the 5EAT. For that matter does IPT VB mod. ? I think great many ppl on this boards seem to believe they do, and not sure given the "mystical" nature of the 5EAT if it ever been actually proven.

"MAYBE" in the near future, DEFINITELY if I can sell the brand new never installed IPT VB right now.

  3. It is a Lilliput 669GL (monitor only)

With 3M microtouch capacitive glass overlay. (its a simple usb device)

    Running a netbook:auto power management

when car is on, its runs off car power and never goes to sleep.

when car is shut off, 12v is off, and reverts to battery mode, and goes to win7 hybrid sleep after 5 minutes. This netbook can stay in hybrid sleep for 2 weeks on internal battery.

I touch the screen to wake from sleep, back up and running under 10 seconds.

    Centrafuse 3.1 front end

GMPC, with centrafuse plug-in for OSD keyboard.

Here is mine I built 3 months ago

The touch screen is capacitive so its hard glass.

  5. I looked at that midnight tab, let me know how it works out.

Looks like it has GPS, but was wary of the "Slide me" app store ?

You can always tether your phone as wifi hot spot, and have network access, so as long as you can get Google Navigator to work, and Pandora, and Torque, I think for most of us, that is like 80% of what we need.

If it checks out, and you can run all of the above, Ill jump on that too.

Grumbles at losing reverse cam though. (Though I am working on cheap composite to IP video box, testing it works, but its not automatic of the reverse wire )

  6. I did the wole CARPC route as well.

And total cost was near 1000 dollars.

    Crappy netbook was 200

    LED LCD screen 200

    wires etc.....100

    back up cam 200

    software and peripherals 100

    GPS w/ software 100

    additional labor 100 ish

I got a GPS, backup cam, capacitive screen.

Would I choose to do a galaxy tab, if I had to do it again, most likely.

Id trade my current setup for a galaxy tab right now. And if you are upto it, you can always fabricate the bezel to hard mount it into the cubby. I am exploring that right now.

  7. I haven't had a problem leaving the cable plugged in, but then I drive my car everyday. I also leave my Openport 2 plugged in and have left the car for 3+ days and had no problem. The OP2 uses more power than the VAG-COM in comparison.

Thanks, hard wiring it in, and wanted to make sure it wasn't going to cause a problem. Much obliged.

  8. Related question....

    Using SSM, lumberjack and treehugger,

Is it bad to have the vag-com cable plugged in permanently/all the time ?

I know the little blue light stay on, after I shut the car off, other than just draining the battery, any other ill effects ?

    Thanks

  9. Thanks man, I am still kind of confused between treehugger and lumber jack.

Does this work with Centrafuse 3.1 ?

    Any links to Treehugger ?

I have a 05 will a vag-com cable work, or will I need to get a full tactrix cable.

    again , much appriciated

  10. I am going to be using centrafuse as frontend, anyone know any good digital gauges or plug in that work with our cars and vag-com cable to display engine info, and or datalog ?

    Thanks

    jay

  11. Well so far my solution remains pretty much the same.

Touch screen is USB HID device capable of waking up the PC.

I am going to test this part out....but I am trying this external laptop power supply

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Portable-Power-Station-External-Laptop-Battery-20000mAh-/130379953429?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Laptop_Batteries&hash=item1e5b403515

power on with usb, (i like it that way) if I am doing a short drive or dont need to turn on the comp it stays off.......Ignition off, battery will still power the PC, set to win7 sleep after 30 minutes of non use.

20000mAh should be sufficient to power it in sleep for weeks. Note most laptop batteries are 4400mAh

  12. The EEEBox that I'm looking at is: 9" x 7" x 1"

I believe that will fit in the upper compartment.. you know where the owners manaul goes? I have to check.

    edit: just checked... the comparment is 9.25" x 5" x 2"

Don't think it'll fit.. ugh.. gotta figure somethin out.

Hey Nemo, pull out the cubby. That should open up the whole back....and allow open air flow.

What box are you looking at. The one I am looking at now is

    7.48" x 5.31" x 0.98"

    P.S. 914 area ? where u at ?

  13. Arrggggg, I feel your pain guys......

I just realized that my netbook wont fit in the glovebox.

It barely fits, but not if I want to have anythings plugged in.

    Back to the drawing board.

  14. Nemo, it will most likely go easier 2nd time around. New technology come a long way, making things smaller, use lesser power, quicker boot up, etc....

Having done it once, you already know all the ins and outs doing the install.

    Good luck though

  15. I went with the cheap one as well, 7" 1080p, LED LCD, under 170 shipped is pretty good to start. I did not get the touch screen, I have heard some good results from people doing the capacitive TS mod. The screen overlay is glass like vs hazy film of the resistive. This alone with good angle during install should make for usable TS even in mild sun. Its start, and I didn't want to ruin a ~600 LCD on my first attempt at capacitive.

Rest of the build is super simple; used netbook + win7 + centrafuse + GMPC. No special power supply or on/off mod. Win7 sleep mode is awesome for this in the power management tab. Netbook when powered is on, when ignition is off, no power, reverts to battery. Battery mode set to sleep mode after 5 minutes. Capacitive TS is driven by USB HID drivers so it can be set to wake netbook from sleep. So i just tap the TS few times, and its back up in no time.

I went with a cheap Lilliput 7" to start with just to see if I wanted to "commit". While it is quite usable in most situations, if the sun is at my back and low in the sky, it's pretty much useless.

I would not buy another screen for car installation unless it were transflective, but I am not in a hurry to replace the one I have. If I were moving from Chicago back to Arizona, SoCal, Vegas etc I would probably replace it then. Not sure if that helps :)

  16. hmmm dilemma

Maybe ill try to find one with just transflective, but maybe not bonded.

    Suggestions welcome.....

    $200 for 7" DVI-D/HDMI 1080p isn't so bad.

    Thanks guys.

  17. I just dropped a cheap nettop into to my car, and looking for a touch screen.

Not asking for models and such but, wanted to ask about options.

Does transflective make a huge difference ? , same with optical bonding.

    http://www.mo-co-so.com/7-Transflective-Optically-Bonded-Lilliput-669GL-p/mcs-lil-669-tfe-3.htm

    vs

    http://www.mo-co-so.com/Lilliput-669GL-70NP-C-T-7-Touch-Screen-Monitor-p/mcs-lil-669.htm

is like $400 dollars difference for the same model.

Just wondering if its worth the upgrade/money for the better visibility.

    thanks
