tried to do it last weekend, couldnt get the grille off and it was too cold to continue messing around with it. Im going to try it again this friday when it should be warmer, i'm off work, and the gf won't be around to freak out when i put my headlights in the oven.
-
Why would it cost so much? At &t unlimited data for around $30 and the the PDA tether plan is @$60. I have a modded HTC phone and it tethers fine. I just have to get started on this carPC.
i have no need for a smartphone w/ data plan. so the extra $30-50/mo whatever verizon charges wouldnt be worth it for the occasional roadtrip.
I'm assuming if i put in a wireless card though i can tether off wi-fi spots like at rest stops and stuff?
i should really make a thread with all my questions some day.
-
ok cool, thanks. just trying to figure it all out before i decide i want to start buying the parts for one.
-
^ aircard or tethering thru your cell phone.
ah so if i want undisturbed internet access i need a phone with an unlimited data plan or its gonna cost me $100000

how does the internet connection work on a carPC?
i take long-distance trips (400+miles) a few times a year with the gf and curious if she could surf the internet or i could play an online comp game during the trip.

I'm telling ya, something like a "Families First" logo, or "My kid got an A and Whatever School" bumper sticker, along with my brilliant 'Baby on Board' yellow diamond sticker.
The stick figure family sticker, with added stick figure puppy also scores major sleeper points.
Couple the above with a wagon, debadged of "2.5GT" emblems, and you have the best sleeper money can buy.
Just don't tint the windows too heavily. 35% is the most.
or just do 1-man stick figure + 7 cats, i'd never expect a race from a crazy cat lady/man

LED tailpipe, huge aluminum wing, mirror tinted windows.
you'll be getting more teenagers revving at you than you'll know what to do with

has anyone installed this piece themselves? I'm out of warranty but would like to fix the gap.
-
lol, i wonder how much extra effort and time it takes to type in thug font
-
so i should pick up a tube of silicone just in case and make the judgement myself when their open
-
and how many applied new sealant when resealing them? Or is there plenty of it already on there that they'll seal back together without issues?

Is your console as bad as the pictures? I honestly didn't notice it until I stumbled on this thread thinking they were talking about the left and right silver dash pieces coming loose from the console (which is what is wrong with mine). Also, can you post back the outcome after your appointment? I will probably be at my dealership late next week for accessory installs so I was just going to ask them about the console then.
yes mine is very noticeable but it was just something i forced myself to just accept. I had no idea it was common until i found this thread this morning.
-
Someone else will probably chime in but from what I have read on this thread and other posts on the site, it is definitely covered by warranty. I have heard of some dealerships not wanting to do it or not installing the piece correctly so the issue comes back. I know when I told my sales guy about it, he had never heard of this problem. So I called the service deparment and they said the same thing. Hopefully I won't have an issue when I go.
cool, i'll print out the first page of this thread and take it with me to my local dealership. Ive gotta go pick up my oil from there later in the week anyway, i'll just stop and ask about this problem too.
-
was this fixed under warranty for you guys? I'm still within the 3yr/36,000 mile factory one.
If not, how much did it all cost approximately?

i think when i finally get the balls to try this i'm going to put the lamps up on maybe some wood blocks on the cookie sheet just so its not really sitting on hot metal. Even if that probably doesn't effect anything it'll give me a little more peace of mind that they might not melt.
-
Put em on a cookie sheet covered in tin foil. Your headlights will be fine, they're made to stand up to extreme temps, so you don't need to monitor the process, but honestly it scares the shit out of me too, and both times I've cooked mine I've been standing in front of the oven staring at them the whole time
so a chair to sit in front of the oven should be added to the list of materials

you will lose both MPG and speed by removing the intake resonator, and yes, it is a resonator as well
ok, staying stock then
-
Are you talking exhaust resonator? The item being discussed as being detrimental to the vehicles performance is the intake silencer, not a resonator as you call it. If your are referring to the intake silencer, I had mine off for about 2 hours before I decided to put it back on. I could hardly notice any sound difference, and as a result didn't want to chance any negative impact on the vehicle.
intake resonator, i'm not planning to touch the exhaust silencer

i think i'm going to try this on the upcoming weekend.
not gonna lie, this freaks me out though putting my headlights in the oven.
do i put them directly on the rack or lay down some foil or something in there, i dont want "charcoal lines" on my headlights.
is there any chance of the plastic melting? how closely do i need to monitor them in the oven (sit in front of it constantly watching)?
-
removing the resonator may create a more turbulent airflow, but is that minor change really going to effect anything on a basically stock LGT? I can see the reasoning behind wanting perfect airflow on a custom-built F1 car, but something that it's main purpose is to commute back and forth to work how bad would it really be?
Am i going to lose 5-10mpg or get detonation in the engine? Am i going to lose .5sec off the 1/4mile? How damaging is it to have MAF sensor spikes, i know it's a little unsettling, but is it really doing anything bad?

Ill get it fixed up by this weekend for you guys... I was on vacation and have been busy with looking for a job but I will make a point to get it done by then...
thanks

There were some complications (thanks jedi) and it was removed.... Ill figure something out...
any update on getting those installs back?
