  1. I agree with jMeG.

A properly maintained polished / waxed paint will stay shinny for a long time. There is also nothing worse than putting a cover on a dirty car (I doubt your are going to dust off the cover and wipe the paint everyday)

I would go get it detailed and ceramic coated and call it a day vs dealing with a cover and creating more damage.

For interior, get the windows tinted and use a proper sunshade.

  2. Electric cars are around the corner and you guys are all talking about Manual transmission, LOL. Not going to happen, period.

Now if these were some high-end exclusive cars like, say Porsche 911 GT3, then bring the manual campaign would work, just as it did with the GT3.

Even if there was to be a manual Legacy, then people would b-itch about it not being a wagon, then not naturally aspired blah blah blah. There is always an excuse when it comes to justifying not buying a car.

Folks should be glad that there are still some cars in Subaru's line up that are manuals. Go buy those while you can.

  3. I can understand not knowing that the SHO existed as they are pretty subdued unless you know what you're looking at.

But not to realize that the Taurus was a current model? Do you live in a cave somewhere? You dont notice cop cars or these big Ford sedans on the street?

I live in a cave called land of Amazon, Starbucks, Microsoft, Costco and that one company that makes airplanes. You are lucky if you see any domestic cars around here.

Our police cars are mostly Explorers but I am sure there are some Tauruses in there too. I just have not seen anyone actually owning one.

And now that I looked up what they look like, I had one as a rental couple of years ago. Good to see that they are still around especially the SHO. I had a brand new one in 1996 and loved it.

  4. Op's question is valid and I am definitely one of those who would look at how fast the car is and that is without getting into too many details. Is it a 4 sec car or a 7 sec car like the Legacy.... Usually, mostly out of curiosity.

PS: I had no idea Ford still made the Taurus yet alone the SHO, LoL, good times.

  5. I guess it's worth mentioning the difference between a reflex reflector and a side marker.

Side markers are the actual lights that emit to the side of the vehicle. A front and rear side marker is required under federal law. The front ones must be amber, and the rear ones must be red. (FMVSS 108 Table I-a)

The reflex reflectors are the plastic lenses that reflect light rather than emit them. Typically, you'll see a side marker integrated with the reflex reflector in some way or another. That's the case with our headlamps.

In the US, both the front side marker and front reflex reflector need to be amber in color. The law you quoted is a more generic way of aligning with federal standards - headlamps obviously cannot output blue or red light and such. The front lights must only have white, yellow, or amber colors. It doesn't mean that the side marker can be white - it still needs to comply with federal standards too which require an amber color for side marker.

Just want to note - I don't mean to be rude or a dick or anything. I work in automotive lighting and like to put my somewhat specific knowledge to good use when I can. Also doesn't mean I agree with the laws or think people shouldn't retrofit headlamps or anything like that.

Great information, you have provided there.

I have 2 questions since you are in the business:

-Why are US / Canada are the only countries in the world that require amber markers (I know couple of others prefer but not require like S. Korea)

-Why are we the only ones that allow rear red turn signals?

We were also the last country that pushed sealed beam headlights into the cars well into 2000s. My personal opinion is that when it comes to lightning, US is way behind with its old fashioned laws. They just need to be revisited.

Over the years, I have spent bunch of $$$$ swapping out red turn signals for amber ones and installing ROW headlights on to my cars which by the way have a much better light pattern.

If I kept my Legacy, one of my plans was to install a JDM spec headlights.

I hope the OP makes this happen. It should be an easy mod.

  6. So I'll probably be buying one.... (FACE PALM). Who else is with me...? Haha.

You need to stop buying the same car over and over again. You know this is a game you are not going to win. :)

All of these changes should of been implemented 10 years ago.

    And FINALLY led DRLs!!!!!!!

  7. Here is the next challenge!

Next Challenge: Airport Challenge!!!! Post a picture of your 6th Gen Legacy at either departures (drop off) or arrivals (pick up) driveway of an airport.

  8. The SD card has the nav maps and info.

The Premium does not have the HK amp interface. The Limiyed Nav does not work sound wise without the HK amp bits.

The OP will correct me if I am wrong.

    I see.

Do limiteds have SD cards as well? I never bothered to check if there actually was something in there.

Also a link would be useful as far as where to get this SD card with all the map info and updates.

  9. Wow good job but I have couple of questions to clarify it for the others.

-Why do you need a SD card and what exactly does it do in this case?

-I also did not know that Nav was actually an option on premium models. What is the difference between a Premium vs Limited head unit? HK sound system?

    Great job!
