  1. Old post but I finally got a chance to weigh one and it was 28-29lbs.. Disgustingly heavy..
  2. I agree that the only spoiler that looks good is the lip style. Very low key. I don't like the stock lgt spoilers at all. Car looks much cleaner without one imo.
  3. I had some horrible squeaking in mine. I oiled a bunch of it and didn't have much luck. I finally gave up my seat position, repositioned it and it was gone for a while. Now I get a horrible click/squeak, mostly when turning left. I've tried to fix this issue and not having any luck. It's quite annoying and I'll definitely be taking it into the dealer. Not sure what to expect from that trip.
  4. I get most of this knock while in my normal cruising range while in 4th gear. Shift knock as I understand it is more prevalent in aggressive driving where you're rapidly transitioning from a high load/rpm area of the table to an area with considerably different fueling/timing.
  5. I've learned to live with it.. I've spent a fair amount experimenting with reduced timing and adding fuel etc only to go back to my original settings in the end. No matter what I did, it would show knock at loads between .3 and .9 or so at 2400-3000 rpm. I could see a knock sum count of 3 or 4 just backing out of my garage/driveway. A typical 20-30 min trip could show a knock sum in the 30s.. I can almost make it do it at will in that range by applying and releasing the gas pedal. My WOT logs in every gear are always completely clean. I've been debating raising the threshold to somewhere in the .8 to 1 load range.
  6. I've got the DiNovo mini as well as a gyration mini mce kb.. The dinovo is much better for the car where excessive typing is rare for me.
  7. Romraider displays the main guages similar to that, but has a lot more features including min/max values and alarms etc. So that would do me as well as what I have now.. Although at least now if I struggle to view the max values I can tell sort of what it is. I have looked into ssm/lumberjack but unfortunately it doesn't support the openport 2.0 protocol and my car only support the 2.0 protocol. SSM will work fine for the 1.2/1.3 Cables from what I understand.
  8. Yes I understand that but this is still not a mouse that will control your cursor. This is for controlling 3d modeling apps. I do some work for this company, and one of their biggest tech support call drivers is that people buy this expecting it to provide cursor control.
  9. I already use an external input device. I use the logitech dinovo mini. Very nice for control. I could live with just this and not having touch screen, but I cannot live with composite video from the laptop. The laptop output isn't the problem. The problem is the oem nav screen only allows for composite input. You can see pictures of what that looks like above. For large text and video and graphics, composite is fine. Windows menus text, file names, options text etc on the other hand will be completely unreadable. A good example is with romraider gauges. I can see the gauge number very well, but am completely unable to see the min/max values. The screen itself has a decent enough resolution to handle it, but not over composite. It would be the same if you output your laptop to a high end hdtv via composite. It would still look like crap. Unfortunalty the stock screen only allows for composite input so there is not much that can be done short of replacing that screen with one that excepts vga, or adding a vga screen. There is some small chance that the nav unit under seat could be replaced with a pc, and the cables hacked into vga/usb for touch screen and vga input, but it seems unlikely.
  10. Unfortunately this is not a mouse controller. It's a 3d modeling controller for use inside engineering apps. Something like this that worked like a mouse would be pretty ideal if you couldn't get a touch screen.
  11. I already output to composite with my internal video card. That isn't vga quality and it doesn't allow for touchscreen control.
  12. Your whole post kind of comes across as ass-ish really.. Why are you making this seem so hard? Good luck with having money to buy 2 screens? Um okay. A car pc for each screen? Not sure anyone is talking about that.. I installed my laptop car pc into my car in a few hours, and that was with all lines being run under carpet and separated. I spent a couple hours setting the laptop up in the house before install. The only hard part about this imo is if you have to fab in an aftermarket screen into your dash. If there was a double din unit available for my car, it would have a second vga touch screen already, and it wouldn't take weeks of work or any considerable upkeep to maintain.
  13. Simple.. I have the stock Nav unit. The screen itself controls some of the cars options. I don't want to lose that, but I've not found anyway to to get vga input to that screen as it only has the composite aux in. If I could source my carpc in via vga I wouldn't need the second screen. As of now the only option for me to get vga output from my carpc and not lose the oem screen is to add a second screen. Secondly for me at least, I use my carpc mainly for on screen gauge display. It would be nice to be able to see that while also still viewing the nav or watching video on the main display.
  14. I want a dual screen setup also. I want to keep the stock screen in place to set all the cars options, as well as have factory nav and backup cam. I want to add a second vga touchscreen for the carpc/audio/video. No real way to go about the second touchscreen in place of the oem stereo as of now that I can find.. I wish I had thought to make sure an aftermarket double din kit was available prior to purchasing the car.
  15. I wanted to, but so far there doesn't seem to be support for 2.0 cables yet. So far it's been semi installed for a couple weeks. I've had some issues here and there that I've got resolved at this point. I've got Vista on it, but completely stripped of software and services I'm not using. I'm not using hibernate either. The system is set to go to sleep after 5 mins on battery which is after car shuts off. It wakes up with the power button on the remote. So far it's been pretty solid.
  16. Here are a few pics of my setup. I'm mainly using this for data logging/on screen gauges, but having mediacenter with a ton of music, vids, and a tv tuner is a nice bonus. It's hooked up via composite and I'm currently using a Gyration rf airmouse/remote to control it. I have a Logitech Dinovo mini bluetooth keyboard coming though as I want my mediacenter remote back in the house. It sleeps/wakes from sleep with the power button on the remote. It's a gateway laptop (2ghz core duo with 1gb ram 80gb drive, 4 usb ports and bluetooth). I mounted it upside down into the foam piece that used to hold the spare tire down. It's wedged in there very nicely and isn't moving. Stock nav is still in use which is handy since I mostly have romraider running while driving. Cell phone pics looks a bit crappy. While it isn't vga quality, it does look decent via composite on the small screen. I have vista set to display enlarged fonts etc so menus are actually usable.
  17. Had okay luck with laptop harddrives in a few laptops, but would definitely go ssd if I was shopping new.
  18. Like what? It's fairly old technology. Not sure what else it could be..
  19. The idea is to keep the stock screen and ditch the under seat nav so that I can get vga to the stock screen. I feel I need to keep the stock screen as it also controls car options. The under seat nav on the other hand isn't a very big deal and I'm betting the windows nav software is better. As it stands now it's all working fine, but the pc is outputting via composite which pretty much looks like crap on the stock screen.
  20. The more I mess with this, the more I think about just pulling the cable from the nav unit, and hacking it into a vga input. I'm not convinced it will be that simple to get touch screen working with the stock screen and the pc, but I assume the main cable running from the nav to the screen is just vga? It looks like there is a separate cable running to the screen for the touch controls. Just having the pc run with vga vs composite is probably going to be worth it for me. Then I'll just need gps software and a gps antenna for the laptop. I think I will lose out on the voice prompts though unless maybe I'm in aux mode already. Anyway.. has anyone hacked their carpc into the oem screen yet via vga?
  21. I'm in the process of replacing my mediagate with a laptop as well. I don't have any screen solution other than composite for now unfortunately. I've got a perfect laptop for this as it is a 2ghz duo core with 1gb of ram, 4 usb ports and built in bluetooth. It's also got tv out aside from vga so I'll be able to connect it right to the stock nav screen for now. It's got a card reader as well which is ideal for logging and storing logger profiles etc. I've done some testing and it mostly looks like crap. Itunes is too small to read. I'm going to install mediacenter OS (mce2005 or vista ultimate) as it displays largish clear text and is easy to navigate. My other main use will be romraider logger. As it is now, the paramaters aren't easy to see, but once you have what you want slected, the gauges are very readable. Eventually I may replace the stock nav with the laptop only and get a gps antenna, sirius, fm/tv etc for it to replace the stock nav. Not sure I want to hack up the car that much though yet. If we could only get a double din headunit, I would just install it all in place of the stereo and throw and amp in the car for the speakers..
  22. Joe, hope it is alright to Pm this question rather than starting to or adding to any of the many existent oil debate threads.

I recently hit 10k miles in my 08 spec b and decided to switch to synthetic. In most previous cars I've run mobil 1 0w40 without issue. I was unable to find any for this change and settled for mobil 1 5w30.

The guy helping me tune my car has highly recommended I swap out the mobil 1 for either Penzoil Platinum, Rotella or Castrol syntec. Today, I actually mis-shifted a 3rd to 4th and hit 2nd gear. I briefly over-revved my engine to 9100 rpms. Hopefully I didn't break anything, but I'm going to do and oil and filter swap before driving it further.

I'd really love to go with a 5w40 Rotella, and probably will in the summer, but I think it gets too cold here (Western NY). It's been in the single digits already a few times this year.

I know that you're fairly up to date on your oil knowledge, and are the type that can "feel" the difference in the car between various oils. What are you currently running in the LGT? How about the Si? Have you tried and ruled out any brands as of yet? Penzoil Platinum, and Castrol Syntec seem to be the only readily available stocked synthetics in my neighborhood other than mobil 1.

    Thanks for your time.

    jason

  23. How big of a deal is it to swap out the Spec b seats for lgt seats? I assume you would lose the memory seat at the very least?
