I've shared this info before on here, when reaching 'milestones' 181k - blew original engine when timing belt broke - early - before the next interval was due ( mechanic thought the pulley froze - destroying the belt ). Subaru short block, re-did the heads at the best machine shop in Highland, replaced the original clutch while everything was out, and replaced the radiator at the last moment - for G.P. So currently 214k on this motor. 232k - replaced the original 5 speed trans with a used 5 speed purchased in Dutchess County ( the used one had 55k on it when purchased ). So presently 218k on this transmission. There you go. Fixed. Not attempting to hide anything. Just enjoying the longevity of the car and the mileage accumulated.
  2. Pepperoni is the standard. I just can't say enough about this generation of this platform. My 3rd Subaru was a 2005 CWP Legacy GT wagon 5 speed ( likely the best / most enjoyable car I've ever owned < even as much or better than my '07 STI Limited ). I had to cut it loose - it was a car I purchased to use for work as a daily driver - when Katrina hit the gulf and the price of gas skyrocketed - it's days for me for that job were numbered. I've regretted that ever since. And while the 5 speed car I'm checking into now is just another SE - I still enjoy the subtle chassis mods that make it such a nice driving experience - 12 months of the year. Cheers
  3. After nearly 12 years of ownership - by far the longest I've ever held onto a car.

So sure... why not get it to 400k... but a buddy of mine is going to buy my Legacy SE... 395,277 miles... so this coming Saturday I'll run it down to Westchester County and it'll go into his fleet ( school bus operation ). He'll use it to get to shuttle drivers from the office to the yard, run for parts, stuff like that. Selling price that we worked out: $2,000, two slices of pizza and a medium coke. He's known the car since I've had it ( August 2010 - with 28k miles on it ) and he's a multi Subie owner himself - so that's all good and Legacy is going back to work... And I have my eye on an '05 5 speed with 1/3 the miles and the heated seats ( a must in the Adirondack Park ) for not too much $$$... so I've got that to look forward to.
  5. Yes, NA. And as I've mentioned here before, blew the original engine at 181K ( timing belt snapped - early ). New Subaru short block, had the heads done, replaced the original clutch while everything was out of the way, and picked up a new radiator ( GP ).

Back in August of 2011, when the car had roughly 60,000 miles on it, I purchased a 19mm JDM rear sway bar from a guy on the boards here from northern NJ... picked it up from him at his house... hollow tube bar, super light at a hair less than 5 lbs... it was one of my 3 favorite chassis mods on the car. Last week it broke - with the Legacy now at 387k - bar rusted thru on the outboard side of the right side bushing... rats! Rallysport Direct came thru in the clutch, and I had a new, solid, 21mm Cusco bar ( a little beefy at 10.6 lbs., but whatever ) earlier this week. A couple new end links, and we're back in business.   7. Replaced the spark plugs and ignition wires on the Legacy this week (now at 385,751 miles) - as it rests up a bit prior to the winter. Hoping to get some work at Gore Mountain this season - about 20 minutes away. Subaru becomes the daily driver again. In the meantime, using the Speed3 a lot this summer... new RE71R's on the 8" wide Enkei's makes every trip out like a mini track day.

Legacy @ 379,041 miles today Put my RE760 Sports on last week - and the rears ( which I had intended to move up to the front ) were nearly shot (so much for post-removal inspection!)... so they stayed on the back while I figured out my next move. Trying out a set of Firestone Indy 500's... have always loved the Bridgestone product line - the RE's - except for the RE92 - but have enjoyed - mostly on my other cars - various Pole Position models, Blizzacks, and the RE71R's... wow... but the RE760 Sport was a great tire for this particular application, but is no longer available. Bridgestone purchased Firestone some time back - and I"m hoping that some of their technology is shared in house... and while the Indy 500 name is a little cheesy - to me - the tires seem pretty good - and the price was right...

  10. It's not been without it's challenges. Tornado in 2018 bounced a tree off my house and landed on top of the car ( luckily - most of the weight of the tree was on the ground, but she did end up with a couple of small dents on the roof ) but I cut away a few branches and drove it out from underneath. Smacked the hoof of a deer with the leading edge of the hood on the TSP in broad daylight - as it tried to jump out of the way... And just had to replace the original starter a month or so ago @ 365,000 miles ( what a piece of crap, huh? ) I"m looking for Subaru to help me with a new suspension... in exchange for advertising...
  11. Retiring today from daily driver service ( as I end my job of the last 22+ years ). Purchased used in August, 2010 with roughly 28,000 miles Blew the engine ( timing belt - broke early ) @ 181,000 ( sorry - would have to dig for the date ) - picked up new Subaru short block, re-did the heads, thru in a new clutch and a radiator... all work performed at Lank's Automotive, Beacon NY Replaced the transmission @ 232,000 + miles ( sorry - would have to dig for the date ), with a 56,000 mile used unit from Redl's Auto Parts in Poughkeepsie (again, work done at Lank's) Now at 371,235 miles. Likely to be the only kayak hauler this summer in the Adirondacks with a JDM rear bar and Group N trans mount ( among several other nice things ) - and roughly 375,000 miles...

Clipped a deer in broad daylight on the TSP near the Taghkanic State Park... she was in the median and I was in the right hand lane - slowing down - and just inside the commitment point she turned and ran right in front of me... I got all over the brakes, but too late. She bounced off the leading edge of the hood ( she didn't break my new headlight - yeah! ) and I was lucky the crinkle in the hood was the extent of it... she ran off; she'll have a good bruise in the morning I'm sure. Realizing my good fortune, I bought a MegaMillion ticket when I stopped shortly after for gas.

After 8 weeks of non-use ( mostly due to 6.5 weeks of job furlough and being 160 miles to the north ) and sheltered in the garage in Fishkill, I now have it up in the Adirondack Park with me, for the next couple of weeks. I picked up a new Interstate battery and the summer wheels / tires went on. 347,000 + miles
  14. Well, out in front of the house... So far - there's nothing to keep one from heading out for a spin... can't sit down in a restaurant, and bars are closed, but no restrictions about taking a ride.
  15. Thanks. Outside of that sudden engine expiration, this car has enjoyed a relatively uneventful life... almost. May 2018 we had a tornado come thru southern Dutchess County - many, many trees down, one tree glanced off my house, and ended up on the wagon. Thankfully, most of the weight of the tree was on the ground, I had to cut my way out from underneath it. Then I drove down to Tarrytown to get my wife off the train, as Metro North wasn't running any further north than Croton Harmon due to storm damage on the tracks... as for the wagon, a couple little dents and a scratch or two on the roof, but no broken glass, nothing to get too worked up about.
  16. New headlights today. Been running the last 8 or 10 months at night practically by feel... good thing it hasn't been used too often at night.
  17. Hit this yesterday: 345,678 miles. Full disclosure: blew the original motor at 181k miles when timing belt broke ( early - scary ); bought a short block from Subaru, re-did the heads, while everything was out put in a new clutch to replace the original and finally went for a new radiator for good measure. 232k miles - bought a used transmission ( with 56k on it ) as the original tranny was howling like the Hounds of the Baskervilles. Still digging this car.
