  1. well....the day has come. I've decided to let my car go. already have a potential buyer for it.

finally got a 2nd opinion from a local mechanic on the oil leaks coming from my car. the diagnosis:

    left HG leak

    valve cover leaking badly

unidentified (too much oil on it) leak coming from back by the turbo.

that paired with coming up on TB replacement/water pump.

I don't have the time, resources, patience, finances to make this a project car. Time to let someone else give it some love and make her a beast.

    270k. good run.

  2. anyone here ride a KTM? looking at getting my son a new mountain bike. choices through the team shop are KTM, a Fuel or a Scalpel.

reviews on the KTM's seem pretty good..minus the fact that the company is having a hard time getting them into the US.

  3. made it home. kept it under 4k rpms the whole way. when I got to the top of the last hill, i heard it again. best I can describe the noise...know when something spins too fast and it makes that noise....yeah...that..

I purposefully gave it a little gas periodically on my non stop drive home, and could hear the turbo working, but no noise. until that last hill.

needless to say..it's parked until i can get under and check it out.

  4. think my turbo went on the way in. I"m not sure yet...I could be ultra paranoid. but heard a sound I never heard before while driving to work. a whirring noise...not the turbo spooling. it's hard to explain. but when I let off the gas, it stopped. pulled over, popped the hood (like I'd see anything), got back in and drove off like there was an egg on my gas pedal.

didn't hear the noise again. at work now, will have to drive the same way back home. I'm 30 miles from home....i need to get it closer to home.

  5. maybe. second guy I talked to thought the same....but also said with that many miles, the seals could be leaking.

i don't know if I mentioned anywhere...but I sent an oil sample to blackstone labs. the results came back negative for coolant in the oil. In fact, they said they were a bit surprised how test came out considering how many miles were on it. and doubted there was a hg leak.

  6. i hear you guys. I'm waiting for the estimate from my mechanic. I'm not 100% sure yet what I'm going to do. but here's what I'm factoring in:

    1. time down without the car while it's being fixed. more than likely a 2 day job. cost of rental now has to be included.

    2. I drive 60+ miles a day. Yes the rest of the car is good.

    3. I won't be buying a new car again. Used. couple years old. 2011-2013 outback with low miles.

    4. swear to me!!!!!!

    5. yeah.....I want to keep it. I'm just not sure it makes sense anymore.
