Sign me up - just traded-in my Legacy wagon for a 2009 Outback 2.5i Limited. Only extended my payments by 2 years and $125 more per month...zero down.
-
Before the Outback my daily driver of 10 years was a MY96 Audi S6 wagon which had factory HID lights; after installing complete headlight modules sourced from Audi Germany. Back in 1995, the 1st generation HIDs made by Hella had the ballast and xenon bulb permanently connected making a bulb failure expensive. 2nd generation HIDs quickly altered this ballast/bulb configuration.
My MY98 911 has OEM HIDs. In ten years /50K miles the 911 has not had a single HID bulb failure; neither has my wife’s MY00 Boxster. That is not to say xenon bulbs do not fail, they do.
Maybe, just maybe there’s a high quality 4300K HID aftermarket kit in the Outback’s future. Does the Subaru’s projector assemblies include lenses with an appropriate cut off to support a xenon light source? Could look cheesy with an excessivily bright bulb and a funky lens cut off? What brand of HID kits have other used?
Short of a HID option, I’d support Subaru offering a headlight high pressure washer so I can stop pulling off highway to clean the headlights. Ski time in the Rockies is a bitch...w/o washers.
911, Boxster + 1 Outback ???
Wowie you have quite the garage. Are you a doctor or lawyer? Nice...that would be my choices if I had the money. 911 at least and a Subie.

Yeah it's on the recommend schedule of maintenance...DIY or take it to mechanic. It is one of the essentials for your car, not good for the engine if one starts to go bad.
-
Add me to the list of people that had this problem. The dealer was able to inspect the front left bearing and found it was bad. They replaced it under warranty.
-
I like this one...
Those only fit the JDM versions that have different bumpers than the U.S.

Good call...did it fit "as is". I bet you can find one a wrecked Outback at pick-your-part for cheap and just re-paint.

Cabin filter replacement by Bosch p/n P3785 is near free addition worth mentioning for as little as $13 (I got mine at Kragen for less than $20 with tax):

For 2007+ models all you need to do is drop glove box/panels and remove metal bracket that holds the sound proofing pad. Then you can get to the cabin filter bracket which is behind the top shelf of glove compartment.
At least $100 less than what the dealer charges for this DIY

My favorite so far has been the gas cap mod...
Here are a few more threads that are DIY - almost free just require paint and sandpaper:

Damn I was afraid of that...guess we'll have to go Timmons or the valley for now on. Irvine I hear is a good dealership as well.

Does anyone know if Santa Monica Subaru will ever re-open?
-
Don't do it. They want CRAZY $ for that and you're better off saving for a new Subie in the future that already has new stuff.
Another option is try your luck at Pick Your Part junkyards. Occasionally you can find a few newer wrecks with decent seats, I've done it before.
-
What happened to Santa Monica? It said temporarily closed on the fliers but sounds like they will be done for a while???
-
Where it attaches to the clamp in the seats, there's a little slot on the side. Use your key to press it in and the clamp will release the seatbelt so that all of it can be stored in the roof.
Thanks for the tip...I knew there had to be an easier way than taking apart the headliner.
-
It's all tucked neatly above the headliner.. what gets in the way? You're not going to get rid of the small bulge in the headliner...
When the belt is not in use it tucks neatly up into the ceiling out of the way..
The strap is attached to the ceiling / headliner. So when I pull the rear seats down to use the wagon like a truck...the strap is still attached and gets in the way when hauling stuff.
Although I probably use my wagon a lot more like a truck than the average owner.

alex
what about left front wheel bearing replacements? mine has only 9K miles but the bearings are intermittently scraping.

For wagon owners:
anybody remove the rear seatbelt assembly that is mounted in the headliner?
I use the wagon cargo area so much that the seat belt gets in the way too much, not sure if I need to remove the whole headliner or if there is an easier way
-
The easiest way to swap is to go to junkyards and looked for wrecked '05 + Legacy's. Although I'm sure they're rare and might be a lot of damage to seats, etc.
I've done that before on an older Subie wagon. Went to pick your part and found a couple decent seats for cheap that were a nice upgrade from what I had.

This won't work with our cars. The center console isn't symetrical
The center pieces do come off quite easily. Search for 'Vacation Pics'. They should give you a better idea of how things work.
I know the shift plate and center design is different between U.S. and JDM models.
However as far as those 2 side pieces that surround the center...the photo appears to be the exact same size/location no?

...you need to remove the shifter boot and cover, the piece of fake wood trim to the left of the shifter and the fascia piece along the forward driver's side of the center console.
Does anyone have any interior part diagrams or photos of this? I am not sure where the retainer clips are and would like to remove these parts. The fake wood trim pieces that run along the side of the console...and the shifter panel to install a custom boot.
I want to paint the fake cherry wood plastic pieces as well. Looks like it can easily break when trying to remove from the retainer clips.

It's been over 10 years since I last went to pick-your-part to upgrade stuff for my old '85 Subie wagon. Don't recall if you can call them to find-out how many Subie's on the lot.
-
Anybody know where there is a pick-your-part or junkyard in So Cal with a few 2005+ Legacy's?
Broke the AT shift plate chrome plastic bezel. Tried to hammer it in lightly over a leather boot...and it cracked.
The dealer probably wants crazy $, so hopefully can salvage one cheap off a wreck.

On the 2007 Legacy, the stock tires are 205/50's 17R...which matches what the website said...but those wheels especially the 17.5's didn't seem to be right.
-
Does anyone know if this website is accurate?
https://www.buywheelstoday.com/mycars/
Entered Subaru Legacy 2007, etc. but Allen tire/wheel store said several of the wheels I wanted were not compatible.
Allen tire only charges $20 per wheel to mount and balance even if you buy the wheels online.

Yeah that's a trip...I had no idea the production numbers are that rare. "Limited" literally means just that...not a marketing ploy.
I'd like to know what the other years are too.
