FAQ: Subaru Legacy 2.5i
D_J replied to katalyst's topic in Naturally Aspirated Powertrains (2.5i, 3.0R, 3.6R)
It looks like Rallitek recommends a new spring kit along with the cam, so it would cost $1300 (+ at least 4 hours of labor?) Rallitek also says this about their lightweight crank pulley: "..Weighing only 1.0lbs, it is almost 5lbs lighter then stock. This is also the lightest crank pulley on the market. This gives you quicker throttle response as well as more horsepower and torque. Reducing rotating mass results in better performance." http://www.rallitek.com/licrpu.html -

Is it a lot louder ? This should be a good solution for a shield: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/cobb-tuning-subaru-legacy-airbox-p-3587.html -

How's the performance with that intake? You removed the entire air panel...wow. I think driving in the rain/snow might be an issue unless you install some sort of sheild? I'm waiting to see how Hanger likes the Zero Sports custom intake for our 2.5i. He had to special order it. -
Timing Belt Replacement 2.5T
D_J replied to pyromarty's topic in Walkthroughs :: Basic Operation & Maintenance
I always heard 100K is an average benchmark for timing belt replacement for all cars that use them. Another point - just because the belt "looks fine" doesn't necessarily mean it's okay to delay or skip replacement. Because after time they start to weaken and if the belt breaks while driving...you'll be out of out luck. I plan on waiting to 90 - 100K and using the Gates belt. -

^ yeah I saw they had a non-turbo part SOA probably would honor warranty as long as no claims were made to related parts such as intake manifold, etc. Maybe if I had a Subaru dealer install the spacer they might be cool with it. But I can see them trying to make excuses to not honor engine warranty potentially if any mods were done to engine area. -

Do you know if I had the dealer install it would the warranty be cool? Since it's just a gasket/spacer...SOA hopefully won't give me any hassle with potential warranty claims. I did some more reading on the lightweight pulleys. Some vendors claim that the pulley also can improve acceleration? Might have to contact SOA and see if they're cool with these minor mods. My issue is that I got the max extended warranty so want to make sure it's legit. -

Please post some photos when you're done installing the spacers. According to the instructions it takes 4 hours to install? I probably will just take to an independent Subie shop to get it installed. How do you like the lightweight pulley? -

Same concept with the lightweight pulleys re: lowering the temperature? I never heard that before, about lowering temperature = more power. Anyone have a link where to buy the Grimmspeed spacers? This probably voids the warranty but as soon as my OB is paid-off and warranty is up...definitely would like to add the pulleys and spacers. -

I'd like to get the lightweight crank pulleys and intake spacers when my warranty expires. Lightweight pulley(s) doesn't increase HP just makes the engine run more efficiently? Re: the Grimspeed intake manifold spacers...not sure why that has the potential to be greatest benefit? In terms of engine longevity perhaps? -

Why do you like 25mm instead of the smaller size bars recommended by Rallitek and other manufacturers? Is it just stronger / more durable or is the handling that much better due to the larger bars? I'm thinking this might be a good fit for the Outback too. -

what model Outback XT or Limited/3.0? the seats are different sent you PM's for some misc. spare parts too -
There's a tint shop on Lincoln in Santa Monica...they do good work. I believe it is near Pico, a few blocks from the Sofa Factory store.
-
Any leaks? I heard some people have issues with the SS lines. Maybe they didn't get installed right. Probably will get the SS lines too. Great upgrade for not a lot of money.
-
+1 if that includes the bleed and replace with new fluid...I plan on doing the same thing and getting the motul fluild. New fancy rotors are more for bling factor.
-
Thx for the tip. I'll take my OB there to get hawk pads and SS lines installed. Don't like to mess with bleeding the fluid.
-
Who do you recommend we ask for ? I thought they serve mostly the WRX crowd but maybe Legacy/OB is close enough.

Take your time...the final '09 numbers are not quite ready yet anyways The final '09's are getting wrapped up and I hear the 2010's will be delivered in August. You the man...hard to get those numbers. Even my contact at SOA in NJ can't get that for me. -
Compilation of cheap and/or free Legacy Mods
D_J replied to CTATV's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
Yeah the wagons have the same tuck area in the roof...but still seems to slide around and rattle. Good idea with the tape. I might try a very thin sheet of foam + the tape. Probably ain't going to need to rear seatbelt to drive kids or what not any time soon anyway. I hear a lot of wagon owners have that rattle problem...many whom don't even realize it's the seatbelt assembly hitting the roof paneling when going over bumps etc. -

D_J replied to CTATV's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
Life is grand without the seatbelt chime driving me nuts One new issue with annoying noises though. For Legacy/Outback wagons...there is persistant issue with the rear seatbelt rattling in the headline when you disconnect from belt and stow in the roof. The dealer told me some people modify it and wrap it. Has anyone tried this? I want to try wrapping with foam and making sure there is no space left to rattle when stowed in the headliner recess. -
Are you looking to repair body damage or a custom paint job?

Unclemat: I'd like to know how many 2009 Deep Bronze Metallic Outbacks or 2009 Deep Bronze Metallic Limited Outbacks were produced - if the numbers are available yet. Thanks! -
Yeah I just got a gnarly deep rock chip down to the bare metal. I also need to find a place to repair it.
