  1. I'm looking to do the same thing, Dano. Something like the Galaxy Tab would be perfect, but I'm not planning on spending that kind of money for a CarPC. Something eventually will come out and fit the bill. The only few issues I'd see with an Android based system is: Storage size: You're limited to a 32GB SDHC Card? It'd work for me, but maybe not you. Front End: Ideally I'd want a car-friendly front end. It really wouldn't be hard, as android already comes with a Car Panel type thing -- but just in case this isn't enough, I guess someone would have to code it. Power Control: Turning the system on and off with ignition. Might be a bit tougher than using existing controllers that are out there. Otherwise, you could always just wire a switched +12V (w/ dc/dc converter) for charging, and manually turn the system on and off each time.
  2. Lee Berbs, AZP Installs. Not sure if you want to drive to Kenilworth, NJ, though.
  3. ^ Mike, check out Trane. We do work with them (both Equipment and BAS divisions), and they both could use some help. I don't personally have any contacts with-in Trane, but it can't hurt to look. edit: I just checked their site, and they do have several openings in NYC. Check it out.

  5. ^ well yeah, i'm talking about the corner too. They might be the same guys, but the food doesn't taste 100% exactly the same. It might have something to do with the much higher turn around time on the NW corner.
  6. It's not the same. They're very similar... but the white sauce isn't the same. The best C&R in the city is 28th and Madison. Screw the other guys. I know. http://www.streetmeatsteve.com
  7. ^ It would have to be one of those two. I had no problem getting them off. The most difficult task of the entire thing for me, was getting the front passenger side strut back in. Lining it up with the rotor was a PITA for some reason. The strut was way low. Just give everything a healthy dose of PB-Blaster and you should be fine.
  8. ^ Nope, our rear suspension is different. It's only one bolt in the rear. edit: i just watched them do the fronts... and they had one hell of an easy time getting the fronts back in... i had such trouble

    Car PC

http://www.androidcentral.com/augen-7-android-21-tablet-sell-kmart-14999 I've been thinking of getting a 7" android tablet and fitting it, rather than going the full CarPC route. I wonder how well it would work. The only problem I see with that particular model, is GPS. Not integrated and I don't believe it has any USB ports. Plus I'm not sure what GPS modules work with android.

    Car PC

^ Yeah, that was my alternative -- I might make a custom bracket behind the screen. The way I have it now interferes with radio reception (underneath the radio). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220005 ^ that one. in black or white, whatever's cheaper. What box are you looking at that's so small? I'm in Yorktown Heights.

    Car PC

The EEEBox that I'm looking at is: 9" x 7" x 1" I believe that will fit in the upper compartment.. you know where the owners manaul goes? I have to check. edit: just checked... the comparment is 9.25" x 5" x 2" Don't think it'll fit.. ugh.. gotta figure somethin out.

    Car PC

^ where are you guys mounting your laptops? My whole reason for the pico system was because i didn't want to run shit to the back of the car. it was easty to keep everything right up front. I pulled the RAM from the board last night and still nothing. It's definitely toast. I think I'm going to replace it with an EEEBox.
  14. ^ got pics of the interior? I'm really sick of my wood grain.

    Car PC

Yeah you're absolutely right. I'm thinking about getting an EEEBox and moving the whole system to the glove box. I think that's the only way I would redo it. I'm so sick of not being able to use it where I live cause it kills radio reception.

    Car PC

I agree with you guys. My next car will definitely have an integrated solution. I really enjoy my PC, even though I mainly use it for Navi, Music, Traffic, and a few other small things..... WHEN ITS WORKING. Mine has been very frustrating. There have been stretches when it refused to start up right away. Times when the wireless sync (for music) just wouldn't work at all. Other times it would start syncing random songs for no reason! The location of it (under the stock radio) is also causing reception problems with the radio in my area. And now, it just stops working. It's probably completely dead after only two years. I'm planning on keeping my car for a WHILE, so I will probably replace the system -- maybe locate it differently. I'm just dreading it. I've put so much effort into trouble shooting problems than actually enjoying the damn thing.

I don't get any beeps. I haven't tried pulling the RAM out yet. I'll try tomorrow. I'm thinking it's the Mobo or CPU

    Car PC

^ I can only do the RAM, I haven't tried it yet. Will do it later. It's a Pico board, so everything is integrated except the RAM: http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/pico-itx/images/pico-itx-0008m.jpg http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/pico-itx/images/pico-itx-0007m.jpg

    Car PC

So looks like my CarPC died. Honestly not sure what's going on with it. I have an Artigo Kit (Pico-ITX) -- and the computer will get power (lights turn on, fan goes, etc) -- but the computer just doesn't start. Even if it's the RAM or HDD, I should still get to BIOS. It's almost as if the Mobo is toast.

^ short answer: Transflective works in the sun. Lots of times my screen is useless during the day because of the sun.
  21. Oh this is gonna be so sweet!!! Good stuff Arctec! You should have wrapped the whole trunk when you had the bottom piece off. It would have made it easier. And your exhaust tips aren't centered properly
  22. spotted Subielover (2010 GT) in Mohegan Lake today.
