I've been busy all weekend so I havent had a chance to take more pictures, but as long as the weather holds out I'll be doing that tonite

as halogens they dont put out a whole lot of light on the road to begin with

For functionality sake, would this actually be too bright for fogs?

 

btw... dont know if you've noticed, but our fogs arent that functional to begin with

after i finished them last night, i went for a short drive but only had my cell phone on me so i couldnt get good pictures. maybe i'll take my nice digital out tonight and get some good pics that show the output from fogs only, lows only, and fogs + lows.

the light output from the fogs alone is tremendous, but a lot of the light is wasted

because fogs arent made to project 100' in front of you (they arent driving lights). if either of the 5000k fog hids go bad, i will be keeping them hid, but probably going with 3000k. i'm happy with it for now though! looks awesome at night!

There was a thread on here from 2007 that went into great great great detail about installing HID's into the foglights:

Its a great writeup that goes into incredible detail, but its a little too busy for me (and no pictures).

 

I think it can be explained in a more simple fashion.

 

So here's mine...

 

If you're trying HID's in the fogs, chances are you've already mastered the HID's in the headlights. Headlights were simple.... the only thing that was altered was that gray "dust cap." Well the fogs are similar, but they have a black "dust cap" that needs a little more modification. The headlights can easily be put back to stock halogen, whereas the fogs WILL NOT be able to return to stock.

 

What you will be modifying:

1. the black plastic fog light dust cap with plug

2. the short OEM fog light harness with white plug and gray plug

 

Those two things are all you would need to return to stock, so even if you did want to go back it would be as easy as getting new dust caps and short harnesses.

 

 

 

Lets begin..

I removed the front bumper to get to everything easier. This makes accessing the foglights and mounting ballasts much much easier.

 

Take that short wire harness that was connected to the black cap and hack the gray plug off.

Take the black plastic dust caps and cut the plug part off of it, leaving you with a nice opening. I used a drill, pliers, and the sidewalk (as sandpaper) to do this. I'm sure you have the proper tools, i.e. a dremel. Get the opening to be about the size of the back of the cap... see pics below.

Take the HID power wires out of the rubber grommet and cut the connectors off of it (as shown in the bottom right of the pic above)

 

Solder the hacked HID power wires to the short OEM harness that has the white plug (red to red, black to black)

 

Pull the HID wires and grommet through the hole in the black dust cap. Seal the grommet using silicone sealant or whatever. Also put some sealant in the holes in the grommet where the red and black power wires once were.

 

 

All this should yield you the following:

Pretty self explanatory from here...

H3 HID bulbs go in factory fog light housing,

put on black dust cap,

connect HID to ballast to factory plug,

mount ballasts,

put bumper back on,

enjoy!

 

 

note: plugs are all different, so they will only plug into exactly where they are supposed to go!! easy!!

 

 

oh and if you mess something up, its not my fault... mine work perfectly

 

This seems a lot more complicated than it actually is. Once you get the H3 HID kit and open the box, everything will make more sense.

I called the York dealer back and questioned the parts guy... he insisted that the front wheel bearing was not available as a complete assembly, and that the part number I have for the complete assembly is for the rear. Well the part number I gave him was the same number that the OP has pictured, and it matches what the Hanover dealer gave me.

Just called 2 dealers today to get some prices on the hub assembly and axle nut... got an interesting answer from the first...

 

In York - "This does not come as one unit"

Hub Housing (not complete) - $143.00 :eek:

Bearing - $87.40 :eek:

Seal - $10

Seal - $12

Axle Nut - $4.00

Total = $256.40 + tax :eek: :eek:

 

 

In Hanover - "Sure we have that in stock! But you won't need a new axle nut"

Hub Assemble (Complete) - $127.00

Axel Nut - $3.60

 

Total = $127 + tax

I mentioned to my dad that I was planning on replacing my front right wheel bearing and went over this walk through with him. The only question that he brought up is if there are any torque specs on the 32mm nut. Anyone know?

285 for 8-10min worked for me... no cookie sheet or anything. just sat the headlight (one at a time) on the oven rack. I just made sure that the clear plastic wasnt touching the sides of the oven. the first time i did it, i was a little nervous, but its really not that hard. if you're skeptical, put it in at 250 for 10 minutes, check it, and if its not able to be separated, then leave it in for a couple more minutes. Take it slow and stay focused! It REALLY is THAT easy!

As I just posted in Doc's Led thread, mine are in and working! I tied them into the parking lights, but did not get the blinking effect that Gershon was talking about

 

Doc I mine look just like yours... I decided that for now, I would not worry about the going back the middle of the orange. I may save that for a later project and actually use a short orange led strip. We shall see!

 

Anyway.. pics to come later, as my cam batteries are dead:(

my led strips came yesterday, my headlights are in the oven today... i'll post up some pics when im done!

No objections here. If you promise to try your idea out. I thought of that as well. My thought was to put some yellow film around it in the portion that was under the clear light bar and eliminating the yellow parking light and just having a yellow single filament turn signal.

 

Sounds good... just ordered a pair 5 minutes ago. I'll post up some pics in 7-14 business days (depending on when the lights get here)

looks pretty good... i do wonder how it would look if instead of cutting them short at the middle of the orange area you ran them straight back the middle of the "light bar", essentially splitting the parking light/turn signal in half.
