  1. I just used foam and double side tape. As of today, the car is still rattle free ever since I removed the dash. No need to add insulation or whatever. The foam type is just some soft foam from home depot. Actually, anything you find that can eliminate that "plastic against plastic" noise, you are good.

    nope, just regular screw drivers

I don't remember correctly, but there aren't that many screws to hold up the gauge. As for the plastic cover, make sure you REMOVE the plastic cover, take it out from the top hole of the steering wheel, and then remove the gauge. The ENTIRE gauge including the plastic cover will NOT come out (I tried)

hope this helps. I did NOT regret taking it apart at all, and the car is STILL rattle free from the dash :)

Where do you live? Can I pay you to do this for me?

  2. Here is mine, just picked her up this past friday.....

The QSM looks so good clean, but looks so good dirty as well.

Here it is! See, in my mind, I'm thinking a shop could get one, modify the bezel to fit the Kenwood screen, then sell a packet of brackets, etc. needed to attach everything securely to the Legacy dash - done. No touching the center stack.

Edit: This is the only reason I haven't run out and purchased a simple Parrot unit for Bluetooth. Here's "hoping" Highline will jump on this...

I'm about to pull the trigger on just a Parrot install to get Bluetooth. But this is a sweet setup and if a company could sell LHD modified nav bezels, they could make a killing. Makes no sense to me to have a nav/radio in the bezel in addition to the stock radio in the console - not a clean install in my opinion.

  5. tdoggy - Ill see what I can do about getting them produced for us. Although our primary focus will be the JDM bezel. I will have plenty of time during the Audi build to find a company that can manufacturer them to our pecifications. Will keep you updated.

*Rubs hands together* Anyone else interested in this? My only concern is that, since my job requires travel, I may need to take the plunge and get my own Parrot setup and skip messing with the nav and nav bezel.

  6. I think the better pics I've seen must have been a modified stocker.

I've seen the pics you speak of - yes, it was a modified nav bezel to eliminate the row of hard buttons and therefore allow for a larger screen. If Highline mass-produced these, I'd be a happy camper. Otherwise, may just go a simple route of installing a Parrot unit and have an extra button somewhere on the dash/console.

  7. sdvictor - I think I'm going to go your route and get the CK3000 - you did a slick setup. However, it's hard to tell where you mounted the mic - is it up around the rearview mirror? Any tidbits of info for the install process that I need to pass on to the professional installer (other than don't scratch the console)??? I will also be getting the adapter connections that you can purchase so no wires are cut.
  8. There was at one point a kit. Tdogg already did the research on it. Its unavailable. Either not being imported or discontinued.

We can make that bezel to fit that upper location. The difficulty is we do not have a LGT here to build off of. The clearance behind the cubby is extremely limited. As said to Tdogg, it can be built if we plan it all correctly (having a tester here for a few days and being able to make a mold and brackets to mount the radio). Please contact us for further details.

To add to your list ean, I would look into the Audiocontrol DQL8 as well. Its features are super extensive and also supports USB tuning.

John - $950 is the bezel/hvac mod: Our own mod. The JDM mod will be less (uses JDM controller as a base and modified by us). FYI - Japanparts is not moving on their price. Its $300 regardless.

Sorry havent kept up in this thread. Been super busy getting everyones projects home.

    Thanks,

    Rich @ HCA

If the price was right, I'd like to have an upgraded nav bezel and eliminate the integrated buttons, therefore allowing use of the new Kenwood system for integrated Bluetooth and iPod. However, if it's too expensive, it may just be worth the route to get a Parrot, drill a hole through the console for wiring and be done.

  9. Yep...it's a parrot CK3000 kit....in an outback. I wished they had the OB w/ nav in 5 (or in my wildest dreams, 6) speed. But 5EAT is the only choice. It's a clear disadvantage because it seems like everytime I rent a car in europe, I have to "re-acclimate" myself to a stick.

    here's a clearer view here:

Wait a minute - am I missing something? What is your Bluetooth switch connected to? Shouldn't there be a receiver mounted somewhere on the dash?

  10. Lots of ideas on how it will work. One is using both units. Our best idea would be to manufacturer our own bezel (small qty 3d printing or P-CNC'ing), and embed the JDM controller into it. The quality of our bezel will be identical to the factory. We would paint them inhouse though, to avoid paint errors. All of this still depends on the cracking of the JDM setup... which is still in process :).

Our goal would be to provide a full kit, no core needed. You can then sell your stocker on eBay for $100 and use it towards our kit. Or keep it and install it in the garage for some tunes.

No updates of yet. Will be posted when there is.

    Thanks everyone,

    The folks @ HCA

Rich - please also consider my previous request. For those of us who already have navi, perhaps you can rig up a new nav bezel to accommodate the replacement screens offered through Kenwood, that way we can gain access to more features (get rid of the push buttons on the nav currently).

  11. tdogg - Sure. Full package? - you provide the screen, we'll handle the rest? Let me know and I can better quote you.

So you can do something like this? Perhaps see if there is anyone else interested? All I would need is the bezel and I can go to my own shop and have them install everything there. Apparently Kenwood came out with a unit that will work with stock equipment, but I'll need to replace the screen in order to access some of the features such as Bluetooth, as opposed to having to use a remote.
