  1. Who cares what the number is? Just set it to what is comfortable. I keep mine at 63 here in MA in winter. I have a lot of issues with the car as you know but that isn't one of mine.. I just look at the numbers as higher/lower and don't care what the actual is, if 60 is too hot, set it for 50, why does it matter what the number says? Most older cars just have that red/blue knob and no actual numbers, I guess that is what I am used to anyways.

that attitude is the problem with america. you need to hold engineers to better standards otherwise you get shit products. would you want to set your home hvac to 62 to get a comfortable temp of 68? no. why should you have to deal with a defect when you pay good money for something.

  2. Wife and I noticed this the past few times we have been out. The dang car is insufferable. My LGT I set to 68 and it was fine. I set this thing to 68 and it keeps getting hotter and hotter and hotter. Sitting waiting in traffic today we had to put the AC all the way down to LO to get cold air circulating.

Apparently I am not the only one:

    https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/heater-blowing-too-hot-air.516187/page-3

Some people have to set the hvac to 62/63 to maintain around 70 degrees in the cabin. That is insane.

Anyone with a legacy experiencing this issue (among the other 50 the car has)?

  3. I might have that same rattle. Something on my passenger side rattles. Seems to come from the dash area or possibly pillar/door. Oddly enough it seems worse if someone is sitting over there. It is also tough for the person sitting on the passenger side to hear/pinpoint but super annoying from the driver seat. What did you have to remove to access that area?

just had to remove the glove box. super easy. open it and disconnect the piston on the right then squeeze the sides together and it will drop down and out.

  4. If there are more I have missed let me know and I can update this post. Something like this should be stickied.

    Engine Priming with electric ignition:

How to COLD CRANK with electronic ignition from a subaru tech. I have not tried this personally.

    Car is off

    Press down brake pedal

Press down accelerator FULLY to 100%

    Press ignition

This will cause the starter to cycle the engine and prime it.

Especially helpful after an oil change.

  5. With those gaps you must of gotten a Monday car or something, definitely not normal. That would be unacceptable for me. Also your 6 second claim is very odd, even in let's say -10 degrees Celsius weather mine does the change much quicker than that.

We have some colder weather coming up so it'll be interesting. Also no rattles on mine, it's 10/19 build date and Canadian, maybe those cars were built to a better spec then the American ones. There is some differences I've noticed from reviews.

Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

totally agree on the Monday car. had to have an alignment at 184 miles bc toe was so far out of spec the road noise was unbearable above 60.

side note called Subaru and they said they will take my feedback into consideration.in short tough shit.

  6. So this crap happened today. Add it to my list of annoyances. This guy was 5 car lengths in front of me. I was doing 42-46mph. Whip lashed my neck b/c I wasn't expecting this especially b/c I hit the accelerator pedal to go to the let lane and get out of the way. Nope, car had something totally different in mind.

and i am just making a playlist of all the annoying things. Here are two rattles you guys may come across due to cost cutting and poor quality.

One is an air vent director tube behind the glove box below the dash. The other is the wire connecting the smart mirror. I thought the later was coming from below the dash, but it was this stupid smart mirror wire. 10 cents worth of foam fixed both these issues.

I officially regret this car at this point. I have to drive it like an 80 year old. It has good power, some good options, but screams too much government control for my liking. I can't just go out and drive and have fun without some "safety" thing going off and in the case above... for no damn reason. Literally tired of the brakes locking up every time someone merges into traffic.

Oh, side note, buddy of mine who has 17K miles on his started to have his upper oil pan leak. Second time this has happened to him. He sold his accent b/c it happened and now it happened a year later on his new legacy. They gotta pull the engine to fix it.

  7. this thread has turned out to be awesome.

I will add one new one to the mix my dash started to rattle this evening with less than 2,000 mi on the car. it's up by the defrost vents. it's amazing everything is held together by plastic clips. what do they think was going to happen. I also had a rattle underneath the glove box and took it out and found that one of the vent directors towards your feet was completely loose.

  8. 1. Rough turn over on initial start. When the car sits overnight, the first start of the day (in a heated garage that is 62 degrees) feels like someone kicks the engine and the whole car shakes. Does anyone else notice that? Once it is warmed up for started/stopped more frequently it's fine but the longer it sits it just has a really rough turn over that shakes the whole car. Kinda like starting an old prop airplane.

    2. CVVT chirp. Start up the car, let it run for a minute, reverse down my driveway, stop completely, go into D. in about 2 seconds it goes CHIRP and then eventually goes into gear. Subaru has a tech note on this saying it is completely normal. Old school me it's like belts slipping but they say no it's fine. Seriously neighbors look at me.

    3. Today it was 37 degrees. Bright orange full screen and beep letting me know there may be icy conditions followed by a smaller orange light which stayed on that is a road w/ a snow flake in it. What the heck. Any way to disable that?

    4. Body roll sensor is for old people. Take a turn too fast and bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz abs brakes body role sensor thinks you are going to die so it hits the brakes.

    5. Collision avoidance is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too sensitive.

    6. Lots of rattles at only 2200 miles

    7. At least 6 seconds between R and D shifting when backing out of the driveway first thing in the morning... plus... cvvt chirp

    8. Horrible paint quality. Bottom of rockers are not painted. Bottom of trunk lid not painted. Just overspray.

    9. Felt lined wheel well liners collecting mud/water/mold.

    10. Inadequate underbody liner behind front wheel wells where rocks hit. You can tell this is where the car comes down the production line on the machine. They just never go back and touch it up but instead leave metal in a high rock area.

    11. huge difference in panel gaps. 5mm difference between rear driver and passenger doors.

My playlist of annoying rattles and collision avoidance failures:

    12. panel gaps are horrible

    13. hvac auto mode sucks major balls and i am not the only one. have to set it on 62 in order for it not to get balls hot in the winter.

  9. Subaru just sent out this email:

    The STARLINK update will improve:

    Apple CarPlay®

You asked for it and you have been waiting for it - Apple CarPlay full screen is finally here. The full screen view will create an even better experience than you already enjoy. (With the release of iOS14 later this year, you'll see even more improvements in your Subaru when you update your iPhone).

    Improved CarPlay boot up time.

Turn-by-turn navigation directions for CarPlay now show in the gauge cluster (between speedometer/odometer) and info bar (under clock).

Carplay music can now be seen and controlled under the STARLINK Media app.

    Android Auto™

    Boot up time improved

Android Auto music can now be seen and controlled under the STARLINK Media app.

    SiriusXM®

Introducing Smart Favorites for your SiriusXM presets. You’ll see a new star icon on the top right of the preset to indicate it’s a Smart Favorite. With this feature, you can skip back to the start of a song or even to prior songs from the time your vehicle was started.

    Boot up time improved

Album artwork will be displayed while the vehicle is in motion, from any music source.

    For TomTom® navigation equipped vehicles:

Map orientation preference now saved after restart.

Vehicle location triangle now easier to see

Map Updates Over the Air have been fully enabled. You will be able to get a map update over Wi-Fi or using the STARLINK smartphone app sometime in August of 2020. Stay tuned for another communication. In the meantime, map updates can be also downloaded from subaru-maps.com onto a USB drive.

You can now customize the vehicle Bluetooth name to something other than Subaru. (This is ideal for homes with more than one Subaru in the driveway and multiple phones paired to each).

This update also resolves the following bugs:

    Blank home screen

EQ settings lost and revert to factory default

    CarPlay connection cannot be established

Bluetooth connection can not be reestablished

    Media source cannot be changed

Radio station does not resume playing

Display freezes after inserting a CD

    White dots appear on display

System reboots after starting the car

    Overall stability and performance improvements

    Update instructions:

I got the update from the dealer and it has navigation POI features, clock setting updates, and a few other little things.

  10. Wow! Sounds like you are extremely unhappy with the car. Not to be disrespectful, but maybe you should have looked closely at it before you bought it to see all the paint defects and taken it out for a long test drive...then you could have bought something else. I wish you luck. BTW, just went to check the trunk lip on my 2020 turbo XT...it is perfect. Mine was delivered in Sept. of 2019.

yea what you said is completely illogical. what were they going to do... put the car up on a lift for me? 2 of 3 "defects" are under the car. a bad alignment and unbalanced wheel was on my new car, not the one that was test driven. as far as the features, what am I going to take a car I don't own and try to get in an accident with it to see if the collision avoidance system works? sorry I didn't have access to a mountain on my test drive? everything was gone over with a fine tooth comb and all items addressed except when i got to a place with 12 8ft long dual led strip lights (my garage) I noticed flaws in the paint. i know there are more folks out there like me and I am trying to share what it is like going from an 08 to a 2020. thanks to federal mandates, unless you have 200K to drop on a ferarri, you are going to get these annoyances in the name of safety. nothing can be done about that other than to pick the least of all evils.

  11. so I emailed them asking how their device works. below is the response I got. i was correct in my assumptions. you are basically getting a capacitor that stores the last signal received and transmits it again the next time you start the vehicle.

Our device really has nothing to do with the stereo camera. It's just a place to connect to the bus. (If you're interested, research CAN bus.)

It's a digital circuit, and our device sends a signal your vehicle is designed to receive to turn auto start/stop off. There are no hacks or gimmicks at play to cause side-effects. It's all very straightforward.

Thanks, but we don't need testers for the Legacy. The Outback device we have will work fine, we just haven't had time to add the Legacy to the website.
