  1. Well, I went down the rabbit hole and built a 6.5 creedmoor... Bergara Premier barreled action Triggertech trigger KRG stock Athlon Cronus optic Then, I spent a stupid amount of $$$ on some Hornady ELD Match ammo. And today I took it to the range for the first time. Only had time for a few (11) rounds before work stuff, just enough for a quick 100 yard zero. First two rounds (boresighted) were touching on the right side of the paper an inch high. Made one scope adjustment, and fired three more rounds centered (.75 MOA). Next three were on the upper left (.5 MOA plus a called flyer), and three more on the upper right (.5 MOA). Pretty pleased for the first 11 rounds out of a brand new gun, shooting off a picnic table. Next time out will be on a real bench, and over a chronograph so I can start working up the dope.
  2. The fire system is activated by the red "T" handles, which are mechanical: a cable physically pulls on the bottle handle. The red switch located next to the fire pull (or under it on the gauge panel) are the electrical cutoff switches. Either one will shut off power and kill the electrical system and engine. I'm still waiting for the labels for those switches, so sorry for the confusion. BTW, most of the electronic fire systems run off a small battery and are independent of the vehicle electronics. Some even use temperature sensors for automatic deployment. I still worried about the wiring being damaged by fire, so I went mechanical (plus, it was about 1/2 the cost!).
  3. Well, the turbo still isn't installed. I told myself that since turbos about double the chances of a fire, I would install a fire suppression system before it got the turbo. Roll in a busy summer, and.... So I just finished up the fire system install, and a rewire of the primary battery and alternator runs with welding cable, incorporating cutoff switches. In the process, it got a new center stack and a front mount for a center net. Photo dump: And since our 'season' here in the southwest is October to May, now we're in the thick of things, so I'll probably wait until next summer to turbo the car so I don't miss too many events having it down. That will also give me more time to put together a new motor so I don't have to worry about preserving the stock rods.
  4. You can have a lot of fun with .22LR. And it's a LOT cheaper than any centerfire, even at today's prices.
  5. I'm getting ready to go down the rabbit hole of a 6.5CR long range rifle... Anyone have first hand experience with Tikka T3x vs. Bergara Premium rifles? Read lots on the various forums, just curious if anyone here has any input.
  6. Ready for Zombieland!! Been wanting to try one of these for a while, and finally found a decent price. Magpul D-60... probably just silly, but may not be bad on a grab-n-go gun. Need to get it out on the range and see if it runs, and if the extra weight/bulk is a deal breaker. Apologies for the fuzzy pic... damn cell phone again.
  7. 12 lb/hp with driver, and there are some other classing modifiers (tire compound, etc).
  8. Not a variable vane turbo. Plan is to tune for ~220whp to run in NASA TT4.
  9. Finally finished up the aero with the installation of a 9 Lives Racing wing and fiberglass trunk. Put some black vinyl on the wing to protect the aluminum, and got the trunk lid painted. I was originally planning to paint the top at the same time, but my wife insisted we leave it white. Still trying to decided if I like it or not... Aaand, this showed up on Friday: Hope to have it up and running and tuned for the fall.
  10. It was my cell phone... it pretty much does what it wants.
  11. It's the light... those pics came out very 'golden', not sure why. I've taken many other pics under the same lighting without that result. Here's the Model of 1905 Target in straight 'white' lighting: This gun was made in 1920.
  12. That is funky. Looks like a pro for a sci-fi series.
  13. How 'bout some more old school? These are my two "oldest" S&Ws... Combined age is 190(!) years.
  14. 3 weeks... amazing. Though there's no reason a Form 4 should take any longer than that, and any Form should be same day with electronic submission.
  15. +1... I thought they were talking about it, but didn't think it happened. Did it?
  16. Picked up a Sig P365XL for a red dot carry piece, and mounted a 507K. Pretty impressed with it so far... I've never been much of a Sig fan, but gotta admit they knocked it out of the park with the P365 family.
  17. I wasn't really liking the low scope rings on my Tikka, so I switched to high rings and took it out and re-zeroed this morning. The high rings definitely made it more comfortable, and I was more consistent with my cheek weld. Shot a 223/250 on the USBR target this morning, which is a personal best. I think I'm ready for my first match next week. For those unfamiliar, the USBR target is used for rimfire benchrest competition at 50 yards. There are 3 sighting targets at the top, and 25 targets for score with 250 as the possible score. You get 20 minutes to shoot one shot on each target. Sounds easier than it is... My 223/250 target (the 'C' is my designation for tracking which ammo I was shooting): To give a better idea what you're shooting at, here's a dime and .22 round for size. The tiny ring in the center is the ten ring, which is .100". Literally like driving tacks. This is a fun change from the USPSA/IDPA type stuff I've been doing over the last few years. You really have to work on techique and consistency.
  18. Wow, had no idea it was that many. Just imagine the ATF trying to process that many NFA applications!
  19. Well, the ATF officially allowed them, and then even said you could shoulder them. There have to be hundreds of thousands of these things in circulation. I think there's a very reasonable argument that if they want to change their mind and make them illegal, they have to compensate people for the cost, or waive the cost of the tax stamp to register them. Either one is a non-starter.... it would cost millions to compensate owners, and they don't have the capability to process current NFA applications in a timely manner, much less a hundred thousand new applications overnight. They should just remove short barrels and suppressors from the NFA, but that will never happen.
  20. ATF is after pistol braces again... https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/factoring-criteria-firearms-attached-stabilizing-braces
  21. I got a tip last night on some 'in stock' .22 and ordered SK Flat Nose Target, and Standard Plus this morning. They didn't have any of the SK 'Match' varieties. No Midas or Center-X, and I decided to pass on a box of X-Act at $35. Didn't carry Eley. Lapua actually has a test center here in AZ... I'm tempted, but I'm not sure I want to know that the best shooting ammo out of my rifle is $35 a box of 50!
  22. I have heard that about CCI SV. So far I haven't been able to find any Green Tag to test. It didn't like Remington Target at all, nor does it seem to like anything 'high velocity'. Around 1050-1100fps seems to be its happy place. FWIW, I've tested the above Tikka with and without the can (Mask HD), and haven't seen any repeatable differences in group size at 50yds. The weakest link in the chain right now is me.
  23. +1... might work for static noise abatement, but that's about it. And there's probably much more elegant ways to do it. Speaking of noise abatement, I had been looking for a bolt .22 as a suppressor host for a while, but 2020 happened. Availability went to zero, and used stuff was selling for nuthouse prices. Savages that were $219 retail in 2019 are now selling for over $400 used. LGS had a Tikka T1X hanging on the wall, which I had ignored previously because of the cost, but now the delta over a "cheap" bolt was only ~$100, so I grabbed it before it disappeared. And I'm pretty glad I did. Coincidentally, my club was starting up a benchrest .22 match series, so I went fully down the rabbit hole, and picked up a KRG chassis, and a cheap Mueller 8-32x optic. This thing shoots pretty darn good, and I'm just using CCI Standard Velocity ammo. I haven't been able to get any 'real' target .22 to try yet. My best on a USBR target is only 214/250 so far, but I'm still working on my technique. Oh, and it's super quiet suppressed.
