  1. but adding the AVO bracket reinforcements on the rear.

Definitely +1 on the AVO reinforcements, when I crawled under to install my JDM rear bar I couldn't believe how much I could move the stock brackets just by hand... If Cobb is making bars again, I'll have to add them to the list of mods I need to convince the wife I have to have....... and it is already a long list.

  2. So I have been MIA for some time, so sorry if I missed this question while I was reading the old posts.

So I finally looked at the 2010 models (I got married 11 months ago........) and saw that they have radio and cruse buttons on the steering wheel now. Does anyone know if those, more importantly the radio button set, work and fit the '05 steering wheel? The shape and size looks right, but wondered if anyone has tried it yet. I have already done this mod and love it, just thinking this might be better to have all of the buttons in one area.

  3. McSquish,

The problem is that you're using the headphone jack. The headphone jack provides a voltage level that is well below that of a true line level output and that's why it's quieter.

If you want an easily swappable 1/8" jack, you could use something like this to connect to the iPod. That way it's a line level output, but you can still swap back and forth:

Thanks! I had a hunch that was the issue.

  4. Question for everyone. I have this installed (me likey enough to get my own Ipod so I would stop "borrowing" the GF's ) but I have a question for those who are using the headphone jack for their Ipods. For me, I have to crank the volume to 100% on my Ipod and then listen to the radio a bit higher than "normal". Is this what people are experiencing? I'm using the headphone because when on long trips my GF watches movies and likes to pipe the sound through the stereo. If using the line-out would fix the issue I guess I could always make up a patch cable (I installed a 1/8" jack in the armrest and also use the power plug for charging).

and yes I tried searching and scanned the thread. and yes, I got board and gave up......

    Thanks for any help!

  5. Installed the kit last year (ok, a week ago:lol:) and it went easy, very good instructions! The only part that was a little difficult was installing a jack in the armrest. I used it my entire trip to Chicago and back with on issues (~6hrs each way). The "muted" time is maybe a second when the end of the CD is reached, personally not a big deal considering no more using a FM transmitter!!!!!!

One bit of advice for fellow 5eat owners. When removing the trim around the shifter, go SLOW, and don't try it if the plastic is cold. I snapped off two of the plastic retainers when I removed the trim. Some super-glue fixed it, but I was not happy.......

  6. I just read the write up, very nice. Now that it's a year later I have a question about fluid. I'm getting ready for my 30K service and I figure it is a good time to upgrade the break fluid and brake lines. For a daily driver "grocery getter" that I drive spiritedly, what would be a good fluid? I've read about ATE super blue and Motul, but since I'm a noob to making mods I could use some help. Also suggestions on SS brake lines would be appreciated. You all have no idea how useful this site is, I think I'm the only subie GT in town and don't get me started on my "auto part stores" and stealer.................

  7. Now I have to say again that I am no expert on the Subie wiring, but I would think if you ran a wire from the brown wire back to the rear light and attached it with a diode to the same location on the rear light, (I don't know the correct color of wire in the back) it would make the rear light turn on when you opened/unlocked the doors. But adding three extra bulbs to the module might be too much.? I know it turns on when I open the hatch, but I have never noticed though if mine turned on or not when I unlock the doors. Hmmmmmmmmmm

  8. motorob, now I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, but are you sure all of the doors are closed. Believe me, I went nuts untill I noticed the rear door on the other side was cracked open......... Also, where did you tap into the brown wire? I'm no where near an expert on wireing of Subies, but if you would have fried the control module, I would think you would have had to realy mess something up. Good luck

  9. This is an awesome mod. It is so nice to have light when I get into the car in the dark. The only problem I had was I have an aftermarket moon roof and I couldn't fish the wire from the dome, so I ended up finding the brown wire in the right "A" pillar. If you tap into the brown wire there, I would suggest disconnecting the battery since the front side air bag is also right there. I could just see something happen and have that sucker go off. I also put a plug in-line so it would be possible to disconnect everything if needed. Again this is an easy and great mod, thanks a ton!!
