  1. I called my Subaru dealer today and found out that the deadline to update Starlink for free has been extended by Subaru to the end of the month. I'm getting it done tomorrow. In my original complaint email to Subaru customer service, I invited them to contact their legal department to discuss the legal ramifications of not following through on what they are advertising on their websites. Maybe they listened? In the San Francisco Bay Area, we have a big issue with car thefts and carjackings. That’s the main reason why I wanted to update my Starlink. Having the Starlink update might also help a bit with resale value.
  2. Thank you. I read a couple of articles this past weekend about how other car manufacturers are handling the end of 3G and thought about my Subaru. After checking the official Subaru websites, I re-subscribed to Subaru STARLINK on January 16, 2022. The woman who took my credit card over the telephone never mentioned anything about a January 15, 2022, deadline to update the 3G. If Subaru gets back to me and budges on the deadline, I will let everyone know. Since I'm concerned mainly about crime, if necessary, I may just get a 4G GPS tracker and hide it in my car. The annual subscription fee is just a little more than the annual cost of STARLINK.
  3. Because of the almost daily carjackings in my city, I resubscribed to Subaru's Starlink in case my car gets stolen (preferably not with me in it). The current Subaru.com and MySubaru.com websites still state that I am entitled to a free update if I am an active subscriber. There is a February 2022 deadline mentioned for the retirement of 3G. For example, MySubaru.com today still says, “Your Subaru Retailer will offer a complimentary update for vehicles like yours with an active STARLINK® subscription. This will ensure you can continue to access important STARLINK® Safety & Security services.” This is not a statement in the past tense. When I went in my dealer today for my appointment, I was told that the deadline for a free update was January 15, 2022, but that I could pay about $900 for the software update. Was there an email that went out with the January 15, 2022, deadline? Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I am appealing to Subaru to honor the free update. As a fallback, I am mentioning that there are legal implications to making representations on websites that are not honored.
