2006Specb122
Hey guys, I'm going to do a brake job...eventually... thought I would start looking into it early... Don't really have a need to UPGRADE while my original system is still functioning properly...but when it comes time to do a brake job I would like to have cross drilled or slotted rotors along with some upgraded pads and maybe even stainless brake lines. I think I've noticed on the WRX they come with RED painted calipers with the SUBARU logo painted white on the caliper. Do they offer anything like that for the legacy. I'm pretty sure we don't utilize the same parts in this area. Any suggestions. I love the look of those calipers and the Subaru letters on them make them stand out. Those calipers with a nice set of cross drilled rotors would be the perfect fit to the BRICK RED leather interior. Thanks...
laz
Paint them and put some decals on. The G2 paint system is pretty good. Look at other members pics, they have done so and they look good. RobE
The WRX brakes would be a downgrade for the LGT. http://newenglandsubarus.com/
B4LGT22
i dont think he wants to "downgrade" to the WRX calipers, i think he wants the look of the calipers with the red color with the SUBARU wording on the caliper. I agree, just get some duplicolor and paint the calipers. i think masking the caliper and then using a razer blade to cut and form the word SUBARU and then paint over it and peal off the tape should work for a while. SKullman
the 06/07 wrx uses the world standard 4-pot front, 2-pot rear. The fronts I think would be worth it, but I think the rear are smaller. http://www.subaruwrxnews.com/images/05-2006/WRX_2006_Calipers.jpg http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/WRX06wheel1a.JPG not to be mistaken for the STi units http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/WRXSTIsilverralloy1.JPG
2006Specb122
yeah brembos would be even nicer....anyone around here install those on their LGT.... I sell wide belt sanders that utilize brembo brakes. I would love to carry a set on my car...
2006Specb122
yeah I thought of paint..didn't know about the decall place... that might work are you saying just the decall to mask the paint..so in the end I just have a stencil effect...but it is painted like the original... laz
I have seen both methods, and honestly the deacl on top of paint looks sharper than using as a stencil. X ---

The rear units utilize the same rotor, while the fronts are smaller on the WRX.
jim1969
so, are the WRX an upgrade or a downgrade for the LGT? Will they work with our rotors?
gianspi
downgrade and no enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
kevinh
downgrade and no Actually, your wrong if you speaking of these WRX TR rotors pictured above. They are 4-piston rotors...and big upgrade over our 2-piston. I would like to know if they are direct bolt-on's or not? KevinH
muddy02
not purchased, but same (cheaper) results. i do have HP ceramic pads. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w269/muddy02/DSCF0767.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w269/muddy02/DSCF0768.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w269/muddy02/DSCF0770.jpg It's not about speed, it's about acceleration! I would like to know if they are direct bolt-on's or not? Incorrect. The fronts ARE smaller and the rears are the same size. Also, more pistons doesn't equate to more stopping power. Putting the front WRX brakes on a Legacy GT would be a downgrade in braking capability.

kevinh
I didn't realize the WRX rotors are smaller 11.5" to our 12.3"...that would be a downgrade, your right. But, to replace or 2-piston calipers with 4-piston calipers on...our 12.3" rotors would be a great improvement, that's what I was refering to. It would be a cheaper, easier upgrade. Read my first reply again. Adding more pistons does NOT increase stopping power. Our sliding two piston calipers use larger pistons than the four-pot WRX calipers. 2006Specb122
I did it! I painted my brake calipers red. I used the Dupli Color kit. I am happy with the results. Some thought it would stand out too much but I think it matches the car nicely and doesn't draw too much attention. I figure the WRX were coming with red calipers from the factory so why not. Plus I have red throughout the car and Red with Silver always looks decent. What do you think?

kevinh
I did mine in blue....they look great the first year. The second year, they dull out tremendously. Below is a kind of a before and after...may be hard to tell. But, pic 1...the calipers are glossy, brilliant blue, and pic 2...the are flat and dullish, lighter blue I'm not sure whether to repaint them...just put a clear coat on them so the don't get worse...or send them out for powder coating. The latter being not imaginable. KevinH
Wrxdan2002
an upgrade for the deprived outback folks? I have been looking for a LGT set up for a while now with no luck & might consider this as an option. Dan
