mwiener2
I know the 5 OB owners around here have been wanting to get new brakes. Basicly all the info I can find from searching is that the front pads are the same as a 2003-4 WRX and the rear pads are unknown. I really wanna toss the whole brake setup and get new calipers and rotors and pads, but I don't know what fits. I think I can assume anything that will fit a LGT would also bolt up to the OBXT. Budget wise, I wouldn't mind buying some used calipers off an STi or something. I'm 99% sure that the front brakes from an STi would just bolt up, but the rears are again on their own. So the question is, What bolts onto the OBXT, especially the rear????? Someone help us 5 lonely OBXTs!!!!! urfsin
I am with you on the brakes brother. I need some stopping power to match my go power!!! I am thinking of getting some stock LGT calipers($200??), Hawk HPS pads($80) and DBA Sport Slotted Replacement Rotors ($255). I figure that will be a nice upgrade for not too much $$$. mwiener2
I'm also thinking about a 4 corner LGT swap, but I don't think it's worth the $$$. For a little more you could replace the front brakes. We have EBD, so I would think that would keep the braking bias pretty even even though the fronts would be huge and the rears would be tiny. captainmorgan
I did a Rotora BBK front and rear setup. I think they were the same as a WRX setup. I've been very happy with it, and the brake pads are easily found (Viper brake pads come to mind). For $2K was it worth it? It might b e, its definately night and day. mwiener2
you got all 4 corners (calipers, rotors, pads) for under $2k? My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
captainmorgan
Yes. RBK011.01 330x24 4-pot front calipers, slotted rotors, reinforced stainless coated brake lines, and street pads. RBK016.03 290x18 2-pot rear calipers, slotted rotors, reinforced stainless coated brake lines, and street pads. The calipers are all WRX fitment, but are a perfect fit for the Legacy. I must have accidentlly ordered the WRX fitment, because it came with the wrong stainless brake line kit. I think there was a group buy her ea while ago that was a pretty good deal, and I know that Hopupracing.com sells them at a fair price too. captainmorgan
I should mention that I did coilovers at the same time, and I think that had a bigger effect on the braking than the kit did.
urfsin
RBK011.01 330x24 4-pot front calipers, slotted rotors, reinforced stainless coated brake lines, and street pads. RBK016.03 290x18 2-pot rear calipers, slotted rotors, reinforced stainless coated brake lines, and street pads.[quote] Did these fit under the stock 17" rim?? The 330mm size on the front seems very big (in a good way of course)!! Slide It Sideways
mwiener2
I can't find that setup for under 2600 let alone under 2k. And that's without SS lines. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
mwiener2
do these fit? http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1076057 I think the fronts will, but the rears wont. I'll sell the rears later. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
captainmorgan
Yes, they fit under the stock OBXT wheels with no problem. Front: http://www.hopupracing.com/rofr46pibigb2.html Rear: http://www.hopupracing.com/rore24pibigb3.html And here is the group buy. I was quoted at much less than the prices listed. They may still be able to do a similar deal. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30057&highlight=rotora I think there are a couple other places that sell the kits, but I'm not sure off hand anymore. I think that I found mine by flipping through Nasioc.com. Also, all the kits come with new lines.
captainmorgan
maybe the Brembos will fit... Also, I don't know what is required, but the installation for the Rotora's was super easy, literally take the old stuff off, put the new stuff on. captainmorgan
I think the problem lies in the fact that the brakes on the outback are the same as the brakes on the impreza, a chassis that is 300+lbs lighter. Also, when coupled with the soft long travel suspension and balloony tires, makes for terrible stopping qualities. Plus there's the bling factor. Never forget the power of bling. urfsin
Brake bling will take 20 ft off your stopping distance alone!! Slide It Sideways

mwiener2
Ok, time to get serious.... here's the contenders. From PLtek: http://www.pltek.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1106_21_23_41&products_id=418 JCS Speed: Subaru 4-Pot Front Brake Calipers for 02-05 WRX $610 Stoptech 328mm $1795 stoptech 332mm $1895 RalliTek: http://www.rallitek.com/romifr4picak.html But there are no measurements or anything. FastWrx.com: http://www.fastwrx.com/wrxstibrbrfo.html racingbrake.com: http://www.racingbrake.com/OUTBACK_FRONT_Straight_Slot_01_06_p/2037-211-411-03.htm Guys, help me out here. I have a budget of about $1500. I need new front Calipers, Rotors, Pads. Anything that fits an LGT should fit me. If I could just get calipers, that would be great because rotors and pads I can get at discount prices so long as they are a common size. mwiener2
You're all too slow. I got the brembo's from FastWRX. There may be a slight issue with the stock rims, but I'll figure it out later. urfsin
Quote from fastwrx.com "Finally, make sure you're using wheels that will clear these brakes. Factory Legacy GT wheels will NOT fit over the front calipers. Most of the Rota models we sell WILL fit, as well plenty of other aftermarket wheels." Bummer for me, I was thinking of picking up some brembos on e-bay as well. I am in the same boat as you mwiener2, I want better brakes for my OBXT. But I only have stock wheels. Limeydriver
The Rotora's fit under stock Outback wheels. They are a great setup for the Outback. Brake pedal feel much improved. With the Avon tires, braking is much better. Brembo's will not fit.
mwiener2
Has anyone actually tried the brembo on the OB with stock wheels? Our offest is different than the LGT. I'm also gonna try a spacer. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
urfsin
^^^^did not know that the stock offset was different. What is the stock offset of LGT?? What is the stock offset of OBXT?? Anyone? Mwiener2- You have aftermarket rims right?? so your new brembos should be no problem Slide It Sideways
