VXCL
Got my PIAAs in the mail today and it was perfect that it decided to rain. i used the vacation pics which allowed me to swap the bulbs in under ten mins. they make a huge difference. I got them for $48 shipped. they look great contrasted with my xenon d2s projector retro. i always wanted some good pics to see what color yellow they were. they always seem pale, but i'm so glad they aren't. not quite lexus is300 yellow, but close enough without yellow lenses. im so happy. now only if i had the jdm front grill. enjoy the pics. peace IT WAS REALLY FOGGY AND MISTY OUT so pics aren't crystal clear, but good enough bulb and package http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3767.JPG model number http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3771.JPG stock vs piaa http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3780.JPG close http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3791.JPG med http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3789.JPG angle http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3807s.jpg MAYHEM #122/22 STS NNJR SCCA AUTOX4U.COM XENON RETRO GUIDE
Precise
looks really nice, I wanna do the same in my car. Where did you pick the bulbs up from? a lil off topic and might be a really stupid question: What exactly did you do in your other thread. I know you replaced the projectors and got HIDs but why did you replace your projectors, I thought our cars had them already. And where did you get just the projectors from? I thought that bmw didnt sell the projectors by themselves, they just came with the headlight.
VXCL
we have a halogen h7 projector and a very good one at that. however this is why hid kit in our oem projector http://img272.echo.cx/img272/5286/dsc022367qt.jpg my setup (oem bmw d2s projector system) http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3753.JPG and theres a great pic on here somewhere of a our car with akit parked next to a saab at night. the legacy of course as a lot of glare while the saab has none. bmw doesnt sell the parts separately but the manufacturers like hella do if you have a way to purchase them. i just used parts that were ripped out of a bmw. same thing and a lot cheaper. ebay is loaded with them. also i have access to the same setup i installed for cheap. Gohmer1
In those two pics I don't see much of a difference....is it just that beam is flatter? What are the benefits, b/c after seeing those pictures, I feel like they're not that far apart in quality.
highwaydrifter
you cant see the difference between the two? the glare of the first one is intense..
Deer Killer
you cant see the difference between the two? the glare of the first one is intense..That's not glare. There is actually a hole in the project shield to let _some_ light into that area, so you get at least some light up on road signs, etc. I wouldn't let that be your marker of goodness. Also it looks like the left bulb on the H7 kit didn't quite make it into the right position.
VXCL
what you have to keep in mind is that in both pics the cars are only 5ft away from a wall. you may think they look similar now, but imagine what happens 50 ft away. .5" on the wall is a massive area once you put some distance on it. some person had a pic of their legacy with a kit next to a saab with d2s xenon. saab no glare. subie glare monster. a h7 kit is preety damn good in our car, but it just cannot control and spread the light like a xenon d2s or d1s setup. TSiWRX
Deer Killer - I agree with your second statement - that it looks like the left bulb on the H7 is somewhat off.... But your first assessment, that I respectfully take difference with - that hole in the shield, while letting light get above cut-off and is really great for road-signs, isn't a sign of goodness, either, as it isn't properly designed for that purpose with HIDs, which IMHO is thus also contributing to the glare problem. For good road-sign illumination while minimizing potential for oncoming-glare problems E-code is a great way to go. The cutuff on such units, on the passenger's side, departs sharply on an upward angle, and really causes road-signs to "pop" at typical driving distances. At the same time, straight-forward (12-o'clock) cutoff is strictly maintained parallel to the road surface at "below greenhouse." But more than that little peep of yellow from the hole(s), -true- glare around the beam cutoff in the H7 pic is, as highwaydrifter cited, much more prevalent in the H7 setup. As VXCL cited, those pix are at extreme close range - the oncoming-traffic viewed blossom must be impressive with the H7s, to say the least, at typical driving range. Still, as many here (including myself and VXCL) have cited, our USDM lighting system even with an "improper" retrofit does decently well in terms of curbing light scatter/glare, and puts out quite a nice pattern, including cutoff. Certainly better than an average Ricy Civic - but still, to the discriminating lighting enthusiast, the output from such an improper retrofit is -far- from perfect. The biggest problem with improper retrofits is glare, and that's what's minimized by VXCL's hard work and proper retrofit. -A <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family

TSiWRX
The "yellower" bulbs - many positive remarks on either the PIAAs recommended here or the Narva Golds - do work very, very well in inclimate weather...rain and fog especially, and are also great at adding foreground light in contrasting color to better visualize the "black slush" curbs on wintery, plowed-snow northern roads. They're truly well worth the cost, IMHO. -A <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
