With a bit of work, you could slam it, replace the windows with plexiglass, gut the interior, you'd have a lightweight van with no upper body mass. Dodge made performance handling kits for many of their cars in the Mopar catalog that looked stock.

Moreover, if you could find the 2.5 turbo 2 engine, it was rated at 224 hp - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_K_engine#2.5_Turbo . I had one in a Dodge Shadow that routinely walked Mustang 5.0 and other hotrods. Adding the Mopar road-racing suspension dropped it so low, my passengers had to get out to go over speed bumps. Otoh, it handled awesome.

2004 LGT turbo 5 speed? That is truly a rare car. It may be the most unicorn of all unicorns.

The 2005 Legacy was released in 2004, therefore you could get one in 2004 (as a 2005 model).

Mine was 2004-built and sold.

I had an '89 5 spd with a bunch of SHO Shop goodies bolted on. Fun car. I loved surprising 5.0 stangs and IROC Z's. that Yamaha 3.0 was something else.

I wanted one of the early cars but couldn't find the right one. Bought a 93 and like you wreaked havoc on fairly stock 5.0 stangs. Oh the joy!

My old ride.

Only a few z26 had the quad4/5 speed. Most of them were 3.1 V6 auto. GM made a 3.1 turbo Grand Priz in the early 90's.

Some of he other cars on my list would be any of the german peformance sedan- Audi S, BMW M, Mercedes AMG. CTSV would need to be included as well.

The 90's GM supercharged 3800's (ie Pontiac GTP). Some those made their way into grandma model Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Buicks.

The Outback XT and Legacy Gt wagon (and mentioned FXT) are good sleepers as well.

I wouldn't get all that excited by being included in that list. I am pretty sure a dodge caravan turbo didn't run deep into the 12's with just upping the boost. I think the fact checking was a little lacking in the article.

My friend who street race regularly got beat in his bolt on 5.0 Mustang by a early SHO with N2O. That was quite the surprise since he was running high 13's. (He also got smoked by a Syclone and Dodge Shelby GLHS in other surprise races).

I am not saying that a Turbo Caravan isn't a sleeper or can't run 12's. I was just commenting on that its take more than just upping the boost to run deep into the 12's. it's kind of like when a Grand National owner tries to tell me his car ran 12's 100% stock or 11's with a chip, some you need to pull out the BS flag.

You clearly have no idea what "sleeper" means.

I thought the z26 was the quad 4. I knew a guy that had a z26 that said it was faster then my legacy

Stock? Not even close; he's crazy.

Correct, but the 2.3 was detuned after '92. The ones in the Z26s only made 170hp IIRC.

They forgot to mention

2006 Mercedes E55 AMG Wagon! My best friend owns one and the thing is untouchable on the freeway and smokes almost anything off the line. Car and driver tested this thing 0-60 in 4.1 secs!!!!!

Most people have NO IDEA what it is :-)

^^^ IDK "Back in the day" means 2006. Kids.

Sleeper - http://www.stationwagon.com/gallery/1991_Chevy_Caprice.html

Wish I were a kid and will take it as a compliment.

Back in the day means the test was done 5+ years ago and I did not want someone to mention that the latest version of the wagon does 0-60 in 3.2 secs.... that's all....

Caprice is nice but it is huge. I really was into GM cars now really back in the day 20+ years ago. Getting a B-Body car less than 5.0 secs will take bunch of work and it probably won't turn or stop even if it gets to 60 that fast. In 1994 when Impala SS came out it was a big deal but it was completely over taken by another European the following year.... 1995 Volvo T-5R...... Volvo also kept making great sleepers until 2007.

Now who would ever think a Volvo would go fast :D.

I still think this was the greatest sleeper:

Second would be Lancia Thema 8.32

You need to see the AMG wagon the doctor rides in at F1 races. That's a sleeper.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

^ FWD though. Gotta admit that the X-11 was a pretty bad ass looking car ... for it's day anyway. I crushed on a girl in HS that had one. Never did get that ride though.
