I think at that time my other car was a 98 LGT sedan with a high compression 2.5 that was totally beat to piss. But it didn't have a hitch.... Probably for the better.

I'm pretty much done with the ej25, I think for the wagon I'm going to build a high compression 2.2 with delta 2000 cams. Should be able to get around 150hp, maybe more out of it. So it won't be too much slower than a 2.5, and I'll be able to redline the stupid thing all day at rallyx, etc and it won't care. That's probably why the 2.5 died...

Are you saying my GL or the outback is nice? Because I only paid like $600 for those. The 98 LGT was actually a nice car, but I only paid $400 for that because the engine was cooked.

The nice thing about the wagon is that it's such a pile I just don't care... But it's nice enough to be a fairly comfortable car. I've replaced all the brakes, wheel bearings, balljoints etc so it rides and drives decent. And I swapped full heated leather interior into it. But when it comes right down to it, it's a rusty junkpile I paid $600 for. There are an endless supply of those in Maine.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I took a picture of sad outback.

It's rained some, so there's less snow in that pic than there has been.

I did, however, take it out and drift it around some back roads for shits and giggles. The rod knock is mad agry and it's not insured, registered, or inspected. So I kinda stayed close to home...

Too many herrafrushed outbacks on here, let's see some more of the (ab)used ones!

If it's not screaming for it's rear springs or going sideways in mud, you're not trying hard enough.

Examples of how to abuse an outback:

Use it to haul around motors, what you can't see is that there's an ej25 shortblock infront of that one.

I'm the green version of you lol. I helped a friend pick up an EG33 and we through it in the back of my OBW, I can't seem to find the picture, but it too had it's timing cover broken.

Here's mine in the dirt, have yet to find any mud :/

I have yet to buy another one lol. That's all the same bumper. Though it's not the car's original bumper. I don't know much of the car's history before my ownership other than what I've found out on my own by taking the car apart.

1. Front passenger door and door wiring harness is off of a white 2000-2001 Outback

2. Drivers door card is from 2003-2004

3. Passenger fender has been off the car at some point.

4. Windshield was replaced, but not with one that has the wiper heaters like mine should. And they took the switch out for said wiper heater.

5. Steering wheel was taken off prior to me taking it off for the WRX Momo because the paint marks didn't line up and it was too easy to take the nut off.

To make my Franken-back make less sense, I put in:

-The center console trim in from a 2000 Outback so I could have the cup holder by the radio

-Engine cover from an 05 LGT

-Momo steering wheel from an 04 WRX

Nice motion blur. The photogs at C&D would approve.

That's a nice upgrade for 02-04. . .and the 00-01 guys grab 02-04 consoles and you get 3 cupholders. Well, 2 decent ones (console), the one by the radio is only for cell phones/mp3 players. Putting anything other than a 12oz can in that one is only for the truly brave or those who never pull more than .01 G in a corner.

Not an outback but falls squarely in the abuse category. . .and I can't watch it without giggling every. . . .single . ... time :-D

So true, I laugh a bit every time I watch it too. The horn is too funny :lol:

Uhhh.... Ok?

So next weekend is Newengland Forest Rally. Big rally america event. I'm service crew for a team, so I have my outback all loaded up and ready to go. Did some finishing stuff to the car yesterday and we're pretty much ready to hit the dirt. Here's service crew outback.

Who were you crew for? I was at NEFR too, I didn't get many service station pictures, but we did almost get creamed by a couple Canadians lol.

Friday we were right next to Ken Block's service, so you might have accidentally snapped a shot of us.

I'm service crew for Slow is Fast racing. It's a new team, that was our first event. We learned a lot. Both the driver and myself running service. We should be back with more force this year. My $25 60 year old generator should be in better operating condition, and I'm not gonna have to rebuild my geriatric air compressor again. Also my outback won't have serious horrible rod knock.... Yes, I was thinking how embarrassing it would be if the service car went home on the trailer behind the truck, and the rally car drove.

Year before, I was helping work the ham radio relay station in the middle of Icicle brook.

Stop by SiF service area this summer and say hi! (you'll recognize the ugly purple outback, fondly named eggplant).

but we did almost get creamed by a couple Canadians lol.

Yea, you gotta watch the hell out setting up the stages during recce...
