godwhomismike Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 I'm looking for more of a luxury sports car, something in the $30K range. And for some reason, the Scion Tc caught my eye. Why??? It's front drive, it's a Scion, and it doesn't have a lot of hp. I evaluated the car to put it in perspective. The car is what happens when you have designers who look at every last detail under a microscope - something that doesn't look like it was slapped together half fast. The interior is the best I've seen on a sub-20K car hands down (Note: I consider the Mini to be above $20K). The body is just ok - but it's a coupe, which gives it extra points. Ok options - there are many, which I like. What stands out to me the most is the supercharger, CAI, and the sports exhuast. Basically, you get to do the stuff you would have done anyways - and get a factory warranty on it. I think the only thing they don't have as an option is an ECU reflash ;). Ok moving along to non-performance options - 160 watt sound system with optional subs, many wheel options (17, 18 and 19"), LED interior lighting, dual sunroof, leather, metal pedals, etc etc etc. All in all, I'm guessing after the supercharger, CAI, and the exhaust, it should give about 200-210+ hp. Not too bad for what will be just nudging the $20K mark. Opinions? - Mike
Th3Franz Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 I think I saw a commercial for it before and it looked interesting. Should be popular with the younger tuner people.. For some reason it might lure a lot of Honda Civic owners. :P -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
Dr. Zevil Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=8288 Cuase it's a great car for the money.
coolbluelb Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Looks like an S40 in pictures. With the optional dealer-installed supercharger, it will push out similar HP to the S40. All for much less money. If I was 16 again, this would be the car for me.
IwannaSportSedan Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 What it has: Options for the cash, such as that huge moonroof. Decent looks, I agree, very volvo-ish. probably reliability on it's side a 3000+lb curb weight. A bit on the bloated side. the same RE92 Bridgestones that get derision on the Legacy GT. It is an attractive package, and for someone just to drive, and who wants to be comfortable with the looks of their ride, it is a contender. I'd pick up one before driving a Civic Si, or a Focus. I'd rather have a Mini Cooper S, than a tC, though.
hkboy1019 Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 wouldn't you rather get a honda civic? the new civic looks pretty nice....but civic's interior still sucks a lot.
il collaudatore Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hehe... I'm with you- the Scion tC looks interesting. But I still think that the Mini Cooper S is better- it's a fun car. But the reliability of the Scion makes it a serious contender.
crapy Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 Mazda 3 is another nice choice too! but i agree mini S will be the best choice at that range.
