Zundapp57
Have a code for knock sensor comes up on obd2 check, problem is can't get bolt to come out of block, I know it will snap off if anymore torque is put on it. tried areokroil still wont budge. noticed thread boss in block under throttle body. Can it be bolted on there instead?
pleaidestar
I think that's where its supposed to go, is the thread boss just to the left side of the throttlebody if your looking at it from the driverside of the vehicle?

pleaidestar
You could try it, the knock sensor is essentially a weight that picks up abnormal vibration...if you didn't know that already..just torque it to 14 lbs which I believe is manufacturers specs. monkeyposeur
Have you tried tightening it a little bit, then backing it off? I know others have relocated it with good results supposedly. Here is a thread with the same problem as yours: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/over-torqued-knock-sensor-bolt-181922p2.html
DOHCEJ22E1
I relocated mine to the top of the area that mates to the transmission. It will still pick up knock & fits perfectly in that one spot. As long as its on the block itself, you can put it anywhere it has space to go.
spooln30
The knock sensor is held by only that one 10mm bolt through the center of the knock sensor. I've never had one so suck it broke, Subaru uses high graded bolts so just loosen it. I found that using a 1/4 size, 10mm swivel socket with a long extension. I actually have sets individual Matco swivel sockets for each size that work far better then a socket and the swivel. They hold their bend without flopping all over the place but if you don't have these sockets then the later would be the next best option.
johnegg
The knock sensor is held by only that one 10mm bolt through the center of the knock sensor. I've never had one so suck it broke, ditto!! what have you got to lose. if you bust the bolt you relocate the sensor. and you are replacing the sensor any way. remove the bolt or bust it trying. Zundapp57
thanks for the info, had some body mounting bolts snap off(were easy to drill out and retap). weren't too sure of metric grade on the engine.this is a great forum, thanks to all you folks that contribute information. pleaidestar
The bolts are grade 5 equivalent but are coated with an electrically charged galvanic coating to prevent galvanic corrosion between aluminium and mild steel. The grade prevents over torque because if you do over torque the bolt it will break the piezo on the sensor..remember 14 lbs.
