Rudeboy47
So it's been 2 weeks 1/2 since I got my first subaru ever. It's a 1999 legacy gt w 1456** miles and its time for tune up time. Now I got a few questions I would like to ask. Any advice would be most appreciated! Any who, I'm wondering if you can use msd coil pack with platinum spark plugs? If so, does it make any difference to use platinum plugs or non? (Using ngk wires) I'm going to do the seafoam method and I read up on it and I want to know if any of you suggest I put it in the oil as well ? How much cans of this stuff do I need To do a complete seafoam procedure ? When it comes to changing gear oil in the trans. How would I fill it? From where the shifter sits in place? On the side of the transmission?
Zues Marine
the MSD coilpack requires modification of the engine wiring harness to be compatible with your car...but it's much less intimidating than it sounds with one can of Seafoam: -measure out approximately 1/3 of the can into 3 separate water bottles, -pour one of them into the gas tank with at least ~1/2 tank left in there -pour another into the oil crankcase via the oil neck -and with the final 1/3, remove the hose from the PCV valve next to your coilpack, and with the car running, slowly. SLOWLY.... let the vacuum suck the fluid from the bottle while manually increasing throttle, this part literally took about 15 minutes for me... if you go too fast you will hydrolock your engine and **** shit up.. the best time to do this is the tank before an oil change/tune-up... the debris that the seafoam breaks apart fouls your spark plugs and oil filter the fill spot for the manual transmission is above the RHD axle, i think its the other side for auto transmissions
Rudeboy47
So I can use platinum plugs w msd? And you said "the best time to do this is the tank before an oil change/tune-up." Did you mean to put seafoam first in the tank first? Thanks Zeus !
Zues Marine
yes and yeah, put the seafoam in, go through the rest of the seafoamed gas and before you fill up again, change oil, filters, plugs
Hemingway
Use NGK plugs as well (if it hasn't already been said by Zeus-ter). Other brands can cause headaches. Go to the NGK website and look up your car. Don't rely on the plugs currently in your engine.
Rudeboy47
I also have another question, what engine oil do you guys recommend I use? Fully synthetic or regular and what weight?
DOHCEJ22E1
Regular to semi-synthetic is fine. I use Rotella t6 15w-30. Haven't had any issues.
pleaidestar
Full synthetics are the best imo, a lot of people use the shell rotella t5 or t6...I'm using t5 as of 2k miles ago, next time I will use t6 because the climate I live in is soon to be 100° and up. I used Mobil 1 in all my previous cars but for some reason I hear a lot more engine chatter with it in my subaru and it is a bit pricey as he rotella t5and t6 are about twenty dollars cheaper by the gallon. As far as filters go I always used fram for my hondas but the wix filters are the best because the filter media is a synthetic and fram uses a paper like filter. Rudeboy47
Got another question! The check engine light came on and was giving me a p0400 code which directs me toward the egr, now I've been reading up on the forums that it may be due to a blocked line the egr in my car is new and I replaces all the vacuum Lines and even found moisture in one of the lines and blew out one of the hard lines that goes to some solenoid valve that goes bolted the manifold underneath the throttle body. Now my question is how do I check if that solenoid valve is good? I saw here that you connect these green connectors but where are these connectors located?
