urdrwho
My new to me 97 Outback Limited is in the driveway awaiting a title exchange. I have a bit of rust around one of the wheel arches that I originally saw. On a more in depth examination I now see that the area I will be working is not paint, it is a wide pinstripe. I guess the pinstripe can be viewed as a good thing or a bad thing. A good thing, to those that are good at applying pinstripe a bad thing to those that are not as adept at applying a straight or curved pinstripe. An even more obscure consideration is where the heck do you buy these pinstripes? This car has multiple pinstripes, some needs to be repaired and I have no idea where to find the striping for a 97 Outback Limited. I still have some leather work, not much but just a bit of dying. Enclosed are pics of leather seat repair I did to my Jaguar back in 2001. Hope somebody has info on the pinstripes.
pleaidestar
Dealership will have pinstripe mock ups if they are original. You can go to any paint and body supply and they can show you a whole array of colors styles and widths, you can do what you want with pinstripes. If you are going to remove them and start over which is probably the best idea you can buy what is called a magic eraser that goes on a drill or die grinder with an 1/8th or 1/4 inch arbor. That will take off the stripes with out damage to your paint. As for the rust you will need to take everything away from the area to see which panels are affected and how badly rusted it is, that area is very common for rust, just in the past couple of weeks there has been a few threads about it...use the search key. urdrwho
Thanks. I'll check out the dealer. Rust I can handle. Owning 5 cars 4 of which are in the 1990's means I fight rust. The 95 Caddie is an amazingly 99.9% rust free car and that is a commute car, running in the snow and salt. Dealership will have pinstripe mock ups if they are original.
