spc2125
Yes, I know I can go post on the impreza forums or nasioc but I thought I would check here first because Im more familiar with this site. Looking for input on the impreza owners out there. If somebody is looking for a newer Impreza, would the best route to buy brand new (or practically brand new)? Ive been doing some searching and its killing me that Subaru's keep their value really well. Dealerships have a brand new Impreza (not sure the package or anything) for just over $17k. But then they have a two year old Impreza with about 35k miles for $15k.... And then you go back further and there are 08 Imprezas with 100k miles that are going for over 10k. It seems that buying closest to new is the best bang for the buck. I had only searched for a couple hours on the pricing for them, but that is the idea that I had come up with. Then you get into the warranty aspect of it. Certified pre-owned and what not. What would be the ideal affordable coverage for these cars? Would most likely want to purchase through a Stealership for peace of mind given what I have experienced first hand after buying from private sale. But I digress, what are people's opinions on this? Thanks in advance!

Drift Motion
then why not save a bit more and get the new one... It doesn't make sense to save 2k to get a car with 35k miles on it...

Right that is what i was saying. I was seeing if everybody else saw what i saw. Or saw anything different.
RabidWombat
Buy new. CPO Impreza's sell for almost the same price as used. Also, if you look at the details of the Subaru CPO warranty, the coverage is very minimal. If you're financing new may actually be cheaper than used, since you get different interest rates for new vs used. We went new with no extended warranty when we bought ours new. Extended warranty isn't worth very much if you're buying a reliable car and keep up maintenance. I did get the pre-paid service for my LGT since they cut a nice discount on it and the GT requires more maintenance.
spc2125
Thank you for your opinion. That was my thoughts exactly on buying new vs. used. And thanks for giving me insight on it the warranty. I was really curious about that.
JimyJoeBob
To stay within my g/f's budget, she just signed for a 2008 Impreza with 40k miles for 12.8k. Didn't want to finance more than 10k since she will have school loan repayments starting this fall of just over 1k a month most likely. Only financing around 8.5k. Haven't finalized financing yet. She is getting quotes before talking to the finance dept at the dealership to get the best rate she can.

JimyJoeBob
Bachelors in Behavioral Neuroscience from Northeastern. Also finishing up her Master's next month. Started as a Bio major then decided to minor in psych or something like that and changed her major to behavioral neuroscience and will be a mental health clinician of some sort. She hasn't decided what her focus will be. I think she said her loans will total close to 140k. Definitely over 115k. There are some federal programs that will help with paying off student loans if you work for a certain amount of time in certain communities. I forget exactly what she said but if she does it, it could end up paying for half her loans or something. She regrets having that much in loans sometimes and really wishes she was more informed before going off to college. I went to a community college and got my associate's then transferred to a university to get my bachelor's. I luckily only had 25k in loans when all said and done.
