05 intake gasket question

Recommended Posts

hey guys ive got a 05 legacy gt that i need to take off the intake to make sure everything is clean of metal in the intake and ports, however i was just lookingn for the gaskets so i can replace them when I get this one off and ready to go back on, and when i was searching for it i came across two different kinds of gaskets first was a "tumbler to cylinder head gasket" which I believe is not the right one and another "intake manifold to tumbler" i think this is the right one

heres the link first one or sencond under "subaru oem"

Subaru OEM Tumbler to Cylinder Head Gasket

These are the gaskets that sit under the tumbler.

Subaru OEM Intake Manifold to Tumbler Gasket

These are the gaskets that sit on top of the tumblers.

thats what the website says, but i recommend to get O RINGS, thats what i got instead, so idk if u still should get the 2nd gasket, but i dont have it in, just used the OEM o-rings from subaru. like $8

still need to get the 1st gasket to go underneath the tumbler.

" i need to take off the intake to make sure everything is clean of metal in the intake and ports, "

One question, why?

One question, why?

Because according to PO something got into turbo and chewed it up which is very easy to see I need to see if there is any metal in the block I sent the turbo out to get rebuilt

The normal process is to drop the oil pan and look for metal.

Replace the oil cooler, which the oil filter screws on to.

remove the banjo filter prior to the turbo.

If you have metal in the oil pan. your best bet is to rebuld the engine. Some have got lucky, with just flushing the oil system, but the normal is a rebuild.

You should be fine with just getting to o-ring for your intake inspection. THe new o-rings will be bigger then the ones that came in the early years.
