What can I swap?

Recommended Posts

A buddy advised that I can swap the exhaust an Impreza (WRX) just have to have flange rotated. True? I want that boxer to have a voice.

What about wheels? What all will fit from other models? Suggestions?

Interior related, what upgrades can I easily obtain from a pull parts or junk yard? I have a stock L without many bells and whistles.

What about lamps, hood, grille, rack - anything you can think that would be an upgrade?

Thanks! :spin:

What Wrx engine are you talking about? The turbo engine obviously won't work and I don't think the non turbo header would either but there's no benefit on swapping another OEM header anyway. Since you have a 95 L I would assume you only have the 2.2 and its probably the single port cylinder heads meaning there's no aftermarket exhaust header available for your car. If you had the 2.5 dohc there are a few options for a race header that would give you about 15 HP. You could just buy a muffler, like one from Vibrant and have a exhaust shop fab up a cat-back system for around $200-300.

Don't know what interior parts your looking for but any 95-99 Legacy and Outback parts will work and Wrx or STI seat can be fabbed to fit.

Same thing with the exterior parts. The GT Legacys have the better front bumpers and side skirts and rear valance. Just search around for different swaps and see what you like. GL.

IMO any wheel 16" is a safe diameter where it wont look like shit. Grab a GT bumper, or an Outback bumper. Gt rear and side skirts. Could always try and find a grille from an SUS.

And they do make headers for the single ports, they're just custom, and almost more money than they're worth.

Search "single port uel headers" in ebay and you should get something like this...

the 95 lego can use any subaru wheels with 5 x 100 bolt patterns. that's almost all, but not really all, of them 90 - 04. the 95 has the smallest brake set up of all the leagcys so any larger wheel will fit. my personal favorite is the GT spoke alloy wheels. the only draw back is that they are 16" and typically those tires are more expensive than 14s or 15s.

the 95 has dual port exhaust heads, no need to look for a single port exhaust. but it is doubtful a change will dramatically affect your performance.

GT and out back bumpers will swap in but you will need the grille as well. they are a matched set and slightly different than the lego bumper / grill. gt and outback grilles will swap with each other with out the bumper.

i'm glad you are excited about your lego, and a little envious of the deal you found, but i would suggest you drive it for a while and get to know it. you will eventually figure out what it needs and what you want.

happy motoring.

Awesome. I was curious about the port as I read 95 had dual so I don't have the same flow issue (?).

I have to put together a plan for what I want and then of course funds.

What's with the stereo antennae? Is it a manual? An I supposed to pull it out myself lol?

Thanks all

I google but I figured the folks here would be more helpful.

So with the dual port I should be able to source aftermarket?

This sounds lame, but I'm not so interested in performance enhancement with exhaust but rather amping the boxer sound. After a romp in the country yesterday I finally managed to hit a hillside and my gf heard the boxer. I showed her how the setup works to make that sound and she laughed, "how does it work again lol".

So I want to hear my exhaust a little better - nothing ricy just a solid good throaty purr (I can hear it in there!)

I'm gonna look into sourcing trim and bumpers but first things first, tint, wheels - thanks sludgeroo and johnegg - then exhaust.

I have a ton of stuff to sell off my bimmer that will fund some of this.

Will the hood from a GT bolt on? Dumb question eh...

all 95 2.2's have dual port heads, for headers, these are the best bang for your buck, the borlas are super spendy and have a history of cracking, the only negative about the speedyracer ones is the walls of the headers, theyre a bit thinner so you can hear a faint but constant lifter tick, throw some header wrap on there and you wont notice it.

http://www.speedyracer.com/exhaust-parts/headers/1999-2005-SUBARU-IMPREZA-25L-RS-SOHC-HEADER-STAINLESS,

muffler- vibrant performance (1046)

you might want to throw a resonator (18" is what id recommend) on the midpipe somewhere or else you may end up with a bit more raspy-ness than you may like..

if you're going to throw some piping on after the cats, stick with 2.25", anything bigger and you'll start losing back pressure to the motor , which will not only cost you some hp (not a huge deal in these gutless motors) but some MPG as well

any interior parts and exterior stuff from 95-99 legacys and outbacks will bolt right up, from the b pillar forward, then you start getting into the wagon/sedan obvious differences, so that means yes, the GT hoods will work,

bolt patterns are 5x100 so any of the subaru oem wheels will fit on there beside the 04+(?) sti wheels.. or whenever they changed to 5x114.3

that being said, were you to do the incredibly easy wrx 11.4" brake swap, you'd need at least a 16" set of wheels to clear the brakes

another thing to do that would open up the boxer rumble is removing the 'snorkus' in the passenger side fender well, its essentially a big plastic box that acts a a reservoir for quick air access to the intake, and muffles a lot of the sound

a generic 'ebay cold air intake' has been dyno proven to produce more hp than the super expensive ones like aem and such, yet these ones are roughly $50 bucks
